All six members of EXO-K have siblings and all of them are the youngest in the family.
Suho has a brother 4 yrs older.
D.O. has a brother who is 3 years older.
Baekhyun has a brother who is 7 years older.
Chanyeol has a sister 3 years older.
Kai has 2 sisters, one who is older than him by 9 years and the other by 5 years.
Sehun has a brother 3 years older.

Suho:
"When I was a student I studied so hard. I was a class leader at elementary school dan became a representative at junior high school. When I joined to SM, I become the leader again, does it because I have a face like student?"

Kai:
"The most good looking member is our maknae. He is such a cute little brother and we've been training together for 4 years."
"There was this moment when I looked closely and realised how handsome he was, I got a shock."
"The first time I came to the company Suho came to see me, and he left a really deep impression because he was really good looking too."
"We would show everyone a better image in the next album.."
"Sometimes there would be fans who are older than me ask if they can call me oppa, around an age gap of 5 years old, and I would agree."
"I have a pretty wide age gap with my sister and in the company we address by noona, oppa too, so I don't feel that an age gap makes a difference."
"During training Baekhyun did perform for us to see and he was really good. He seemed like someone who would gain a lot of popularity. If the mood maker doesn't create good atmosphers, what is he supposed to do?"

Sehun:
"Kai praised me, thank you. Kai is really manly and when he answers honestly he is really dashing. Also D.O. has the sincere man look."
"He (D.O) looks really kind and has perfect features. The mischievous ones, Chanyeol and Baekhyun have the same charms."
"Baekyhun has the best after got makeup."

D.O.:
"In my primary school graduation book I wrote a game as my talent. Thinking back, I don't even know what it means, maybe it was a lingo that everyone spoke then."
"I never want to watch that interview where I stumbled. /During rehearsals he said it well but when it went live he messed up./"

On Feb. 3, a photograph was uploaded on JYJ’s Facebook page. Although Kim Jaejoong, Kim Junsu and Park Yoochun were all looking at different places, it looked like they were more comfortable with each other than at any other time. Each of them wishes that they will all recognise each other’s abilities and support each other’s activities. They worry about improving the synergy among themselves and they believe that a stronger friendship will be built if they were to experience a difficult time together. In an industry that is still hard for people to survive, we can feel JYJ’s simple freedom, happiness and uneasiness. Lastly, we listened to a gospel by “Mr Positive Kim”.
10. What is the synergy you get from being a singer and doing musical activities?
Kim Junsu: My thoughts on singing have slightly changed. “Fallen Leaves” was produced right after the conclusion of “Mozart”, so the musical had a lot of influence the song. Before acting in musicals, I felt like like a weak bird that could not do anything. However, thanks to those who still come and support me, I have gained confidence even in concerts. I was particularly shocked by the system of musical rehearsals, but I think it may be integrated into JYJ’s concerts.
“If I were alone, I would have given up.”

10. I did not expect you to take about the system of musical rehearsals.
Kim Junsu: Of course, we did rehearse before, but we only took around five days to rehearse for the concerts in South Korea. Actually, it will take approximately a month if we keep messing up. However, five days was enough for us since all of us have good concentration. (Laughs) However, rehearsals for concerts in Japan will really take a month, as we need to do everything one thing at a time like the fixing of the concert hall and the lighting. The music industry in South Korea is not like that. There will be such rehearsals in the musical industry. As compared to the music industry, the musical industry is way smaller than that. So, I was surprised by the kind of rehearsal system in the industry. Musical is a genre surely requires such a rehearsal system.
10. As compared to other groups, do JYJ’s concerts tend to require such rehearsals?
Kim Junsu: Even though we have gone through such rehearsals before, all of us place great importance on preparations. We made decisions one by one starting from music and costumes to the stage concept.
10. There is clearly freedom as you are able to make decisions by yourself. However, since your work is tough, do you feel uneasy about it?
Kim Junsu: Of course, it is hard. In the past, I would just have to go ahead and do since everything had been arranged. However, the amount of pleasure that I will obtain will be several times more if I were to prepare the concert myself, as I will feel that it is my concert. If I were alone, I would have given up. As the members are with me and they become my support so I trust their abilites and is able to come this far. Because of them, I felt like it was possible.
10. Since you mentioned that all of you have trust in each other’s abilites, what is are you best at?
Kim Junsu: Nothing. (Laughs) Well… If I have to say something, it will be dance songs? As I am the member who dances the most, so I am probably the best in dance songs. The director of the JYJ concert was Jaejoongie-hyung and he was so involved that I was surprised that he has so many talents. I felt a sense of pride seeing his earnest approach. Also, Yoochun has a good song-writing sense. Previously, I asked him to help me in making a rap. He finished it in five minutes, which was really great. So, I said, “He is one of my member. A cool dude.” However, maybe we are just being very proud of ourselves. (Explosive laughter)
10. You have started acting in musicals. It feels like you wanted to act after seeing the other members do so.
Kim Junsu: Even though I want act in the small screen, I need to gain more experiences so I cannot do so yet. I want to try acting in dramas too. I have such thoughts, but they are difficult to do. So, I think that musical is the coolest. You can sing, act and dance in musicals. As musical is just musical, I want to live by challenging myself to several other things.
“No matter which job that you do, you will lose something if you gain something.”

