In a drunken interview with 'trend idols' conducted by  Ilgan Sports, Infinite members shared their stories about love.

When asked a question if it would be possible to date a fan, Woohyun answered, "Nothing's impossible as long as I love her. Besides our fans are the most beautiful." Hoya added, "There was an instance where we see pretty fans in the front. When we go back to our waiting room, we ask each other, "Did you see her?" If she catches our attention,we will go to her and sing a song."

However, Sunggyu said, "Honestly, in our current situation, it'll be hard I guess."

In addition to that, the members generously shared their first love experiences.

Firstly, Hoya shared, "I had a unrequited love for a noona who is one year older than me when I was 18. Because of her, I had decided to live in Seoul with my grandma for few months." Sunggyu relived, "During my highschool days, I think I'd become crazy running to catch her because I really wanted to see her a lot."

Sungyeol surprisingly revealed that he dated a noona who was 5 years older than him. "I was in 2nd year high school when I dated a noona who is 5 years older than me. I saw her on the streets and ran to her to get her phone number. Because of that, we gradually became close."

Sungjong admitted that he still thinks of the memories he had with a girl of the same age he dated when he was in 3rd year middle school.

It’s Swagger Time
Dongwoo and Hoya who are known for being playful in INFINITE teamed up totally differently under the common denominator that is hiphop ! These charming two men’s name is INFINITE H. The start is somehow extraordinary.

Ceci : Today’s shooting concept was ‘Men who know how to play well’, have you ever had moments when you felt like saying ‘I play quite a bit’?
Hoya : I am a man who knows how to play when the time comes. It’s been a while since I’ve last had fun. Isn’t enjoying work like playing? Since my work is to sing and dance I don’t have any other hobby.
Dongwoo : Even without preparing myself, I think every place is my stage.

Ceci : What’s the difference between INFINITE and INFINITE H?
Hoya : First of all, schedules end much earlier. Also, we’re now splitting the work in half so our sense of responsability became stronger since Dongwoo hyung is the “lea” and I am the “der” (laughs)
Dongwoo : When the seven members are here it’s really noisy but when it’s just the two of us it’s a little bit more quiet and relaxed.

Ceci : Today your second teaser got released and you’re holding your showcase tomorrow, how do you feel?
Dongwoo : Nervous. We’ve worked hard while preparing for it and we’re wondering about what we have to do to obtain an even more satsifying result.
Hoya : We’ve practiced self-control while rehearsing the title track choreography in order to look like a proper hip hop unit. We’re also a bit pressured. Since this is really different from our usual dance group image we have as INFINITE. We’re also worried about how we’ll shine through the camera. We’re confident but we’re still lacking in experience.

Ceci : What kind of song is your title track ‘Special Girl’?
Dongwoo : It’s an extremely free and relaxed song. Men who are hesitating to confess their feelings will be able to relate to it quite well.
Hoya : It contains the sweet and sensible feelings of a guy who has a secret crush on someone.

Ceci : You seem to be quite familiar with this?
Hoya : It’s been a while since I’ve last been in a relationship so I also feel like I’m relieving my stress while singing or through raps.
(Ceci : Isn’t it possible to have crushes even if you’re not dating?)
Dongwoo, Hoya : Exactly, we always have crushes.

Ceci : All the musicians who participated [in this album] are talented artists. Among the five tracks, which one did you like the most?
Hoya : (While looking at Dongwoo) Isn’t it “Special Girl” for the both of us? We’ve never had to voice our opinions for INFINITE’s title tracks. This time with the H album, our CEO asked us what kind of title tracks we wanted. It must have been really hard because all the songs were good.
Dongwoo : [To the CEO’s question] we both replied “Special Girl”. We were really relaxed when we recorded it but I feel like it came out really well.

Ceci : It must be a big chance to be able to do the music you like as a member of an idol group.
Dongwoo : Of course ! When we first met with the sunbaenims we were about to work with for the first time, it really felt like a dream. Dynamic Duo, Primary and the others are musicians I really like and I usually rap or sing along to their songs. When we met them personally, it’s at that time we realized we were about to release an album.
Hoya : While promoting with INFINITE, we’ve never once thought we would ever have such a chance. The couple of months we’ve spent working on the album felt like we’ve learned for years.

