[News] Wonder Girls' show: cash only for the priciest tickets


Super-popular WONDERGIRLS is bringing along their sunbaes & hoobaes to perform in Taiwan next month. Concert tickets went on sale at noon today. In just 50 minutes, the box office surpassed NT$10 million. As well, the priciest NT$5,000 & NT$4,000 tickets were only purchasable on-site, & cash only at that. As a result, many fans carrying $400,000 total cash were queueing up in the scorching sun. There were even people who got their tickets after waiting 40 hours. Who not accept credit card & online booking? The organizer said it was to ease the booking traffic online, & also because the fans are typically students without credit cards. Spot payment was the most convenient for them.

The cash-counting machines were continuously whirling, the staff were busy at work. The fans were anxious yet excited, taking out bundles of banknotes from their possessions. Glimpsing at their thickness, they must be worth tens of thousands NT dollars. But the fans who managed to buy the tickets were elated.

Reporter: "How long have you lined up?" Fan: "Shift system. But we came here 2 days ago, so it has been 2 days & 2 nights." Reporter: "48 hours in total?" Fan: "Yes."

WONDERGILS is coming to Taiwan next month to perform. Mid-priced tickets were obtainable through online booking, but the priciest NT$5,000 & NT$4,000 tickets were only purchasable on-site, & cash only at that.

Concert-organizer spokesperson Chen Yingzhen said: "We want to help ease the ticketing system, in order not to have it crash. We also realize that Taiwan's Kpop fans are mostly youngsters. They usually do not use credit cards."

Such a stipulation left the fans [physically] suffering as they braved the scorching sun, clasping shiny-white banknotes as they lined up. Yet the priciest tickets were in greater demand. The NT$5,000 ticket booth saw a long & snaking queue. By contrast, the NT$4,000 ticket booth saw fewer inquiries. Reporter: "Will you feel anguished?" Fan: "No. The ticket is worth it." Reporter: "Why buy NT$5,000 & not NT$4,000?" Fan: "To get closer to my idols!"

Including online sales, the box office hit NT$10 million in 50 minutes. WONDERGIRLS is utilizing their own super popularity by bringing along their fellow school disciples 2PM & MBLAQ [sic] for their Taiwan stage debuts. Unsurprisingly, the fans are willing to brave the scorching sun, holding onto large amounts of cash, yet needing to fight over the tickets. Unfortunately, such a sales model left them really [physically] suffering.
