[News] 2NE1's NOLZA Album Lands at #1 on Oricon's NINKI Ranking Chart

2NE1's Nolza Album lands at #1, by a 20 point lead, on the Oricon NINKI chart. The girls are debuting alongside popular j-rock and j-pop artists so this is pretty wonderful. It looks like the pre-debut hype by YGEX is really starting to pay off. The full list:

As we discussed way back in February in our J-pop 101: The Charts series, "NINKI ratings are an Oricon-made weekly poll which indicate the public interest in upcoming releases. NINKI (real name is "期待度", that actually means "Expectation Grade") is a top 10 list that as the real title says, shows the expectation grade for the releases of the determinated week." The chart is constructed with a random selection of 400 Oricon Subscribers [the number may have increased to about 600/700] that are given a survey to complete. The participants respond with their “degree of interest”, “degree of purchase intention”, etc and then have the results tallied and indexed to generate the chart. Participants are 50 males and 50 females in each age group from 10’s to 40’s (ie: 50 male and 50 female aged 10-19; 50 male and 50 female aged 20-29, etc).

T/N: Please note that this is just a prediction and therefore doesn’t mean 2NE1 will be 1st but it’s a great indication of how popular 2NE1 are in Japan and how interested the Japanese public are. Keep in mind that chart positioning and total sales won’t be determined until next week when it’s all calculated by Oricon.