10. Then, excluding work, what do you want to challenge yourself to?
Kim Junsu: There are many things. I want to make a World Cup for celebrities around the world. Ahhahahahaha. Wouldn’t it be good? It will unite all the celebrities. (Laughs) That is one thing. I want to study more in the future. If I develop an eye for musicals, I want to try making and producing musicals and producing singers.
10. This year is the ninth year since your debut and you have gained a lot during this time. How do you overcome the times when you felt helpless?
Kim Junsu: It depends on the way you think. As I am a celebrity, it is burdensome whenever I want to go to somewhere comfortably. I cannot date and I have to do it in secret if I want to. I had many regrets. I started because I like singing. When I was young, I only want to sing and I would not even think about the problems of being a celebrity. I became more comfortable after realizing that celebrities are not the only people who face problems and ordinary people do so too.
10. In what way do you think that we are all the same?
Kim Junsu: I gained a lot after becoming a singer. In the past, I felt that it was natural for me to gain things and I was pessimistic about the things that I had lost. However, it is the same for everyone. Someone will gain something from what I have lost and someone will not be able to get what I have gained. So, no matter which job that we do, we will lose something if we gain something. There will be times when you say what you do not want to say. Reporters also have times when they have to talk about something, which they do not want to. They also have times when they feel sorry. However, there is nothing they can do since they are reporters. Hahaha. That is what it is. In the end, it is the same restrain. So, we have to be thankful for things that we get and also things that we lost. It helps me become more at ease. I am not the only one who is lonely.
10. I feel that I am listening to a gospel by ‘Mr Positive Kim’. (Laughs)
Kim Junsu: Since I have experienced so much, I come to not care about unimportant things. Ahhahahaha. Yoochun and I are so affirmative that we say, “Well, let’s not care about it.” Just like that. Rather, it is Jaejoongie-hyung alone who is all troubled. Hahaha.

