KBS placed a ban on MC Mong, Shin Jung Hwan, Kim Sung Min, and Crown J, who had recently stirred significant criticism.
KBS announced on December 10 that they had decided to ban those entertainers through a council meeting held on December 8. The decision to restrict their appearance on KBS was made because MC Mong has been suspected of dodging his required military duty, Shin Jung Hwan was charged with gambling, and Kim Sung Min and Crown J were charged with illicit drug use. Once they are banned on KBS, they cannot appear on any program even through film footage.
But the decision to ban MC Mong and Shin Jung Hwan was exceptional because MC Mong’s trial is still due to be held in March and Shin Jung Hwan has fled overseas without being investigated by the police. A person in the KBS council said, “We decided to ban all those entertainers because they could ruin the reliability of broadcasting. If someone is acquitted or has enough time for self-restraint and self-reflection, we can lift the ban.”
By adding those four entertainers, KBS has come to ban a total of 22 entertainers. KBS places a ban on entertainers who have aroused social criticism with immoral or illegal behavior through a decision made by council meeting.

South Korean police have asked Interpol to help arrest Shin Jung-hwan, a singer-turned-TV personality suspected of gambling illegally at casinos in the Philippines.

The 35-year-old has remained overseas since late August despite repeated calls from the police for him to return to Korea for questioning. He is believed to be somewhere in Nepal, according to his aides.

Shin has denied the gambling allegations against him.

“We cannot wait until Shin’s voluntary return,” said a spokesman for the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. “We will soon cooperate with Interpol to bring him back.”

The spokesman said the latest conversation on the phone between the police and Shin was in mid-September, in which he said he was staying in Nepal. Currently, nobody is in contact with him.

“Neither his family members nor his manager knows anything about his whereabouts,” said the spokesman.

This is not the first time that Shin has been embroiled in gambling-related troubles. In 2005, he was slapped 7 million won in fines for gambling at a foreigner-only casino here.

TV-show host Sin Jeong-hwan, 35, reportedly lied about his coming down with dengue fever to cover up his gambling in Cebu, the Philippines, and is seeking to fly to another country to escape from heated media attention.

The popular singer and entertainer had claimed that he had been hospitalized for treatment for the disease, denying allegations that he lost hundreds of millions of won at a casino and borrowed money after putting his passport up as collateral.

However, staffers of an SBS TV entertainment program, which aired on Thursday, met a doctor from the hospital in Cebu and quoted him as saying that Sin had no symptoms of dengue fever.

The doctor said Sin just checked in to take a rest on Tuesday. The report came just hours after Sin posted a photograph and a long letter on his fan club website, showing him taking a medical checkup.

He claimed that his visit to a casino was just sightseeing and did not get involved in any form of betting.

Sin, who was discharged from the hospital on Friday, is believed to be either staying in a hotel in Cebu or has left for a third country. An aide to Sin told a local media outlet Sunday that Sin expressed hope that he would go to another country rather than returning home.

The aide, who paid a visit to Sin at a hotel in Cebu, originally planned to return to Seoul with him on the weekend.
But Sin changed his mind after a series of negative reports on him, he said.

"Sin expressed that he wanted to take a rest at a third country. He checked out of the hotel and disappeared", the aide was quoted as saying.

Sin left for the Philippines on Aug. 26 and has cut off communication with his agency for a while. He did not appear for the scheduled filming of some programs.

This is not the first time that the singer-entertainer has become embroiled in gambling-related troubles. Sin received a 7-million-won fine for gambling at a private casino in 2005 and was banned from broadcasting, but returned to the entertainment business after some "self-reflection".

Many were confused and shocked when Shin Jung Hwan seemed to go AWOL from three variety program recordings that he was supposed to be involved with. It seemed like a mystery as no one was claiming to know where he was, well it has now been revealed that he was detained in the Philippines!

SBS Evening News reported, “Shin Jung Hwan is in detention in the Philippines because of gambling debts. He has been gone for four days without any explanation. After checking with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was revealed that he is residing in a casino hotel in the Philippines.”

A related source said, “Shin will not be able to return anytime soon. He can’t afford to take the plane back to Korea. He gave his passport to a loan agent and loaned out money to gamble with. But now, he has been detained in the hotel because he can’t get his passport back.”

His company is avoiding giving an explanation, stating that, “It’s a personal problem.”

An insider said, “Shin Jung Hwan has a lot of gambling debt. His salary from shows have been taken away as well. It won’t be easy for him to pay off the gambling money.”

Shin Jung Hwan was also in a drama over gambling back in 2005 but had redeemed himself, after getting himself in the same predicament, what will this do for his career? Either way, don’t expect him on television any time soon.
