Idol group Dalmatian who originally discovered and produced by MC Mong, will be leaving the rapper’s label, IS Entermedia Group.

The group’s contract with IS Entermedia Group had expired, and the members decided to sign with a new label, Two Walks Entertainment.

Prior to Dalmatian’s departure, other original IS Entermedia Group acts -- such as SG Wannabe and Maybee -- all decided to leave the label as well. Currently, only MC Mong himself and Shing Jung Hwan remain.

Meanwhile, Dalmatian announced they are planning for a comeback early next year with a new album.

Singer Baek Ji Young became emotional as she talked about her best friend MC Mong.

On the May 22nd broadcast of KBS2’s ‘Win Win’, Baek Ji Young made her appearance and reminisced about the difficult time she’s faced in the past. The singer remarked, “Right now I have a friend who is hurting just as much as I did in the past, and that’s MC Mong.”

She continued, “I don’t really want to discuss what or how he did wrong. He is simply my dongseng. He’s having such a difficult time right now and I want him to get past it”, shedding tears.

“I always call him and tell him that even I was able to overcome it all. I hope that he will carry through with that in mind.”

Rapper MC Mong has returned to Seoul after a holiday in the United States that was sponsored by fellow entertainer Kim Jang-hoon.

Kim sent the 32-year-old entertainer abroad to recharge after 16 grueling months of legal battles.

Last November, MC Mong was found innocent of charges that he tried to dodge his mandatory military service.

However, he was found guilty of having obstructed justice, and received a six-month prison sentence – which was suspended for one year – as well as 120 hours of community service. He faces his final trial in March.

“There seems to be no end to this drama. After the trial in March we are hoping that things will go back to normal. The prospect of work is unimaginable for MC Mong right now,” said the star’s agency.

On Jan. 11, Kim used his Web site to announce that he had paid for a U.S. trip for MC Mong, who he feared was suffering from severe depression.

“I was worried for his welfare in case he was at risk of killing himself,” Kim said. “For the last year he has spent his time hidden away at home or at the studio, always subject to public ridicule when he stepped outside. I see signs of depression and panic disorder in the guy … I felt like he really needed the break, so I sent him off.”

Since the accusations were made, MC Mong has been the subject of severe public criticism, prompting the celebrity to stay well out of sight.

Ever the political and social activist, entertainer Kim Jang-hoon has taken up another cause for when he isn’t busy championing the rights of the Dokdo islets and the so-called “comfort women.” This time, Kim has taken up funding the holiday of fellow entertainer MC Mong, who Kim suspects is suffering from depression.

On Jan. 11, Kim used his personal Web site to announce that he had paid for a trip to the United States for MC Mong.

“I was worried for his welfare in case he is at risk of killing himself,” Kim said. “For the last year he has spent his time hidden away in his home or at the studio, subject to public ridicule when he stepped outside. I see signs of depression and panic disorder in the guy… I felt like he really needed the break, so I sent him off.”

On an extra-long post that began with the singer pondering life and death and what it means to be a public figure, Kim maintained a neutral front as he mentioned in parts about the dilemma that MC Mong was in with regard to his military service. It was alleged that the star pulled out 12 teeth to defer his enlistment six times.

Last year, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced MC Mong to six months in jail on the charge that he had intentionally pulled out his healthy teeth just to be exempted from military duty. He was eventually acquitted of the charge.

Rapper MC Mong, who had some of his teeth pulled out several years ago in what some claim was a bid to escape mandatory draft, may end up being conscripted after all as the military and courts continue to investigate his case.

The rapper was sentenced to a six-month suspended jail term and 120 hours of community service last April for deliberately delaying enlistment on false grounds, which included made-up studies for a civil service exam and imaginary contractual obligations.

He was also charged with seeking dental treatment to escape the draft, but was acquitted in April and subsequently held a press conference during which he expressed his desire to serve in the military if chance permitted. The irony of the situation is that the court ruling, and his age, now makes him ineligible to serve his country.

Prosecutors are now considering appealing the April ruling, while the head of the Military Manpower Administration said on Tuesday that it is looking into the possibility of MC Mong serving his military service. For this to happen legally, the rapper would need to be found guilty by a court of appeals before 2014, unless the military comes up with another solution.

"According to the law, he cannot join the military, but we have asked the Ministry of Government Legislation whether it would be possible should MC Mong wish to do so," Kim Young-woo, commissioner of the MMA, said on Tuesday.