In 2012, Kim Junsu’s new musical is “Elisabeth” that is loved the most in Austria for 20 years. In this musical that tells the life story of Empress Elisabeth who, just like Mozart, always dreamt of freedom; he will play the fantasy character ‘Death’ (hereafter Tod) along with Ryu Junghan and Song Changui. Compared to a genius composer and a pure young man (‘Tears of Heaven’), a character of ‘non-existent being’ will require more imagination. As a musical actor, from now on, he has a lot of technical homework to solve. However, Kim Junsu said, “No matter what musical it is, I want the audience know that I do it because I love musical.”
10. Even the best skills can’t catch up with the sincerity. In the future, you might be compared to when you did ‘Mozart!’ whenever you do musical. Don’t you feel pressure?
Kim Junsu: I indeed like that. Because I did ‘Mozart!’, I’m able to do ‘Elisabeth’. I finally did it even in difficult situation and I didn’t give up on musical despite other activities. Therefore, I’m worried about whether I can successfully play this role but I don’t feel pressure about being compared.
“Compared to Ryu Junghan and Song Changui, I’ll become a dynamic Tod”
 10. I heard that Tod’s appearance would be very flashy.
Kim Junsu: I’ll appear when six actors who plays the characters called ‘angels of death’ create an aura of death. Since it’s a transcendental character, there will be a lot of lights, wires and bridges involved. I almost won’t ever step on the 1st floor of the stage.
10. Since you have often held large-scale concerts, you must be more familiar to hanging on wires than other actors.
Kim Junsu: Some days ago, I tried hanging on wires but it was very high. (Silence for 3 seconds) I’ll just have to be confident. (Everyone burst out laughing) Luckily, I don’t have acrophobia and I got used to it because I have frequently been on it. However, it’s still scary. I think it’s the same with (Park) Euntae-hyung. (Laugh)
10. Even though it’s just a short appearance, you will play a character that has many implications. In term of experience and acting, there is a big difference between you and Ryu Junghan and Song Changui. How did you create ‘XiahTod’?
Kim Junsu: If I have to explain (how I created ‘XiahTod’), it was like adding a little bit of sweetness to the image of Hyde (of Jekyll and Hyde)? I haven’t play that kind of role before so it’s hard for people to get the feel what I’ll be like. And because there isn’t an exact answer for what a transcendental character will be like, I think I can play the character more freely. Perhaps, my Tod will have more dance moves than other actors. We are Death, three of us will all show different feelings. Therefore, they said that we wouldn’t need to have the same hairstyle or wear the same costumes.
10. Basically, Tod always fascinates Sissi so that character needs to have a ‘homme fatale’ feeling. (Laugh)
Kim Junsu: I’m studying him in my own way. I also lost a lot of weights. (Laugh) My manager jumped up and down, worrying that I might get hurt but I play soccer often. It has helped me to lose weight, made my skin healthier and increased my physical strength. I also think somehow the choreography will a strong point of my character.
10. Since the public acknowledges you as a good singer, it’s quite not easy to me to understand why you said that choreography would be your strong point.
Kim Junsu: Since I was young, I have liked both singing and dance. Even when I was trainee, some friends who were better than me at singing but I think I was the best at dancing. (Laugh) When I was in SM, every time some visitors came from Japan, they made some of the trainees good at singing and dancing perform for them and I did both. I could imitate the dancing after 2 or 3 times watching it on television. I still like to dance. I also miss the stage where I can dance.
10. Then how did you start singing?
Kim Junsu: My mother was very good at singing. I was much influenced from her. At the beginning, instead of thinking that I was good at singing, I wondered why other kids couldn’t sing. (Laugh) Since elementary school, when we sang national anthem, while other friends sang like singing a children’s song, I even sang it with a lot of vibrations. So many of them asked why I sang like an old man. (Laugh) I felt that it was very cool but I don’t know since when I used vibration.
“To diversify the roles, I thought about taking musical lessons”

10. But in musicals, there are a lot of cases where that vibration becomes harmful. It’s not easy to set a balance between pop music and musical.
Kim Junsu: In musicals, because the lyrics are also the lines, the diction is extremely important. But in pop music, if you sing precisely the lyrics, it indeed makes the song unfashionable. So enhancing your pronunciation becomes important. Therefore, I think these two genres are different from the start. In addition, in pop music, you use a lot of bending, pushing up the notes but it’s not the case in musical. The singing methods are also different.
10. Starting musical career, have you ever received separate vocal lessons?
Kim Junsu: I have practiced with the musical director but have never received separate vocal lessons. But somehow, I still can’t get aside the distinct way a singer sings and it caused a limitation in the roles I can play. Nowadays, I have been thinking of taking musical lessons. Not doing something and not being able to do something are two different things.
10. I asked you about vocal lessons because your low notes that I felt to be your weak point in ‘Mozart!’ and ‘Tears of heaven’ have improved a lot.
Kim Junsu: Actually, the low notes in “Elisabeth” are lower than the ones in my previous musicals. In term of voice range, it’s evidently hard because I had always been strong with the high notes. However, I have been thinking of many things these days. There is surely different point between the feelings as a singer and the feelings as a musical actor. And I’m in the process of getting to know about those.
10. I think that musical has become something that you don’t want let go of. Your strong point is that you express your emotions through songs. Will you continue to go forward with this strong point or take a new challenge?
Kim Junsu: Because each musical is attractive in its own way, I want to try feeling all of them. (Laugh) I still prefer the sad endings that leave lingering emotion in audience. All the musicals I have done till now were also a bit like that. What I really have confidence in is something funny like ‘Guys and Dolls’. (Laugh) I think that’s why I want to challenge myself with sad endings. However, there are things that you want to do but aren’t suited for. There are also things that you can do but don’t want to. For now, rather than wondering whether I should bring out my strong point or take a new challenge, I want to act in the way that the audience will knows that I’m doing musicals because I really love it.
10. It seems that in difficult situation, JYJ’s members have found the best ways for you.
Kim Junsu: It’s very tough. While other people have 10 weapons, we’re in the situation that we can only chose from 2 or 3. Maybe that’s why we try more desperately whenever we get one. That’s also what gives me more strength.

