We previously reported that the KBS 2TV drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal” has been selected as a finalist at the “2012 New York TV Festival”. After a month of voting, it has been revealed that the drama took home the Bronze Award.

Producer Kwak Gi Won, who directed “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, was in attendance at the “2012 New York Television Festival”, which was held in Las Vegas, America, on April 17th. After receiving the award, he expressed, “Aside from the Korean audiences, I am looking forward to the Hallyu boom, which has swept across Asian countries such as Japan.”

The series, which was broadcasted on 2010, follows a woman played by Park Min Young who disguises herself as a man to enter the prestigious Sungkyunkwan National Confucian Academy, the Chosun kingdom’s highest educational institute, where no women were allowed. The drama was also became a hot topic with casts such as JYJ’s Park Yoochun and Yoo Ah In.

The ever so popular drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" has been transformed. into a made-for-TV movie!

After winning several awards in 2011 at the Korea Drama Awards, it became the first Korean mini-series to show at the 2012 New York Film Festival. Now, it has been edited to become a two-part movie made for the small screen.

The TV movie will mainly differ from the drama in that the main focus will go to the relationship between Park Yoochun and Park Min Young's characters.

The movie will air March 14th.

Actor Park Yoochun will be returning to the screen as a crown prince.
Park Yoochun is slated to be returning on the new SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Rooftop Prince’ as crown prince Lee Gak. It is his second attempt at historical drama after KBS’s ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’.
However there are several differences with ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’. In ‘Rooftop Prince’, as he is the crown prince who time-travelled to the modern days, the ratio of modern drama versus historical drama is 7:3. It is a modern day drama fusion with gist of historical drama.
However Park Yoochun’s acting and way of speaking will be leaning towards a historical drama as the character Lee Gak that Park Yoochun is enacting is a crown prince who could not adapt to the current times. ‘Rooftop Prince”s interesting tidbits would originate from the outlooks of Park Yoochun, who is sensitive and yet unable to accustom to changes.
Due to such settings, Park Yoochun’s character is different from the character in the usual romance-comedy. Contrary to romance-comedy where the male and female leads would act comically, Park Yoochun will present a sincere look from the start, which is similar to Lee Sun Joon in ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’.
Through the introduction by Park Yoochun’s representative company C-JeS, “Lee Gak is a character who has a strong sense of sincerity, however the surrounding situations would made Park Yoochun looked comically funny. The looks of crown prince eating ramyun etc, would made the audience laugh.”
They emphasized, “Although Lee Sun Joon and Lee Gak have a similar side, compared to Lee Sun Joon who is caught in a midst of a political battle, Lee Gak has his nonsensical humane side. The later half of the drama has plans to display the charismatic side, showing the various looks of Park Yoochun.”
‘Rooftop Prince’ is a romance-comedy about crown prince Lee Gak who time-travelled 300 years to modern Seoul and fell in love. This is a collaboration of Park Yoochun with Han Ji Min, Lee Tae Sung, Jung Eun Mi, Jung Suk Won and Lee Minho etc.
Additionally, Park Yoochun will be flying to Chile on the 5th right after the production press conference of ‘Rooftop Prince’. After the meeting up with the rest of JYJ, they would be the first Korean artistes to hold a standalone concert over there.

On February 6th, KBS reported that “SungKyunKwan Scandal” has been selected as a finalist in the mini-series category at the “2012 New York TV Festival”. After the gold, silver, and bronze awards have been decided, the results will be published next month. The awards show is expected to be held on  April 17th in Las Vegas, America. With “SungKyunKwan Scandal” becoming a finalist in the mini-series category, this could be a chance to become the first international award to be won this year.

On top of the exciting storyline in “SungKyunKwan Scandal”, this drama was also a hot topic due to the gathering of male actors such as JYJ’s Park Yoochun and Yoo Ah In, which attracted the attention of the female viewers. It has been recognised as a lead drama in the hallyu boom, and was also won the award for the hallyu category at the 2011 Seoul Drama Awards.