Ceci : In this album there is unfortunately no songs you’ve personally wrote. Do you usually write lyrics steadily?
Dongwoo : Of course, I have moments when I think of lyrics when I’m given a beat. The two of us also work together. I tend to chat cheerfully and write teasing lyrics of the “rated” kind.
Hoya : We both have song lyrics in our phones’ memos. I’ve been writing sad stuff lately.

Ceci : If each of you could create another unit in INFINITE, how would you compose them?
Hoya : Let’s stop here with the units. (Laughs) Honestly, I am looking forward to seeing another member go solo like Sunggyu hyung. Especially Woohyunie hyung ! Sungyeol. L. Sungjong as well, I feel like rather than being paired with someone else, being solo fits them more.
Dongwoo : In Hoya and my case, we have a lot of things in common and we like the same things so that’s how we were able to create a unit this naturally.

Ceci : You said the birth of Hoya’s passion for gags, ‘Hodrip’ is quite the trend lately? (T/N: ‘drip’ is the Korean word for joke) How would you evaluate one another’s sense of humour?
Dongwoo : I’ve never intentionally tried to be funny so… As for Hoya, I wish he’d be a little bit more greedy than he is now when it comes to gags. You can sometimes see he’s hesitating when he’s saying something funny. He has to try more diligently for the gags to be funnier.
Hoya : Ah, would it be okay for me to be more greedy? (Laughs) I’ve never seen [Dongwoo] hyung try to be funny but with his natural tongueslips and whimsy thoughts, he’s really funny. Compared to him, I am quite more into planned gags.
Dongwoo : I sometimes only say what I think and the whole room just laughs so I’m surprised.

Ceci : If you do planned gags, you must be quite proud to see that ‘Hodrip’ is the current trend.
Hoya : I am extremely proud. I sometimes look at the ‘gag pictures’ our fans made and laugh by myself. (Ceci : You said there was a ‘Thank you, thank you’ trend?’) Ah, this one came out in the reality program we had that was called ‘Ranking King’. Because I had troubles with my eyes, I kept wearing sunglasses. I also repeatedly said ‘Thank you, thank you’ to what the members were saying and it came out really funnily.

Ceci: What your fans are the most curious about is their oppas’ life in the dorm. Who are your current rommates?
Dongwoo : Hoya’s is Sungjong. Mine are L and Sungyeol and our manager hyung also uses the room with us. For a few months, all the members’ schedules were so different we pretty much only saw each other when going to sleep. (Ceci : How are the other members doing?). They’re working on their personal schedules. They’re learning about things in the field they wanted to work in and each of them are busy. It seems like it’s a time during which each of us is making his own talents stronger. Hoya and Sungjong both like watching movies so they watch TV together.
Hoya : I am especially drawn into the emotional drama genre or melos. Is it the time for me to be sensible to sensitivity? It’s something I’ve yet to say to anyone but weirdly, I’ve been crying while watching sad movies or listening to sad music lately. I am definitely not the sort of person who cries a lot. I don’t know why I am like this.

Ceci: How’s INFINITE’s ranking lately? Not too long ago in an interview, Sunggyu said he was calling Hoya hyung.
Dongwoo : Sunggyu hyung likes this sort of jokes. To be honest, we don’t really check who’s the most popular or who has the most schedules. Since we’re all different.
Hoya : Lately, the members who’ve been the most free are Sungjong and Sungyeol. The rest is pretty much equally busy. These two are definitely in the lower ranks [when it comes to being busy] (laughs)

Ceci : Hoya’s high ranking helped him getting advertisement deals.
Hoya : Hm. I only got one. (Ceci : How was the kiss scene with the actress Lee Yoo Bi?) It’s something that came out from the producer’s head suddenly on the filming set. I think we’ve filmed it about five times. Since we were above a shaking rift I was nervous so I kept missing her cheek and did it next to it. And her hair stuck to my lips two or three times, making it a NG. (Ceci : What was the members’ response?)
Dongwoo : We gathered in front of a notebook to watch it and we were jealous. They looked as lovely as a real life couple.