Boy band JYJ performs at the group's first concert titled "JYJ Concert in Seoul" at the Main Stadium of the Olympic Park in Jamsil of Seoul, South Korea on November 27, 2010. [Chae Ki-won/10Asia]
"Getting struck by wind is said to happen only to those who are flying. I believe that the many winds that we are being struck with are blessings in disguise, meaning that we will fly high up." That is what JYJ member Junsu during their two-day concert titled "JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul" held on November 27 and 28 at the Main Olympic Stadium in Jamsil. And the 'wind' he spoke of did not refer to the hail and strong wind that took down the large tent that was installed over the roof of the stadium ahead of the first day of the concert. Former TVXQ members Jaejung, Yuchun and Junsu left the band after filing a lawsuit against SM Entertainment last summer asking their exclusive contract with the agency to be nullified after which SM filed for injunction on the three's release of their worldwide album "The Beginning" in October although they later withdrew it. While the lawsuit regarding the contract with SM is ongoing, TVXQ's two remaining members U-know Yunho and Max Changmin are set to resume their singing careers next year under the name of TVXQ.

Despite all the ups and downs they have been through, JYJ delayed the starting time of 7 p.m. for their concert on November 27 by an hour since they had to take down the tent and the 35,000 local and international fans had to endure the below-zero temperature. However, the stage was enough to show off the elaborate dance moves and singing skills of the JYJ members whose performances were of tracks from their album "The Beginning" which features works from world-renowned musicians such as Kanye West who composed "Ayyy girl," Rodney Jenkins who produced "Empty," as well as unreleased songs "9," "Fallen Leaves" and "Mission Make It." Each member gave solo performances as well, with Yuchun taking the stage to give his rendition of "Drunken Truth" by duo Exhibition, Junsu performing with a string orchestra for "I Can Soar" and Jaejung singing "To You Its Goodbye" from the soundtrack to KBS' drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal." The dance performance, which was directed by Jeri Slaughter who has worked with top global artists Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, left a deep impression with its extravagant lights and dynamics moves which was reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil's shows. They also successfully delivered a relatively clear and rich sound even though they were limited in terms of location with the concert being held in a stadium -- faults were pointed out regarding the sound during their showcase held at Korea University's Hwaseong Tiger Dome last month. However, it could not be helped that there was a limit to them conveying the emotions felt in the songs from their album "The Beginning" which is in English and it was inevitable that their new songs, unveiled for the first time at the concert, created an awkward atmosphere.

But of course these inconveniences came about also because JYJ is a team that is just 'beginning.' The lyrics to their new song "Pierrot" which say, "I have my own thoughts and my own life. I don't want to remember those times which seemed like prison. Forever bye bye bye," seemed to be directed towards their previous agency as well as saying goodbye to their past as TVXQ. It may also refer to how they cannot and will not sing the songs that they sang as TVXQ and how they are singers will their first full-length album even though they made a debut seven years ago. Hence, after going through trial and error, they showed quick improvement on their show on November 28 compared to the previous day, drawing reaction from the audience on the second and third floor from warmer weather, better arrangement of the floor seats and usage of a subsidiary stage. In that sense, the most important thing that the members of JYJ may need is time to build up a repertoire that is right for them.

PART 1

SBS talk show "Steel Heart" aired for the first time on October 6 of last year. And during the early stages of this massive show, while over 20 guests 'battled' each other with stories which are funny, sad or absurd, regular panelist Boom created small segments titled 'Boomkikago' and 'Boom Academy' which filled up the spaces in between such talk. His joining the military less than a month after the show premiered created a vacuum but his brilliant students Lee Teuk, Shindong and Eun-hyuk of boy band Super Junior continued his legacy with 'Teukgigayo' and 'Teuk Academy.' So how did these boys -- prince charming to numerous girls and hosts of their own radio shows -- carry on 'Teuk Academy' for a year? 10Asia met with the three who were busy preparing for a recording of "Steel Heart."