Secret Garden Wins Two Wards at Korea Drama Awards Including the Grand Prize

In 2011 Korea Drama Awards, the SBS drama Secret Garden which gathered much attention when Hyun Bin and Ha Jiwon as leads received the honor of receiving two awards—the Grand Prize and the Best Scriptwriter Award.

2011 Korea Drama Awards took place in the afternoon of the 2nd in Kyungnam, Jinjoo with Sohn Hoyoung and Choi Songhyun as MC’s. Secret Garden which created the Juwon-fever became a winner of two awards with the Grand Prize and the Best Scriptwriter Award. Sungkyunkwan Scandal which shined in the acting of the young actors such as Park Yoochun received the Best Director Award.

As for the Best Actor Award, Lee Minho who has risen as a new Korea Wave star won with City Hunter and Yum Junghwa won with Royal Family. Lee Minho won the Korea Wave Star Award and so won two awards. As for the Best Supporting Actor awards Joo Sangwook (Giant, Thorn Tree Bird) and Lee Yuri (Sparkle Sparkle Shining)both received the honor.

As for the Best New Actor awards, Kim Suhyun (Dream High) and Im Suhyang (Shingisaengdyun, Paradise Ranch) were selected. Kim Suhyun had the pleasure of winning two wards in winning also the popularity awards.

Member of boy band JYJ and actor Micky Yoochun proved how popular he was in Thailand.

He visited Thailand for a fan meeting on September 16th, held thanks to the popularity of the drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal".

An enormous crowd gathered at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport to see him. 3000 or so fans yelled out his drama name Seon-joon and greeted him.

In the end, officials dispatched a company of policemen and prepared for contingencies, and a good number of press were also there to catch a glimpse of Micky Yoochun.

Micky Yoochun will be having a single fan meeting on the afternoon of September 17th.

Actor Park Yoochun won Best Male Rookie and Popularity Award in Baeksang Arts Award.

On the 26th evening at Peace Palace of Kyunghee University, Seoul where the ’47th Baeksang Arts Award’ ceremony was held, Park Yoochun was awarded Best Male Rookie Award for Male TV Actor category.

The award was honored to Park Yoochun for the great effort he made while was portraying his role Lee Seon-jun in his debut drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ earlier last year. He beat other line up names of nominees for the award such as Kim Soo-hyun, Ok Taecyeon, and Park Jin-young before was finally able to embrace the honorable award.


Upon receiving the award, Park Yoochun revealed his emotional feeling on his acceptance speech, “It’s been hard for us to catch a chance and shall I say not many of good chances come to us as well, thus I’m happy to have such great drama and receiving so much love for it. I also wish there will be more good opportunities like this for us in the future.”

While after his another winning for popularity award, Park Yoochun preached his gratitude for his fellow JYJ members and fans, “After getting hurt, I become even more tougher,” he said the meaningful inner thoughts of him.

The ’2011 Baeksang Arts Award’ is celebrating its 47th anniversary this year, being launched for the first time in 1965, it’s been an event to award all those active producers and actors for both movie and TV sector throughout the year with 15 award categories for TV section and 11 categories for movies.

Park Yoochun’s power cannot be underestimated.

Aired last year, the KBS Drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal,” message board had reached 401,000 comments on 20 March. On 18 March viewer Ms.Sohn Sook Ja posted “The scholar has given up his position,” becoming the main character in the 400,000th post. To this, loyal fans of “SungKyunKwan Scandal” wrote “Congratulations, Scholar Sook Ja”, “Senior Sohn, congratulations on the 400,000th post” and other comments.

The hit series, SBS’s “Secret Garden,” whose viewership ratings had exceeded 30% this year, had approximately 44,000 comments on its message board. But the popularity of Park Yoochun and the others, as well as the passionate response is something worth considering as well. Although “SungKyunKwan Scandal’s” ratings had stopped at an average of 12.8% (AGB Nielsen), but the audience loyalty is higher among its followers as compared to other dramas.