Ceci : What’s the biggest issue between you two lately?
Dongwoo : I think it’s rap. Since we were filming ‘Immortal Song’, we talk to each other a lot while writing raps.
Hoya : We also discussed about the album a lot. Also, whether it’s a teaser or a music video, don’t singers usually watch them first? But in our case, it’s the fans who told us about our two teasers. Dongwoo hyung asked ‘When did it come out?’ and we’ve replayed them 50 times at dawn. We also know that the editing of our music video is done. But we have yet to watch it. We’re probably going to watch it after our fans again.

Ceci : What’s the thing the two young men in their 20s Jang Dongwoo and Lee Howon need right now?
Dongwoo : Time to do what I want to. I am talking about what our peers generally do. I used to enjoy skate boarding in the past. I can’t do this anymore now. I wish days were 48 hours long !
Hoya : My family. I sometimes want to live with them. Even though since I am a Kyeongsang-do man by nature, I talk to them in a brusque way when I am on the phone with them. I’ve been missing my family lately. I can see how Dongwoo hyung looks sort of ‘recharged’ when he comes back after visiting his family. Since I can’t do this I get a little bit more lonely. Ah, my parents are coming to the showcase tomorrow, I am seeing them for the first time in 6 months. Will I even be able to meet them for five minutes? But I’m still happy.

As a girl group member, solo singer, and a special co-starring role in “Gangnam Style” (the most watched YouTube video ever,) HyunA has become one of the most visible and in-demand stars of K-pop. But before “Gangnam Style” was even released, HyunA was making waves racking up millions of views on YouTube for her enchanting music videos that display her unique balance of sexy and cute charms. The viral nature of singles like “Bubble Pop!” (with 47 million views), “Ice Cream” (35 million), plus 4minute’s “Volume Up” (14 million), prove an interest further than just K-pop fans.

HyunA has blossomed into a true superstar in the past years and the good company she keeps laid the ground for a successful pathway. it may surprise many to know she originally debuted as part of the ultra-successful Wonder Girls group in 2007 (she raps the bridge in single “Irony”). She left the group due to health reasons that year, but ultimately landed with Cube Entertainment where she debuted with 4minute. Later she found the opportunity to promote as a solo artist and even with exciting unit projects like the Trouble Maker sub-unit, with labelmate Hyunseung of boy band Beast, and Dazzling Red with other K-pop all-stars.Yet all things seemed to move into hyperspeed with her appearance in PSY’s “Gangnam Style” video as the rapper’s gorgeous dance partner. With over one billion views, HyunA inadvertently was lodged into the international consciousness. HyunA and PSY released a collaboration version of the mega-popular track with almost 250 million views; the second most-viewed K-pop video of all-time.

HyunA took time to talk to Billboard in a rare interview. Watch the video to get a behind-the-scenes look at her photoshoot, plus read on to learn about collaborating with PSY for her music video and whether she plans on debuting in America. Plus, be sure to read our bonus questions below including plans on 4minute’s comeback this year.

You had an exciting 2012. What was last year like for you?
I have so much to be thankful for in 2012. When I look back at last year, I was such a lucky person. I was extremely happy as I was able to perform on all kinds of stages and meet/work with new people. It was interesting to work with a lot of international directors and producers.

“Gangnam Style” surpassed a billion views! You had a large popularity in K-pop before the music video, but did it help you gain more recognition in foreign countries?
First and foremost, I just want to thank PSY. I received more than I can ever ask from him that it actually worries me. I am worried that I might inconvenience or have inconvenienced him because I received so much love and attention because of him. But as long as I work hard and get good results, I think everything will connect.

Do you have plans to debut in the States?
I can’t specifically talk about my plans, but it is true that positive ideas are being discussed. It is all because of PSY and I have been very lucky. I think people are taking more interest in me because I’ve been getting a lot of exposure lately. In order for me to jump on the opportunity [should it arrive], I need to be prepared. I am putting in a lot of hours studying English. I think I’d fit in quickly. I mean, my vision of the U.S. is limited because I can only see or learn things from here, but I want to go experience it all.

