(Note: This is a Japanese article and IU is considered 18 years old in Japan since she was born in 1993 and her birthday has not passed yet.)

IU is Korea's No.1 high school solo female singer (Note: IU has quit schooling to focus on her career). All 13 tracks on her second album, 'Last Fantasy' which was released in November last year, took positions 1 through 13 on major Korean music charts, achieving an unprecedented record of over 10 million downloads.

IU held her "IU JAPAN PREMIUM" SPECIAL LIVE showcase at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall on January 24th. About 4000 fans (2 shows) were selected from those who purchased her "I □ U" Japan Pre-debut album, released back in December last year, to attend this showcase. Including her encore, she performed 5 songs in total.

The live performance also featured an orchestra with 37 members. After her debut song, 'Lost Child', she performed 'Rain Drop', followed by 'Good Day' (Japanese version). She gradually raised the key towards the climax of the song and showcased the phenomenal technique of her '3 level vocal booster', which lasted more than 10 seconds. Also, IU announced that she would be releasing her Japan debut single "Good Day"(Japanese Version) on 21st March, to which the audience present responded excitedly.

As for the encore, she performed a cover of Minnie Riperton's "Loving You" on her acoustic guitar, her falsetto adding a splendid finishing touch to the whole event.

Her debut song, "Good Day"(Japanese Version), released on March 21st, is set to propel her to fame as a top artist. With a record of 5 consecutive weeks in 1st position in Korea, her name can be said to be synonymous with this song.

There are also promotion events for her Japan debut single. Out of the 3 versions on sale (Limited Edition Type A, Limited Edition Type B and the Regular edition), as long as you purchase one, you stand a chance to attend one of the 'IU Special Events' held at 5 cities in Japan (scheduled to be held at Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Hukuoka).

Furthermore, IU will be attending the "14th Tokyo Girls Collection 2012 SPRING / SUMMER" event held at Yokohama Arena on March 3rd. This is the first time IU will be attending Japan's largest fashion event. Although the details have not be firmed up yet, it is expected that IU will be performing "Good Day" (Japanese Version) at the event.

Following the success of her title song, 'You and I', IU said, "Next time, I'll take on the challenge of bossanova, or jazz even."

She will be holding her Japan showcase at Orchard Hall on Jan 24th. "We received lovecalls from Japan and I'm preparing for it with my mind at ease. I'm not going to Japan with the mentality that I'm out to accomplish anything, but simply with a tranquil mind," spoke IU with maturity. She seems to have no intentions to come out on top as the 'Gayo queen' in the Japanese music industry. We asked, "Is there really nothing troubling you at all?" Despite the burden of her overall performance in Japan weighing down on her, she looked calm and relaxed.

"There isn't any great significance attached to my Japanese debut. I think of it as merely standing on a different stage. I'm making preparations with the mentality that I want to enjoy myself, rather than to get 1st place. When I debuted in Korea, nobody expected me to do well either. After about 2 or 3 years after my debut, people started to know me, so won't it be the same in Japan too? If I don't do well straight away right now, it doesn't mean I won't be able to become a famous singer. Well if things don't go well, I'll just find fault with someone (Laughs)."

The plan is to have 5 or 6 hit songs performed together with an orchestra during the showcase. The title song for her Japan debut and date of release has not been decided yet. The promotion activities after her showcase are also still being drafted. However, it has been decided that the name of the album will be '아이유(IU)', as it will be a 'best album' (Note: I'm guessing that means it contains Japanese versions of IU's hit songs.) There will also be a small rectangle between the '아이(I)' and '유(U)'. The meaning behind this space is to get fans to imagine the IU they want to see. In response to the question, "If you could fill the box by yourself, what would you want to put in?", IU said, "I don't know about the person Lee Jieun, but the singer IU can transform up to 10 times in a day. I don't even know myself well."