When asked by ruling Grand National Party lawmaker Kim Ok-lee whether there is still scope for the rapper to serve in the military, the commissioner said it depends on the reaction of certain government bodies.

"If the Ministry of Government Legislation makes the decision, we will review the case accordingly," the commissioner said. "When we told MC Mong that he could serve his military duty in the form of public service if a court of appeals were to find him guilty of the original charges, he refrained from commenting on whether he was willing to do so," Kim added.

MC Mong indicated his position after the court ruled that he did not violate the military service law.

Singer MC Mong, who had been charged with suspicions that he had purposely removed his own teeth to dodge mandatory military duty and had been found not guilty of violating military service law, said, "I am certainly guilty as I hurt people's mind. I would like to fulfill my military obligation". He participated in the official press conference held at the Grand Hilton Hotel for the first time after ten months since last June when the allegation concerning his military issue had been raised.

On April 11, the Seoul District Prosecutor's Office judged that MC Mong was not guilty of violating the military service law, but guilty of postponing his military duty by presenting false evidence. MC Mong said while shedding tears, "Now I want to fulfill my military duty.I am not trying to regain popularity from people, but I am trying to be honorable in front of people by fulfilling military obligation as a Korean". But MC Mong cannot join the military at this moment.

If he had been found guilty, MC Mong, who was born in 1979, would have been required to receive a physical examination again regularly until 2014 according to the military service law that says a person under 36 years old must fulfill his military service, but he had been judged not guilty, so he cannot join the army due to the age limitation.

He said, "I heard that I could not join the army even though I want to, and the only way that I can join the army is that I have to be found guilty. But I could not admit to what I never did. Actually, I do not know what I have to do right now. I only hope that I can have a chance to join the army or I can convince people about my innocence. And now I am trying to find every method for this".

MC Mong also explained his position about the judgment of guilty, which he recently lodged an appeal against, by saying, "It was my false statement that I postponed the enlisting schedule with false evidence by saying I took a national exam, which I had never taken. I am apologizing for telling a lie. But the timing for entering the army was a very sensitive issue not only for me but also for my agency, so I had to follow the decision that had been made by the agency. I have little excuse for this because I carelessly responded to my own problem". He also presented explanations on many issues that people have been curious about including the reason why he had questioned about enlisting condition by posting an inquiry on an Internet portal website in January, 2005, and the reason why he did not have an implant operation on his teeth.

He said, "I was one of those people who have to enter the army, so I just wanted to have information about enlisting. if I had tried to dodge my military duty by purposely pulling my own teeth, I would have not posted the writing with my own identification. I just wanted to know my physical level, so I asked about my physical condition for entering the army".

About the allegation that he purposely did not have an implant operation, he explained, "First of all, I was afraid of going through an implant operation. I could not see a dentist due to my financial situation at first, but later I did not have time due to my busy schedule. In addition, I felt Ashamed about my physical weakness. I also did not have any inconvenience about living life without teeth". He sincerely made an apology to the public. He made his last comment, saying, "I have fought not for dodging enlisting, but for being honorable as a person, not as singer MC Mong. I wanted to uncover the truth for my family and my fans, so I faithfully engaged myself in investigation. I had a hard time while experiencing the trial. I am really sorry to many people. But please never regard my sincere heart is bad only because I had pulled out my bad teeth. I could become more mature while going through this hard time. I am sorry for disappointing many people and not becoming a model for others as an entertainer". The prosecutor has lodged an appeal for the judgment made by the court that said he was not guilty.

Since last year, MC Mong has been attending trials back and forth due to his alleged draft dodging. Today, March 28th, the court held the closing argument process.

During the trial, the prosecutors questioned the singer, who seemed to pour out all the burden that he had been keeping inside for the past months.

He stated in tears, “It was hard to live when this whole thing surfaced. I really had no clue about the rumors that I was fabricating my enlistment issues, but I won’t be changing the words that I have said up till now. Something that is wrong was definitely not done. I am very sorry and hurt for those who have been disappointed with me. I am not doing this to restore my reputation, or for money and fame. I am woeful. I sometimes even get thoughts that I have actually done something wrong, but I am not a liar and I will take whatever decision they choose.”

After revealing his inner feelings, MC Mong wiped off his tears and left the site.

At the same court, MC Mong’s final trial will be held on April 11th, where a decision will finally be made.

