[Singapore's My Paper] Idol singers compete to seize the television industry. Marvellous medicine*? Poison?
(*T/N: It also means a good way to solve problems.)

Korean idol singers are competing to seize television dramas. JYJ’s Park Yoochun, ZE.A’s Lee Si Wan, Girls’ Generation’s Yoona and Yuri are appearing in the dramas that are showing now. There is a substantial amount of idol singers who will be appearing in upcoming television dramas. These idol singers include MBLAQ’s G.O, Girls’ Generation’s Soo Young, who will both be entering the television drama industry for the first time. G.O will be acting in ‘Phantom’ while Soo Young is staring in ‘The Third Hospital’. Miss A’s Suzy will take on the leading role in ‘Big’. It will be her second time taking on a leading role.
According to the analysis of Korean entertainment, it is a win-win situation for drama production crews who look for idol singers as singers can increase popularity, name recognition and the number of fans. Thanks to the singers, the production crews can save on advertising costs and the actors’ salaries. Unlike an actor’s salary, class does not determine a singer’s salary so it is more economical.
Even so, as there is a difference in competency, when singers enter the television industry, they have to face acting criticisms and shoulder the burden of viewer ratings.

Park Yoochun is good in singing. In acting, he has viewer rating guarantee and award affirmation.
2010’s ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ transformed Park Yoochun into an actor and he was awarded the KBS acting award, the 47th “Baeksang Arts Award” (“Baeksang” for short)’s “Best New Actor” and popularity award.
‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’’s director Kim Hyun Wook gave a very positive remark on Park Yoochun who was a newcomer at that time. He said, “He has an impressive appearance, voice, poise and attitude.
