[News] The Korea Herald: JYJ sets box office record for South America tour!

Some 5,000 tickets to Korean boy band JYJ’s upcoming tour of South America sold out in less than two days, breaking the record for foreign artists, the group’s agent said Monday.
“We began selling the tickets last Thursday (Jan. 12) for the tour in South America and the seats were sold out in two days,” C-JeS Entertainment said in a press release.
It was reported that some fans camped overnight to buy VIP tickets for seats closer to the stage.
Peru’s El Comerico news published an article stating, “It’s not Justin Bieber nor Miley Cyrus, but Korean group JYJ who has set the record for ticket sales.”
JYJ will start off their South American tour on March 9 at the Teatro Caupolican in Chile, Santiago, followed by a performance at the Explanada Sur del Estadio Monumental in Peru, Lima on March 11.
JYJ was formed by three former members of another popular boy band, TVXQ. They broke off from the group and started a separate singing career in October 2010. The group’s name is taken from the first letters of the members’ names ― Jae-joong, Yoo-chun and Jun-su.
JYJ has been earning fame overseas after the release of their debut Japanese album “The …” which reached No. 1 on the Japanese Oricon albums chart. The band’s global debut album, “The Beginning,” has also been widely recognized throughout Asia, America and Europe.
The trio had performed in Europe with shows in Spain and Germany in October and November, last year, respectively, which attracted several thousand fans to each performance.
The group said they planned the South American tour after seeing fans traveling long distance to attend concerts in cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and even those in Europe to see them.
“We are happy that we can keep our promise to our fans, and we will prepare a perfect performance to match the passion of South America,” group member Yoo-chun said at a recent press conference.