KBS placed a ban on MC Mong, Shin Jung Hwan, Kim Sung Min, and Crown J, who had recently stirred significant criticism.
KBS announced on December 10 that they had decided to ban those entertainers through a council meeting held on December 8. The decision to restrict their appearance on KBS was made because MC Mong has been suspected of dodging his required military duty, Shin Jung Hwan was charged with gambling, and Kim Sung Min and Crown J were charged with illicit drug use. Once they are banned on KBS, they cannot appear on any program even through film footage.
But the decision to ban MC Mong and Shin Jung Hwan was exceptional because MC Mong’s trial is still due to be held in March and Shin Jung Hwan has fled overseas without being investigated by the police. A person in the KBS council said, “We decided to ban all those entertainers because they could ruin the reliability of broadcasting. If someone is acquitted or has enough time for self-restraint and self-reflection, we can lift the ban.”
By adding those four entertainers, KBS has come to ban a total of 22 entertainers. KBS places a ban on entertainers who have aroused social criticism with immoral or illegal behavior through a decision made by council meeting.

MC Mong finished his second trial on November 29 and he said at that time, “I have received too much love from the public up until now, so I put more priority on the judgement by the public. Now I am in court, but it is not because I felt unfairly treated, wanted to fight, or wanted to gain popularity again. Even after this trial, I will still wait for the public’s verdict on me. I want you to give a little more time for me and wait for me, who can hardly breathe these days.”

During the second trial, dentists who had treated MC Mong directly or indirectly presented testimony as witnesses. Some dentists said, “I had stated my views according to the document that the police had already made up,” and their statement has aroused controversy regarding the investigation by the police.

Rapper MC Mong, who has been indicted on suspicion of having healthy teeth removed in 2006 to avoid the draft, has denied the accusations. "I did not have my teeth pulled on purpose to avoid the draft", said MC Mong (31), whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, at his first trial hearing on Thursday.

"I have 11 teeth missing and two teeth are broken right now, and my mother is also suffering from dental problems and had 10 of her teeth removed", he added. "I had my teeth pulled at the recommendation of my dentist".

He admitted willfully postponing the draft by pretending to be studying for a civil service exam or claiming to be headed overseas. "I knew that I was delaying the draft, but I did not know it was illegal and it was done at the behest of my manager".

He added he was living alone when his mother received his draft notification letter, which she delivered to his manager. He then merely obeyed the instructions of the management agency and later chided himself for being oblivious to the fact that postponing the draft by making up excuses is illegal. "If I had known that the actions I took to postpone the draft were illegal, I wouldn't have committed them", he said.

He added he would accept any punishment if his behavior created problems. If he is found guilty before 2014, MC Mong must undergo another physical exam for the military. He passed with flying colors during his first physical checkup in 1998.

MBC-TV reported on Tuesday that a dentist confessed to having taken 80 million won from entertainer MC Mong in return for keeping secrets about his intentional extraction of his teeth as a way to avoid military conscription.
The report came two days after the prosecution indicted the TV celebrity on suspicion of dodging mandatory military service by pulling out his healthy teeth.
But news reports said MC Mong's side denied the bribery allegation.

The Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office brought a charge against the singer and TV entertainer, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, that he had three health teeth intentionally extracted between 2004-2006 in order to receive exemption from the country’s military duty, Yonhap News reported.
The 31-year-old was first tested fit for the two-year service in 1998 but determined ineligible in a second qualification exam in 2007, which found him with defective masticatory functions. He was missing 11 cheek teeth when he received his military health check-up.

Police Discover Incriminating Online Posts Made by MC Mong
Authorities have recently uncovered an online inquiry made by MC Mong regarding his military enlistment. This cyber evidence is a concrete example of Mong's intention to draft-dodge.
It has recently been discovered by the Seoul Central District Court that MC Mong has posted an inquiry regarding his military service, which provices police concrete evidence in which to prosecute Mong for draft-dodging.
On October 11th it the Seoul Central District Court stated, "The current situation has him very likely to be prosecuted for draft dodging."
Mong's lengthy internet post dates back to January 2, 2005, and was posted on the website Naver, under the username of "thugmong1". He wrote,
"I checked the military laws and it says that I can receive an exemption, but what if I don’t? It’s a dental problem. I currently don’t have 8 molars. I have one false molar. With just this, I receive a predicted score of 51 on my health test. However, one of my canine teeth and four of my front teeth are dentures, bringing me down to about 47 or 49. I printed the information I found on this site and found that a score between 49 and 51 is the minimum needed to get a level 5 exemption. Are there any instances where they don’t give you a level 5 exemption if you get re-tested? Do they just strictly go by military laws? They only told me to check my physical ranking and I need a more detailed response. Have a lot of luck in the new year."
/img/news/1/1442-kzy2tqguen.jpg
To his question, a military surgeon replied, stating that he knows of a man in worse condition currently in service. Prosecutors believe that this answer prompted Mong to remove yet another tooth in order to increases his chances of avoiding mandatory enlistment.
Authorities have also charged an anonymous entertainment agency CEO, "A", aged 45, along with a military affairs broker, "B" at age 33, for aiding MC Mong in his minitary aversion scheme, which inclided extracting eight teeth needlessly between the years of 2004 to 2006 at a clinic in Kangnam.
/img/news/1/1442-esxs4am2kl.jpg
Mong reportedly bribed "B", who is the alleged owner of a private design school, to replicate a false proof of registration, which warrants a three month delay in enlistment. This ploy was performed a total of 422 times.
As was reported earlier, Mong's fate has been put in the hands of a board of citizens, and his waiting for their verdict.
Let MC Mong's mistake serve as an example. Be very cautious of what you put on the internet, because it may very well come back to haunt you.