The audience, following the terms used in SungKyunKwan, address each other according to hierarchy using “Scholar” and “Senior,” to create an interesting atmosphere of “life at SungKyunKwan.” Although “SungKyunKwan Scandal” had ended a long while ago, but in the “Love Room” of the “SungKyunKwan Scandal” Message Board, you can still see the passion for “SungKyunKwan Scandal.”

KBS Drama Executive Producer Lee Kang Hyun said, “ Of all the shows produced by KBS last year, “SungKyunKwan Scandal” received the most passionate response from the audience. “Baker King Tak Goo” and “The Slave Hunters” received high viewership ratings, and were all successful dramas.

Park Yoochun is scheduled to participate in the MBC Monday-Tuesday Mini Series “Goodbye Miss Ripley.”

K-pop star Yuchun caused a stir on the Internet on Friday regarding the size of his head, after a picture of him with his co-stars from KBS drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" was revealed.

A photograph of Yuchun, Yu A-in and Song Joong-ki was posted on popular online community website bestiz, showing the three stars in the waiting room for JYJ's "JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul" held last weekend.

Fans who have seen the picture responded, "Yuchun's head is really small, almost to the point of extinction" and "The three of the stars look really handsome and it truly seems like they're in for a lifelong friendship."

The three starred in KBS' mini-series "Sungkyunkwan Scandal," a fusion history drama set in the 18th century revolving around a girl named Kim Yoon-hee (played by actress Park Min-young) who disguised herself as a boy to get into a school.

The drama brought in viewership ratings in the high ten percent range on TV charts as well as taking the No. 2 spot amongst other Monday and Tuesday dramas during its two-month run starting late-August.

At the first worldwide concert of Dong Bang trio JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu), the casts of KBS 2TV drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ were spotted attending the venue.

The ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ casts namely Song Jong Ki and Yu Ah in attended ‘JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul’ which started on November 27th at 8 pm. The two people were the members of ‘Jalgeum Trio’ in the drama along with Park Yoochun and their attendance indeed showed a strong friendship among these three actors. The only main characters in ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ who didn’t attend is Park Min Young who happened to have a shooting schedule at the same day.

The representatives of the two actors said, “Despite the freezing cold weather, they made their way to the venue to watch the concert. Eventhough the drama had been completed, they still sincerely stay in contact with each other.”

Today is the first concert of JYJ conducted in South Korea. Fans from China and all over Asia were seen gathering at the concert venue to watch the performance.

World famous concert director/choreographer Jeri Slaughter who is in charge to manage the Seoul concert has planned to build a roof screen with original dome structure on the concert venue for the first time, however due to hail fall since yesterday morning, the ‘concert’s roof’ was failed to complete as in the prior plan.

Meanwhile before starting the concert, JYJ sent their message of condolences on stage to all Yeonpyeongdo island victims.

Park Yoochun and Yoo Ah In who proceeded to their own schedule after starring in “SungkyunKwan Scandal” which had ended its broadcast, continued to express concern over each other through Twitter, which attracted many attention.

Last Monday, Park Yoochun left a message for Yoo Ah In on Twitter, saying “You didn’t bring your handphone? Before I went to US, I gave you a call but your phone was switched off.” Afterwhich Yoo Ah In mentioned that “I’m anticipating this coming Saturday, Yoochun-ah, Chunchun, Small Chunchun, Yoo Sweetie”, mentioning many intimate nicknames, expressing his anticipation for JYJ’s 27th November concert and also support for Yoochun.

Hence fans said “Yoo Ah In is also coming this Saturday”, “Both of them seem close”, “I also want to use intimate nicknames for Yoochun”. At the same time, informing Yoo Ah In that there is a flash mob in the concert where audience have to dance to the song “Be My Girl” and mentioned “You must practice the dance before you come, please do not come unprepared.”

Seoul, Korea – Yoo Ah In continues to be gain popularity even after the end of the popular KBS drama Sunggyungwan Scandal, where he portrayed ‘Moon Jae Shin’.

