MBC drama "Heartstrings" ended on the 18th with a total of 15 episodes.

Despite the fact that this drama was created by master of comedy dramas producer Pyo Min-soo and lead by Hallyu star Jeong Yong-hwa, "Heartstrings" strayed around a poor result of 5~6%.

In the end, there were rumors about the changing of PD and writer or early closing and it ended an episode shorter than the usually planned 16. What is the reason it failed to promote?

◆ Failure in character structure

It's not an overstatement to say that the characters bring dramas to life. Slow progress can be recovered according to how appealing the female and male character is. Enthusiasm for the characters will soon lead to enthusiasm for the drama.

However, in "Heartstrings" there was no appealing character. The main actor Lee Sin (Jeong Yong-hwa) is the hottest boy with charisma in the Cultural Arts School but he is too much like a boy to say he's a man. The main actress Lee Gyoo-won (Park Sin-hye) is also nothing but a cheerful college girl that can be seen anywhere.

Musical director from Broadway Kim Seok-hyeon (Song Chang-ee) and female professor Jeong Yoon-soo (So I-hyeon) also didn't have many distinctive to feel their existence.

◆ A music drama that lacked 20%

"Heartstrings" promised the liveliness and passion of the youth through music and dance but it wasn't polished. Only Lee Sin played the guitar in his band and Gyoo-won played the Korean zither every once in a while but that was it to say it was a musical story.

As the 100th year celebration performance became centralized, through the process of preparing for it, there was no process of anyone improving. Only the fight for the leading lady existed and was misunderstood as an 'extreme youth drama'.

◆ Underdone love of the early 20s

The core of a romantic drama is a heart-beating love line. Viewers tremble at their love and get hurt by their pain. "Heartstrings" was about the love of 21-year old college students. However, it was only fresh and pretty. Maybe it was enough to affect viewers in their 10s and 20s but didn't communicate with the 30s.

Lee Sin and Gyoo-won were pure and cute but it wasn't desperate and stunning. Just like "The Greatest Love" and "Babyfaced Beauty" became popular with its love story up to the 30s, the viewers want a more realistic yet dramatic love story.

“Heartstrings” drama is expected to be shortened.

It has been made known that MBC Wed-Thurs mini series “Heartstrings” (writer Lee Myung Sook, PD Pyo Min Su) is planned to end with 15 episodes on Aug 18th. The drama was originally scheduled for 16 episodes but MBC is considering to cut it down by 1 episode.

After the leading actress Park Shinhye’s accident last month on July 18th, she was admitted to the hospital to receive treatment and because of it, the filming was temporarily halted. As a result, instead of airing episode 8 on July 21st , a special episode was broadcasted to replace it. MBC officials stated,”The contract between MBC and the production company was originally 16 episodes. Although it ends with 15 episodes, if you include the special episode, it still meets the contract.”

“Heartstrings” will be replaced by a new drama “Can’t Lose” (writer Lee Sook Jin, PD Lee Jaedong) and is expected to start airing on Aug 24th. It is also has been noted that on Aug 24th the 1st episode of “Can’t Lose” will be aired in the MBC TV guide. It is indirectly saying that“Heartstrings” will end on Aug 15th with 15 episodes.

The criticism surrounding “Heartstrings” from Pyo Minsu PD leaving the directing to another PD and also the script never stop. Because of the discordant in the production crew, the actors like Jung Yonghwa and Park Shinhye are having their share of loss. MBC’s official said, “As the lead actors, Jung Yonghwa and Park Shinhye still filmed throughout the night even when their body conditions are not well. But thanks to their enthusiasm, the drama can regain it’s energy.”

We have fallen for you~

“Do you want to know why everybody’s falling for me?” (Lee Shin)

It sounds harsh. But without knowing why, in a way it’s also romantic. The reason is because he is the scary “bad guy” type. The moment you’re mesmerized by Lee Shin who is ill mannered and never gives attention to anyone else, you will start to feel the love-sickness with lonesome and hardship.

Jung Yonghwa plays the “bad guy” character in MBC’s drama “Heartstrings”. Jung Yong Hwa plays a role as Lee Shin who only smiles the moment he plays the guitar, rides a bike and sees Professor Jung Yoon Soo (So Eh Hyun).