IU expressed her thoughts honestly, saying that she has nothing special planned and simply wants to show everyone the real IU. She's also investing time and energy in studying languages. Upon finding out that Kara, with their ability to express themselves fluently in the language, managed to get close to the people, IU also hopes to interact with the locals in their language. We asked, "Being so busy, how would you find time to study Japanese?" and she replied with a smile, "It's not about being good at it, but at least I need to be able to understand the jokes.Since I mainly learn by talking to my Japanese teacher using KakaoTalk, to some extent, I know how to write it, but I can't speak it very well. To speak it well, I'd need a bit more time."

After IU became famous, people are watching every move she makes. Just a word uttered during a broadcast would spark off a plethora of news articles and on top of that, the plastic surgery suspicions and even Do Daeyoon's confessions on twitter, it seems there is never a peaceful day. Even the 'Chic girl' IU seems to be getting tired. (Note: 'Chic girl' is the new hot term for IU after all those photos from Seoul Music Awards yesterday)

"It's not tiring to me that just a word from me will make it to the news. Instead of me, it's the people at my company who seem to be having an even worse time. Certainly, I get bothered by it, but not for long. Um...it just crossed my mind that I should be careful with what I say (Laughs)."

Korean male idol group Infinite has held a mini live & high touch conference in commemoration of the release of their Japanese debut single "BTD" on November 18th. Prior to the event, a media conference that hosted 70 media companies with 200 personnel was held.

The members, all dressed up in white outfits identical to the `BTD` jacket photo, all introduced themselves in Japan. Upon being asked by his feelings about debuting in Japan, leader Sunggyu boldly replied, “We have waited anxiously for the moment that we debuted in Japan. We’re extremely happy and excited. Please anticipate our powerful performance as well.”

Infinite has blown a new storm up in the world of K-Pop, having debuted in June 2010 and brandishing an arsenal of music that has overstepped the boundaries of idol music and their dance which was titled, “Synchronization 99.9%” as their weapons. In “BTD”, the point of the choreography is the ‘scorpion dance’ which looks like a scorpion threatening its opponent with its spiked tail being played backwards, first showcased in January in Korea. Member Sungyeol said, “We flaunt our choreography that has the factor of ’99.9% synchronization’, but what makes that possible is teamwork.” Woohyun also explained its appeal hotly with “Our group is also known in Korea as the ‘training bugs’ (T/N: People that train a lot to achieve their goal). We have solidified our teamwork by practicing 18 hours a day. The result of this training was the scorpion dance. The way to complete the ‘scorpion dance’ is by methodical training.”

When being asked what their dreams were in regards to their Japanese activities, Sunggyu said, “I want to put in a lot of effort and meet fans in the Tokyo Dome,” Dongwoo continued with, “Then, my goal is to have a dome tour (laughs),” Woohyun added, “We’ll try until our bodies turn into dust,” Hoya hardened his resolve with, “I want to keep trying until people recognize me when I’m walking in the streets like, ‘Hey, it’s Infinite!’”, L replied, “I hope that people will be able to see our dance at the Kohaku Uta Gassen,” and finally, Sungjong with, “We’ll present good music so that people can gain strength when listening to it.”

After the conference, the mini live & high touch event were progressed, Infinite performed their Japanese debut single “BTD’ in front of approximately 10 000 people that had gathered, and performed 2 more songs than were scheduled, in total 5 songs, in front of the crowd such as their song ‘Be Mine’ that had won first place at a Korean music program. “BTD” has gone with a positive start in Japan by scoring second place on the Oricon Daily Single Charts.

Making their debut in Japan: 2NE1. Japanese boys are sure
to fall in love with their fusion of music and fashion.

The 4-member Korean girl group 2NE1 released their debut single in Japan, entitled "Go Away", on the 22nd February. Since their 2009 debut, they have become the 30th biggest group in Asia and their music videos have been viewed over 2.6 million times on YouTube. They are really taking the music world by storm and are gaining a name for themselves as a super unit. K-Pop's biggest group are looking forward to doing battle in the J-Pop market.

At last year's MAMA awards, 2NE1 became the first female group to win the prestigious Artist of the Year award. 2NE1 have finally arrived in Japan.