Every time you release a video on YouTube, it goes viral! What do you think it’s about you that fans worldwide love?
I think PSY opened a lot of doors for K-pop artists. During our performances, I can tell that our audiences have tripled lately. I think there’s going to be a lot of artists that are going to start breaking down barriers and paving ways for K-pop artists to crossover. I don’t really get intimidated about trying out new things on stage. I can go from doing an electronic track to hip-hop to even folk songs. I think people like that variety in me. Honestly, I don’t think I’m exceptionally pretty or talented. But the advantage I have is that the performances I do can only be done by me. When most people see me in person think I’m either really small or skinny. I think people are more attracted towards my personality, smile and energy [once they get to know me]. People tell me they like my personality more than my face [Laughs].

PSY appeared in your “Ice Cream” video. What was that like?
Honestly, I felt really bad asking him for a favor! Especially because he was so busy with promotional activities overseas. I did not want to burden him by asking whether or not he would want to make a cameo appearance in my video. But he thought nothing of it! He was back in Korea for a commercial shoot, while I was shooting for my music video so the timing worked out perfectly! You can see from the video, but we ad-libbed the entire opening scene. It wasn’t hard acting like I was mad at him for eating my ice cream, because he really enjoyed it!

You worked with producer Shinsadong Tiger for your singles ”Change,”“Bubble Pop,” and “Trouble Maker.” But for your latest track, “Ice Cream,” you worked with producer Brave Brothers. How was it working with a new producer?
I wanted to embark on new endeavors. It’s easier to work with people that are familiar with me and my musical style, but I wanted to really challenge myself and do new things. I focused on areas that I never tried out before. I participated in composing and writing for one of the tracks in my latest album, which was fun.

Do you have a favorite solo song?
I don’t have a favorite between “Change,” “Bubble Pop” and “Ice Cream.” I was able to show different charms through all my solo tracks. People were able to see a new side of me in the “Ice Cream” music video. All my songs are dear and meaningful to me!

So far, fans have seen your hip-hop side as well as your writing and composing talents. Is there a specific genre that you would like to try out next?
I don’t stick to one genre or color when I work. I listen to everything and keep up with new releases, and during the process, I pinpoint out what I don’t like and what I like, which allows me figure out my own musical style. I want to focus on what I’m good at to show my best qualities. It was a crucial step for me to include a ballad track in my album. “Very Hot” is another meaningful track, because I participated in writing and composing.

Do you play any instruments?
I am interested in piano. Luckily, I know how to play a little because my mom sent me to piano lessons since I was a child–although, I quit in the middle. I don’t think I would even try to learn now if I didn’t have any basic fundamentals.

What is the difference between 4Minute’s HyunA and solo artist HyunA?
4minute’s HyunA is still me. I’m able to do solo activities because there is 4minute. [My bandmembers] are the ones that complete me as an artist; they are like my family. We spend more time with each other than we do with our own immediate family members. Of course, we weren’t that close in the beginning. All of us aren’t very sociable nor talkative; we are all somewhat introverted. I don’t have that many friends, so I like to keep the ones that I really care for close to me. When we are promoting as a group, we focus on our teamwork and the harmony of our each individual characteristics. I can’t tell you exactly when, but 4minute’s album will come out sometime this year.

Describe 22-year-old HyunA.
I am a very confident and honest woman. I don’t usually dress up for my daily activities or when I meet my friends. I don’t wear a lot of makeup. There is a huge discrepancy between my onstage and offstage persona. I like to be provocative and enthralling when I’m on stage. But because that “sexy HyunA” image is so embedded that most people think that I would be like that offstage, which isn’t true.

What are some common misconceptions of HyunA?
Every time I hear that I crave for attention, it hurts a little. I cry a lot alone out of frustration. But then again, I know it is something only I can have. So I’m just going to use that to my benefit and try out different makeup, hair and stage costumes. Honestly, I am more known to the masses for my performances, not for the amount records I sold. I consider myself a visual performer. It would be nice if I can do both, but that is why I have my members to cover my flaws. Our synergy effect when we are together is really good. People get nervous when they have too much. I don’t have enough to be nervous. I just have really good people around me. I think people with a lot of good friends are emotionally rich. I like working with good staff members and performing on good stage. If I cared about every criticism towards me, it would be exhausting. I just know I have to try really hard in everything that I do.