Continuing popularity after the end of Sunggyungwan Scandal on the 10th, a photograph of Yoo Ah In visiting Thailand was posted up on an internet community board, grabbing the attention of netizens.

In this photo, Yoo Ah In tugged at girls’ hearts by showcasing a cute expression wearing a traditional Thai hat and posing in a traditional Thai greeting action.

KBS2TV's hot drama Sungkyunkwan scandal's official forum has generated an overwhelming response.

Women in their thirties have reportedly fallen into the charms of the 4 actors Park YooChun, Park Min Young, Yoo Ah In and Soong Joong Ki's and are unable to get out of it.

With regards to the soon to be broadcasted episode 19 of Sungkyunkwan Scandal on the 1st, more than 1000 comments have been left by viewers expressing that they have contracted the 'Lee Seon Jun Symptom' and 'Geol Oh Obsession'. Though ratings for the dramas have only been around more than 10%, the number of ahjumma fans the drama attracted is enough to form a whole troop. There were also reports whereby women aged 20 to 30 refused to attend dinners on Mondays and Tuesday (due to the clash with Sungkyunkwan scandal's broadcast).

A parent expressed that during an elementary school's parent's meet, many other parents were also discussing about Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Despite low ratings due to the clash in broadcasting timings with MBC's Jewel in the Crown and SBS's Giant, Sungkyunkwan Scandal still generated the most number of responses. The parent also mentioned about the manly charisma coming from idol actor Park YooChun and supporting actor Yoo Ah In.

One viewer who is a mother of two started a thread saying 'I've got the Lee Seon Jun Symptom' to give her thoughts on watching the drama. It says that she contracted the 'Lee Seon Jun Symptom' and neglected her daughter's homework totally. She used to switch channels whenever she saw DBSK's news but now she wishes JYJ's upcoming concert will be a great success. She also added that many ahjumma's who love this drama hope that there will be another sequel to follow up on the drama.

Not only viewers but many celebrities also cannot escape the 'Lee Seon Jun Symptom', as shown by Lee Yeon Hee and Kim Tae Hee who have shown affection towards Park YooChun. Singer Younha was also reported to have gotten the 'Geol Oh Obsession'.

With "SungKyunKwan Scandal" coming to an end soon, the fans of the drama in Korea are now requesting for a director's cut DVD to be released. At present, there are plans to release the DVD as a normal version or a premium version where only the 20 episodes that have been aired will be included, plus some possible extras (probably no subtitles).

As it usually is in Korea, a Daum cafe has been set up for Korean fans to express their interest in buying the director's cut DVD if it was to become available. Fans leave their name and contact details - like a petition. At the moment, Korean fans have collected about 1,000 names or so already.

However, after a meeting between the Daum cafe administrators and the production company today, the latter has requested at least 3000 names for them to even consider making a director's cut DVD. If we don't gather enough people, there will be NO CHANCE for that DVD to be released. Therefore, we're trying to compile the names of people overseas who would be interested to buy.

Amongst the viewers in Korea who fell for the attraction of "SungKyunKwan Scandal", celebrities are also included in this loyal group of viewers.
Kang Soo Jeong, who stated that she is a loyal fan of Lee Seon Jun (acted by Park Yoochun), is one of them. She even went to catch the JYJ showcase in Hong Kong held on the 24th of October. Soo Jeong wrote, "I think I would cry after next week", indicating her regrets for the broadcasting of "SungKyunKwan Scandal" that is coming to an end.

There are also many other female artists who are captivated by the charm of Park Yoochun. Kim Tae Hee once stated that she came to know about Park Yoochun through "SungKyunKwan Scandal" and has been paying special attention to him since then. Director of the drama series has expressed his gratitude for the love and support given to "SungKyunKwan Scandal", and that though a lot of people may feel sorry that the show's coming to an end, he will still do his best till the end.

TV drama series "SungKyunKwan Scandal" have started various trends, with nicknames like Micky SeonJun, Charming Geol-oh, Attractive Joong-ki, Demonic Yu-Rim. Responses from the viewers are very overwhelming.