“Heartstrings” has been on broadcast for two weeks. The drama, sets in an Arts College, tells about dream and love stories of the teenagers that makes the viewers excited. Jung Yonghwa sent his selca photos for Sports Hankook.

* * *

# ‘You’ve Fallen for My Looks’

Fair skin, pointed nose, pale pink lips, sharp yet soft looking eyes …. looking through the camera lens, is Jung Yong Hwa falling for himself?

# With Shinhye!

Jung Yonghwa (right) and his future lover in the drama, Lee Gyuwon (Park Shin Hye). In the drama Gyuwon plays the gayangeum. This is Jung Yonghwa and Park Shinhye’s second drama after “You’re Beautiful” in 2009. “He is more like a good friend, rather than a man to me” according to Shinhye, but they really look good together.

# Fellow Band Member, Motivation to College

Kang Minhyuk (left) and Jung Yonghwa are both CNBLUE members. Since they are in the same group, going to the Art College together does give them a motivation. This is after shooting the baseball scene in the drama, as Jung Yonghwa’s left hand is in the baseball glove, while Kang Minhyuk with his shy “V” sign.

# Jung Yonghwa Deep in Thoughts

Jung Yonghwa is sitting alone on the bench. Wonder what was in his thoughts, with his eyes fixed to the ground. Even his shoulders seem restless.

#Bike Riding. “Click!”

Lee Shin’s main transport in the drama. He made girls hearts flutter seeing his hair being blown by the wind when he pedals hard. This is the photo before he melts every girl’s heart!

Thanks @CebuNuna for the help!

Lee Kyu-won (Park Sin-hye) held on to Lee Shin’s (Jeong Yong-hwa) leg and was dragged.

On the first episode of the new MBC drama, Lee Shin is the lead vocal of a famous band “The Stupid”. He is the biggest star in the art university.

A female student presented Lee Shin with a basket of candy and there was a note but he ignored it. Lee Kyu-won followed him with the basket of candy.

Lee Shin said, “I am sick and tired of getting confessions everyday a hundred times. You wouldn’t know“. When he was told he only looks at a girl’s appearance he said, “Aren’t you also a visualist? Or is our band that good at music?“

He tried to turn around and leave coolly. Lee Kyu-won fell trying to grab him. The basket spilled and it just looked like Gyoo-won was bending over his feet. The people around him started saying, “She got dumped“.

Lee Shin asked if she was alright and Lee Kyu-won waved him away in embarrassment making the viewers laugh.

Jung Yong Hwa reveals his “favorite horse,” in MBC’s new drama series You’re Into Me.

Jung Yong Hwa plays Lee Shin, a sarcastic and narcissistic vocalist and guitarist of a band in the series. Lee Shin always rides his white bicycle, the “favorite horse,” which is very special to him.

Actor Jung Yong Hwa says, “People tend to bring up a gothic image when they hear the word “band,” but Lee Shin gives a cheerful picture of a band with his white bicycle. He rides on it wherever he goes, so I have to ride it scene after scene. But I guess it’s fun to look around on the bicycle.”

Meanwhile, Pyo Minsu directs You’re Into Me with Jung Yong Hwa, Park Shin Hye, Song Chang Ui and So Yi-Hyeon in the cast. The series premieres on the 29th.

All the three land broadcasting company dramas have their eyes on the throne now that "The Greatest Love" is over. "The Greatest Love" was a big issue but other dramas behind it are also vigorous.

The follow up of "The Greatest Love" is MBC "Heartstrings" which is about the love and friendship of the characters who love music and arts. The cast includes Jeong Yong-hwa, Park Sin-hye and more with star producer Pyo Min-soo. It should also receive the after effects of "The Greatest Love" for a while which might increase the popularity quickly.

SBS "City Hunter" is also a very likely nominee for the throne. Its rate wasn't much different from that of"The Greatest Love". Lee Min-ho and Park Min-yeong play a big role in promoting the drama and the layout of the story is also winning it favors. It is very likely that "City Hunter" might take the place of"The Greatest Love".

"Romance Town" with Seong Yoo-ri is also eyeing for the increase in rate. Its firm cast and story layout shows potential for it to step over into the high level.