How do you respond to those who say you’re overrated?
I get a lot of support and help from all the amazing people around me. It’d be amazing if everyone loved me, but I guess I will get that as long as I work hard. These days I’ve been thinking that I should always remain the same. For example, just because I’m crossing over to the States, I don’t want to start all over and try to be someone else. I just want to be me and show what I have been doing for all these years. I just want to be relaxed and have the opportunity to meet a lot of different kinds of people.

What kind of platforms would you like to perform on in the near future?
The year-end award shows in the States are really over-the-top and grand. I want to be part of all kinds of award shows in Korea, but it would be awesome if I can participate in award shows in foreign countries.

Where is your go-to place in the States? What do you like to eat?
I prefer to eat pizza over Korean food so American food fits my palette pretty well. I go to In-and-Out [Burger], because the franchise is not in Korea. When we [4minute] go to the States, In-and-Out is the first thing we eat when we get off the plane.

Is there a fan you remember the most?
I can’t really pick one specific fan. We went to Brazil and London for our “Cube United” concert and that was just beyond awesome. Especially in London, it felt like I was part of the movie “Love Actually.” I love the ambiance of London. In Brazil, one of the fans fainted and was carried out. Because we never saw her again, she lingers in my mind. We were so worried. It took us about 30 hours to get to Brazil, but it was all worth it because the amount of love they showed us. They were really passionate.

What are you interested in these days other than music?
I am very into fashion. The sneakers that I wore during “Ice Cream” promotions, I picked and re-designed myself. I am interested in stage costume as well. I think it’s because I’m just curious about so many things. I love learning new things. During photo shoots, staff members that know me well always hands me the camera. The TV series that aired last year on OTV called “4Minute’s Troublemaker” was mostly shot by me. One of the episodes aired 20 minutes of footage that I filmed! I also like collecting scented candles. I light them up according to my mood. I prefer aroma, jasmine and bergamot. I like displaying my collection and just looking at them!

What are your goals for 2013?
I would like to continue the way I am, but I would also like to take up new ventures and improve myself. I get praised and reprimanded all the time. I hope to better myself this year. I think my heart grows bigger each year. When I go to bed, I always recollect my thoughts and look back at what I did for the day. In 2012, I met a lot of good people. I think I learned a lot in 2012 working hard with my staff members.

K-pop girl groups are perfectly groomed by their labels’ respective training regimen, and know exactly how to tingle our hearts with sugary croons. Their cutesy antics and dazzling appearances also help a great deal. But often times, their actual talents as singers and performers come into question. High heels and coordinated mini skirts can dazzle a fan base only so far.

YG Entertainment’s girl quartet 2NE1 (a play on “to anyone”) breaks that mold. First appearing on the scene in 2009 with the label’s male counterpart Big Bang on a skull-drilling song “Lollipop,” the girls quickly rebounded on the disputed hype with a thumping club single “Fire.” Equipped with air horns, loud streetwear aesthetics, flamboyant rapping, and free-for-all choreography, the group stood out immediately in a market clustered with fembots. Thanks to the self-titled EP’s release, 2NE1 instantly became a hot commodity in the emerging K-pop market. With a successful follow-up, the official debut LP To Anyone, raking in 120,000 copies in sales, and each of the five singles selling an average of two million downloads, the clique of CL, Minzy, Dara, and Bom became international superstars. Psy who?

Aside from their great range of musical outputs, the group’s known for its excellent styling. While a typical K-pop girl group settles for schoolgirl uniforms or scantily clad dresses, 2NE1’s stylists deck out the members in a wide range of clothing from Brooklyn streetwear brand Mishka to French design house Balmain. This soon caught the attention of designer extraordinaire Jeremy Scott, as he personally set off to provide collaborative adidas Originals gear for the group, propelling 2NE1 as K-pop’s most recognized style icons.