They made their debut in Korea in March, 2009 as the protegee of 5-member boy band BIG BANG. The R&B/electronic fusion, cool dance and eccentric fashion sense which have become so popular amongst Korean and Asian girls in general have been inspired by American singer Lady Gaga (25).

Since their debut, every one of their singles has gone to number 1 in the charts. As well as the MAMA, they have won a further 30 awards in Korea. This success is spilling over into the West. will.i.am (35) of the Black Eyed Peas saw their stuff on their internet and called them "genius."

Will was introduced to the girls in LA last summer and recorded with them. Fashion designer Jeremy Scott (36), a favourite of Madonna's (52), praised the girls' fashion sense, calling them "promising for the future." He can see their original style becoming world famous.

In the middle of all this, they have secured their Japanese debut. Japanese record company Avex saw one of their performances and were reportedly shocked by the perfection of the girls' songs and their refined fashion sense. After hearing about their success in Korea, they immediately set up negotiations with the group.

The single 'Go Away' is their first Japanese language song. The ringtone of this song will be available from 9th March. As well as Japan, entry into the western market is also in sight. The leader of the group CL (19) says that she hopes that they can live up to the fans expectations.

This popular K-Pop group will surely light up the Japanese chart race.

Yesterday, South Korean boy band “SHINee” held their first concert in Japan at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo and have announced that they are going to make their official Japanese debut under “EMI Music Japan” in March 2011.
In 2008 they were awarded Rookie of the Year in South Korea. Since then their popularity has kept on growing and now they are going to follow their fellow idol groups to Japan to expand their fandom even further.
Even before their debut they are already a big number in Japan. Within one month more than 100,000 people applied for a ticket for their performance today. In the end, 24,000 lucky people were able to see the five members of SHINee today. They performed two shows, which adds up to about 5 hours and 60 songs. There is no doubt that this must have pleased their Japanese fans.
Member Jonghyun still wasn’t able to fully perform with the others due to an injury on his left foot. “I’m sad that I can’t perform as much as I want, but at least I’m able to stay on stage with the others,” he said in tears.

Whether it's record sales or mobile sales, Kara achieved an electrifying all-kill in Japan music charts. It was recently revealed that Kara achieved an all-kill on Japan annual charts for #1 rookie. Based on all the sales, Kara was ranked the #1 newcomer and also was in the top 10 amongst all singers for the year.

On Dec 20th, Oricon revealed that Kara's music sales were #1 amongst newcomers this year. "Debuting in August of this year with the hip dance, Kara's 2 singles, Mister and Jumping>, Korean album and first full-length album, plus DVDs - totaling 8 items, sold 493,000 copies total and garnered 13 hundred million Yen." This was 10 times more than other rookies in 2010. They appear to be unrivaled in the newcomer market. Furthermore Kara's first full-length album Girls' Talk is nearing the 200k mark within one month, truly securing their place in the industry.

In addition to record sales, Kara has also been doing well in mobile downloads. Japan's mobile site Recochoku recently selected Kara as this year's top rookies, since they were #1 on charts such as ringtone downloads and music video. Kara was also voted as #5 on this year's MVP artists poll.

On Dec 9th, Japan's iTunes chart revealed that Mister was #14 on its annual chart. It's the highest rank out of the rookies this year.

In addition, Kara did well in USEN's rookie rankings. USEN recently revealed that Mister was ranked #18 for the year. USEN looks at hit song rankings, song requests and broadcasts to measure their overall ranking.

In truth, Kara hardly seems like rookies in the Japanese music industry. Kara is already receiving top-star level treatment in Japan with a very promising future. There are also rumors that broadcasting companies and commercials are all competing to get Kara on their show or advertisement.

Aside from just these numbers, public sentiment also reflects an explosive level of popularity. Japan's biggest mobile phone has selected Kara to be the main characters in a drama that will be aired in January to launch their phone model "au." There are also plans for Kara to be the main characters in a game that is being created by a famous game company. Japan's Karaoke charts have Kara's Mister ranked as the #1 song for the months of Nov and Dec, revealing Kara's popularity potential.