Nine years old at the time, psychic girl Lee Soh Bin appeared on 'Star King' in 2008 to display her psychic abilities. To MC Mong she had boldly stated, "You have committed a mortal sin. You've wronged many people so ask for forgiveness." To the unexpected prediction, MC Mong had replied, "I fought with my mother yesterday. Fighting with your mom isn't a mortal sin though." Without wavering, Lee Soh Bin repeated, "You have committed a mortal sin."

Due to the recent controversy regarding MC Mong's confirmed enlistment evasion, netizens have been unable to hide their shock at the predictions accuracy. The video's been spreading like a wild fire online, and viewers have commented, "It's giving me the chills. Nobody took it seriously at the time," "The prediction was correct," and "Good for her (for predicting correctly)."

OMO! That's so CREEPY!! Oh-oh! Goosebumps! A nine-year old predicted that?????

A total of 20 songs have been swept up in legitimate plagiarism controversies since 2000, and it has recently been revealed by the Committee on Culture, Sports, Tourism, Broadcasting & Communications that the royalties earned by these songs total to $1,724,138 USD.

Jin Sungho of the Committee revealed a series of documents submitted by the Korea Music Copyright Association describing the situation behind royalties received by composers that have plagiarized. According to the document, the court has found a total of 20 songs to be plagiarized, some including MC Mong’s “Letter to You,” Hyori’s “I’m Back” and “Swing,” Lee Seung Ki’s “Mask,” Son Dambi’s “Saturday Night,” Lee Seung Chul’s “Scream,” CNBlue’s “Loner,” and GDragon’s “Heartbreaker.” The problem lies in the fact that royalty payments of nearly $250,000 USD per song were paid without any clear standards, totaling nearly 2 million USD.

Jin Sungho went on to state, “To plagiarize is to steal a creation by someone else. It is unjust for royalties to be paid when songs are found to be plagiarized and/or suspected to be plagiarized. We will be aggressively pressing the government offices to create a guideline on plagiarism in order to protect the rights of music producers.”

Recently, it has been confirmed that popular hip hop singer MC Mong has purposely removed a number of his perfectly normal teeth to avoid being conscripted into the military. An investigation has been carried out to examine these accusations as draft dodging is a serious crime in Korea.

South Korean Metropolitan police stated the following on the 10th of September, “Using three reasons, such as: applying for the grade 7 civil service exam, occupational training, and traveling overseas, MC Mong delayed his military enlistment 7 times between the years 1999 and 2006. During the two times he delayed his draft for his civil service exam application, he participated in the filming of a movie, released albums and participated in other activities.”

Because South Korea is known for it's ongoing use of conscription where all able-bodied men are to serve in the military for approximately two years, the news has had great impact.

Click here to see the Australian article.
This news about MC Mong dodging military enlistment has already spread through a few countries neighbouring Korea but what's surprising is that it has reached Australia as well. As I am from Australia myself, I would know that it's not usual for Korean news to travel this far and to appear on our news sources.

The singer denies the accusations but was evicted from TV programs soon after the police investigated the case. Celebrities are frequently caught attempting to get away from  the draft fearing that they may be forgotten by their fans while away in the army.

The producers of the 1N2D corner on KBS 2TV’s show, "Happy Sunday", has decided to edit out MC Mong’s part of the show.

MC Mong is currently under a non-restraint charge for being suspected of avoiding his military service.

On the 12th, the producers of the show told Money Today’s Star News that after consideration of Korea’s sentiments on the issue, they have “edited out as much of MC Mong’s part as possible from the episode to air on the 12th.” They also mentioned that the normally 80 minute show has been cut down to 65 minutes.