10: When "Steel Heart" first premiered, the three of you hosted 'Boomkigayo' and 'Boom Academy' with TV personality Boom. However, Boom entered the military a month later. How did you feel after hearing the news for the first time?
Lee Teuk: I was really at a loss. Honestly, before becoming really close to Boom, I always thought we would just go and shoot entertainment programs. But he taught us, "Whenever you make an appearance on a program, think about why you are on it and go on it prepared." He then added, "Let's try doing something together here." Also, "Steel Heart" was such a popular show from the start that we were worried whether we'd be able to keep doing well without him.

10: But it's already been a year now so I'm sure you're feeling all sorts of emotions.
Eunhyuk: We too say amongst ourselves "It's been a year?" a lot. We have made many memories on "Steel Heart" while preparing for 'Teukigayo' and 'Teuk Academy.'

10: In order to prepare for each segment, you would have to know who is appearing on the show, who that person is and if it is singer, you would have to practice their dance moves and be well informed before the show since there are an average of 20 guests. How do you prepare?
Lee Teuk: The three of us get together at around 3:30 a.m. since the radio show "Kiss the Radio" that Eunhyuk and I host ends after midnight and Shindong's MBC radio program "Shim Shim Tapa" finishes after two a.m. That is when we receive the list of guests from the producers and we begin to dig up any humiliating or past photographs and send them [the producers] an e-mail.
Eunhyuk: Many of the producers help us now but in the beginning we did everything ourselves. It was all handmade. (laugh)
Lee Teuk: Also, if there are any singers or celebrities who had a career in music, we get a list of their tracks together and try to create any dance moves or skits that could go with the lyrics. Even when we have two skits, it feels like it’s not enough so we begin searching online for humorous situations or add in any funny stories that we know. By then it is about 6:30 a.m. and towards the end Shindong edits the songs. When that is all finished it’s between 7 or 8 a.m. and we sleep until 11 a.m. and shoot the show for about ten to 12 hours.

10: I think the most popular segment has to be the 'introduction of past pictures' although it seems like you guys are trying out many new things as well. Are there any projects on the back burner that you think could be popular? (laugh)
Shindong: I thought the segment where you play with people's names would be a hit. It was originally done by comedian group Tin Tin Five. We talked with comedian Hong Lok-gi a while back and he said it was okay for us to write them since we liked it. So we came together, came up with a skit and we laughed over it so much during the meeting for it. However, when the segment aired, many of the names we called out got edited out. (laugh)
(laugh)
Lee Teuk: It was funny for a week, only a week. (laugh)
Eunhyuk: There is also the corner 'Pop Song Gag' that comedian Park Sung-ho had done and we tried really hard to come up with a skit for that as well but we were out of ideas in two weeks. (laugh)
Lee Teuk: Park Sung-ho told us that we were doing a good job and gave us his sources and gave us several song ideas. But it is definitely hard for us to come up with segments because we lack the ability to since we aren't comedians.

10: You guys are famous for your fun and diverse performances during your concerts. It seems that appearing on different entertainment programs have trained and helped you a lot.
Lee Teuk: I think we learned the overall flow of being on a variety show because on "Steel Heart," we have Korea's top emcee Kang Ho-dong and 'Midas Touch' [everything becomes a hit] Lee Seung-gi. Everyone has a role but if variety shows have emcees, there are also guests and I think the three of us form a connection between them. We are learning a lot about how to present and hold back depending on the guest. At the same time, we think about the kinds of role that we will be playing as we get older and that is what helps us figure out our position.

