A manager at Key East Entertainment, which manages famous actors such as Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Hyun Joong, is being investigated in six cases of rape.

Seoul’s Gangnam Police Agency revealed on October 25 it had arrested the 24-year old manager, Mr. Lee, on charges of sexual assault. Mr. Lee sexually assaulted six women in Busan and Seoul from November 2011 to last month.

The investigation by the police revealed up to six women so far, in their 20s through 30s, have been victims with many of them being assaulted and raped in their own homes after being followed by Mr. Lee. He was also arrested on September 16 for raping a woman after following her into her home in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul.

A Key East representative expressed, “We are in the process of confirming the facts behind this. But we are unable to get in touch with the manager in question now and can’t say anything more.”

They stressed, “This matter is totally unrelated to Kim Soo Hyun. We were quite surprised because Kim Soo Hyun has been mentioned. The manager in question isn’t Kim Soo Hyun’s main manager since our celebrities are managed by many managers.”

Six major talent firms in Korea have come together to form an agency named United Asia Management (UAM).

A press release on Friday announced that AM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, KEYEAST, SM Entertainment, Star J Entertainment and YG Entertainment will jointly establish UAM, aimed at creating exchange and cooperation, and a casting system within Asia.

The six agencies currently manage some of the biggest names in the Korean entertainment scene: AM Entertainment, actors Jang Dong-gun and Hyun Bin; JYP Entertainment headed by singer-producer Park Jin-young, artists 2PM and Wonder Girls; KEYEAST headed by actor Bae Yong-joon, actors Kim Hyun-joong and E Ji-ah; SM Entertainment headed by Lee Soo-man, artists TVXQ and Super Junior, Star J Entertainment, actors Soo Ae and Kim Nam-gil; and YG Entertainment, artists Big Bang and 2NE1.

UAM will act as the global agency for the singers and actors under the six talenthouses, as well as manage and build a database system, and carry out business in video content production such as films and dramas.

The new firm will also act as the agency for celebrities outside the six firms, helping them in their endeavors in Asia, and raise its level of efficiency by sharing the overseas business networks they each hold, the statement explained.

UAM set to be led by Star J Entertainment chief Jeong Young-beom, is aiming for establishment by the end of this month.

The biggest entertainment companies in Korea have joined together to create one massive management agency known as “United Asia Management.”

All of the artists under SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, KeyEast, Star J Entertainment and AMENT will now be managed under the company in their endeavors including movies, dramas and all other entertainment content production.

The six companies came together to share their business know-how and network so that they can advance the Hallyu wave into an Asian Pop Music wave all around the world.

It’s still unclear as to whether the artists will be both under UAM along with their respective companies.

What is clear is that this is essentially a monopoly that could crush smaller companies and their artists…