As for the future of MC Mong’s participation in the show, the producers revealed that they will make that decision after discussing the issue a bit more.

In the mean time, the Seoul Police Office, currently investigating MC Mong’s suspected evasion of military service, has decided to serve MC Mong with a non-restraint charge. On the 11th, it was revealed that the police will soon be sending MC Mong to the prosecutor’s office.

The police have gathered a large amount of evidence while investigating MC Mong’s case and is planning on telling the prosecutor that this case may have to be taken to court.

Military administration to strengthen screening

By Lee Hyo-sik

Singer and TV-show host MC Mong, 31, Monday denied allegations that he had healthy teeth extracted in order to dodge mandatory military service.

His denial came after the police’s decision to book him without physical detention based on that charge.

Posting a letter on his homepage, he said he was exempted from military service due to an abnormal dental structure, claiming he had never intentionally had healthy teeth removed.

``I have never, ever, had a normal tooth pulled to avoid the military. I suffered excruciating pain because of unhealthy teeth. I had to get rid of them,’’ he said.

The singer, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, said he has occasionally made minor mistakes in front of his fans as an entertainer.

``But I have not lived an immoral life. I have never abandoned my principles.’’
He also said he was born with bad teeth, adding he was not able to receive proper treatment when he was young because of his family’s financial problems.

``I even took 10 painkillers at one time to relieve my toothache. When I finally went to a dentist, he was surprised at how bad my teeth were,’’ the singer said.

MC Mong then said he made no dubious deals with the dentist to avoid going to the military, stressing he received the required treatments.

``I requested a physical reexamination and was exempted from the military service for a rightful reason,” he said. “I am so heartbroken after reading viewers’ comments posted on bulletin boards of my programs. I will do everything necessary to regain my good reputation for myself, my parents and those who truly believe in me.’’

MC Mong’s statement came two days after the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said the popular entertainer was found healthy enough for active-duty as a soldier at his first physical checkup in August 1998. But in 2008, he had 12 teeth extracted and was able to get exempted from military duty.

The police said the singer is suspected of having extracted at least four of them to weaken his dental function and ultimately for exemption from military service.
They also said he had postponed entering the military service seven times from 1999 to 2006 by providing various illegitimate excuses.

MC Mong is currently appearing in ``1 Night 2 Days’’ on KBS and ``Haha Mong Show’’ on SBS. Following his draft dodging allegation, many viewers requested the broadcasters expel him from the programs.

KBS largely edited out scenes in which MC Mong appeared on Sunday evening. But SBS ran the Haha Mong Show as scheduled on Sunday morning, inviting harsh criticism from viewers.

Its homepage was inundated with comments slamming the broadcaster for the airing of the show.

Meanwhile, Rep. Kim Hak-song of the governing Grand National Party (GNP) said Monday that the Military Manpower Administration has strengthened its screening of those who have been exempted from active military duty or assigned to an alternative service program, because of bad teeth.

``The administration sent an official notice to its district offices across the country on Feb. 17, ordering them to tighten the physical checkup on draftees with bad teeth not to illegitimately exempt them from military service,’’ Kim said.

The Feb. 17 date marks the day right after the police were tipped off on MC Mong’s possible draft dodging and began investigating the allegation.

Police have been investigating MC Mong due to suspicion of military enlistment evasion for the past several months. Recently, it has been revealed that during the past 7 years, MC Mong has postponed his enlistment 7 times. MC Mong has been receiving more criticism than ever.

MBC’s “News Desk” stated on the 10th that MC Mong received his first draft statement for active duty in August 1998. Thereafter, MC Mong delayed his enlistment for the next 7 years 7 times. Additionally, at the time, twelve teeth that MC Mong no longer has were reported to be in normal condition.

There were a variety of reasons stated for his seven postponements. A few of these include MC Mong’s application for a Civil Officer Examination, work related training, and qualification examinations.

MBC stated, “During the height of his activities in the media in 2005 and 2007, he postponed in enlistment with the argument of his ongoing Civil Officer Examination Application.” They also revealed he had performances on the day of or the day after the examination.

MBC stated that due to his low scores on his dental health examination in 2004, MC Mong received a military service exemption. However, he is being investigated because of the recent increased suspicion of the possibility that he intentionally removed his teeth.

Representatives of MC Mong are asserting, “There were no medical procedures done in order to illegally receive exemptions. All medical attention was given for legitimate reasons.”