PART 2

10: Shindong, your dress up show is also popular. You recently even pulled off actress Shin Min-ah's look from SBS TV series "My Girlfriend is Gumiho." I'm sure even the preparation that goes into isn't an easy job so what would you say are the difficulties you experience if there are any?
Shindong: I actually had dressed up a lot since a long time ago -- so much that there were almost nothing I hadn't dressed up as. I used to dress up once a day when I used to host a show on cable channel Mnet. But dressing up as someone isn't just about dressing up like them. There is a large amount of pressure that comes from the fact that you need to express yourself to be exactly like that person while doing it so that it's also fun and what I was worried about a lot was whether the onlooker would enjoy watching me do it. I do think women enjoy it a lot (laugh) but it's most difficult trying to imitate people who are amazing. In that sense, I think the hardest person to dress up as was Rain since he shows his body. I was worried it would look like I was making fun of the performances he had put on so far if I tried to look funny by just baring my upper torso, but he enjoyed it to the extent that he said I did the best job out of people who have done parodies of him so far. I was very grateful for that. I think I'm able to do this because they themselves enjoy it as well. I sometimes do think that maybe I'm trying to create humor by simply using my body, but it's definitely something that doesn't just come out with the use of your body. I have to think about a lot of things, I need to put on more weight... (laugh)
Eun-hyuk: Put on more weight? (laugh) But really, he's not just good at dressing up as that person but he's good at expressing the characteristics each person has.

10: Well I'm sure you've met a lot of entertainers so far so who out of them have you thought 'I wish I could just be as good as him.'?
Eun-hyuk: Definitely Boom.
Lee Teuk: I think Boom is the most prominent figure when it comes to entertainers. And the best emcees are Kang Ho-dong and Yoo Jae-suk. There's an undeniable reason to why people say they are so.

10: What do you remember most from the know-hows or tips Boom has taught you?
Shindong: I love the confidence Boom has. Even if we might say "It's not fun..." while we were discussing amongst ourselves, he would say, "Let's just try it first. The atmosphere on set is different so let's just try it!"
Eun-hyuk: And then he says, "I'll back you up." (laugh) But really, even when something isn't funny, it can seem like it's funny if someone around you laughs about it. Boom had told us, "When your group members try to do something, laugh even if it may not be funny and make it funny." And like he says, there's three of us so we have the advantage in that sense.

10: Super Junior has pursued its singing career in a variety of units so I think the three of you could be called the "Steel Heart" unit. Are there any members of Super Junior who envy or want to join you guys?
Lee Teuk: Many. (laugh) Dong-hae does too and they all say they want to. And it's not just members of our group. Other celebrities say they want to join our academy as well. These days, After School member Jung-ah asks us how to audition for it.
Eun-hyuk: And of our juniors, ZE:A member Gwang-hee keeps saying he wants to join us which makes me feel very proud. (laugh)
Lee Teuk: Since "Superstar K2" is on these days on Mnet, and we had talked about this with Boom too, I think it would be good if we held an audition under the name "Superstar Academy" and accept a certain number of winners into our academy. The show would do great if it could air.
Shindong: Really! I want to do that. I'm hoping you'll emphasize this when you write the article. (laugh)

10: What more is there that you want to do with it being the first anniversary of "Steel Heart"?
Shindong: Donghae recently sang the logo song for "Steel Heart" so this is what we jokingly said while we were in the States for our concert. "What would it have been like if we were American celebrities? "Steel Heart" would be equivalent to about "The Oprah Winfrey Show," we'd be the regular guests who talk on the show and Donghae would have made the logo song." When the show gets bigger, I'd like the show to go to the U.S. and help make it known overseas.
Eun-hyuk: Many of the people at our LA concert had watched "Steel Heart" so they kept saying "Teuk Academy." Variety shows like "X-Men" have gone overseas before but it hasn't happened with a talk show before so I wonder what it would be like if it was tried overseas.
Lee Teuk: I'd like to try holding the aforementioned audition on "Steel Heart" and rather than wanting to do something in particular, I just hope we'll be able to do our show for a long time. We've experienced the difficulties that comedians face and how hard they work to come up with new ideas... we've actually run into a lot of walls as well. But when we call Boom, he says, "Regardless of how fun or boring you are, what's important is for how long you can keep doing what you're doing." It's been a year now so I'm hoping we'll be able to keep going until at least the time that Boom gets discharged from the military.

10: Lastly, any words you have for Boom?
Eun-hyuk: First of all -
Shindong: Take your time.
(All laugh)
Shindong: No, we want to try something new with him, if only he'd be able to come out quickly, but since there's only a set amount of time. (laugh)
Lee Teuk: I heard he's really busy in the military. That he's almost as busy as Lee Hyori so I hope he stays busy. (laugh)