Back in August, during their New Evolution U.S. tour, Complex captured 2NE1 in their finest wardrobes. Jeremy Scott sent us his Fall 2012 collection, and the girls brought in their own Givenchy and Balmain fashions.

Check our fashion photoshoot out in the thumbnails above, and read the next page for our in-depth interview where the girls talk about their upcoming ventures into the U.S. market, solo career ambitions, and how they stand different compared to other K-pop acts.

How would you consider your visit to the States this time?
CL: We’ve decided to hold this tour with the intention of introducing ourselves. So, instead of embarking on a career in America, this is more so the start before the beginning. We’re here to introduce who we are, how we look like, what kind of music we make, and meet with our preexisting fans.

What are some difficulties you think you will face?
CL: We actually had this conversation on our way here. We feel like this is our third time debuting. We started in Korea, and then it was Japan last year. Like all starters, there are many places we have to introduce ourselves. When we debuted in Korea we had to do that, we did the same when we debuted in Japan, and it feels the same here.

There were other K-pop artists in the States. After seeing how they approached the U.S. market what have you guys learned, and how do you all expect to move forward?
CL: Well, instead of approaching it differently, we just like to enjoy doing our music. I just think we want other people to enjoy it with us. We’re not trying to use a specific plan. If we’re sincere about our performances, we’re sure many people will connect with us. We try to stay cognizant of it at all times.

What are some traits about 2NE1 that make tastemakers like Jeremy Scott and Diplo want to work with you girls?
CL: I just think we like similar things. We look toward similar goals. When we meet Jeremy, and Diplo, who’s friends with Teddy, we’re just all really passionate about what we do. It’s not about the money or the fame, they’re just people that really want to impact the world. Especially guys like Jeremy Scott and Diplo, they’re people that took things to the next level. And those people identify with other people like themselves. Real recognize real.

In comparison to other K-pop idol groups, did you ever feel like you girls are at the forefront of trends?
CL: What? We feeling that way about ourselves?

Yeah, like, “Oh, why are they biting our style?” Ever felt that way?
Bom: Yes. This is just my personal opinion. Let’s see. Don’t quote me. When we first debuted, you saw us wearing swimsuits. I feel like a lot of our styles are imitated.

How about musically?
CL: But, it’s not necessarily just us that are doing it. We’re just doing what we enjoy. So if others like it then that’s great.

But you’re the “baddest female.”
CL: Yes, I am. [Laughs.] But I wouldn’t say we’re trendsetters, we just like to do something new. Because it’s not fun when you’re doing something that’s already done. And telling people about it is also what gets us excited.

Is 2NE1 the group similar in style and characteristics to 2NE1 as regular girls?
CL: That depends on each member.
Bom: For me it’s very similar. Instead of music that’s too amped up, I like things that are subtler and in the R&B lane. It fits my personal taste. Our foundation lies in hip-hop, so it works.
Minzy: It fits me well. I like hip-hop, rap, and R&B as well. All the songs, and just musically the group’s sound fit me well.
Dara: For me it was a bit different. Initially, I was very quiet, and reserved. My personality and musical taste were also less obtrusive. After I became a member of 2NE1, many sides of me that I haven’t noticed started to unveil itself. So I’m having fun in that sense. I wouldn’t say I’ve changed, but just sides of me that haven’t been revealed started to come out.
CL: 2NE1 itself doesn’t represent one genre of music. Our foundation lies in hip-hop, but we like to intertwine various styles of music. “Ugly,” has more so a rock flavor, we’ve also done records with some reggae twist, so I think diversity works best for us. For me, I’m very different on stage. Chaerin and CL are opposites. I consider myself black and white. On stage, I become the baddest female. [Laughs.] Parts of us that we don’t even know ourselves just come out through the music.

On 2NE1 TV it seems like you guys have a wonderful relationship. How much of it is real?
CL: [Laughs.] In front of other people we’re more reserved, but when four of us are together, we’re unbearably loud.
Bom: We can’t act that out. If they force us, we just can’t do it.
CL: We really can’t. We chit chat a lot, and it’s a lot of fun. Bom, Dara, and Minzy are very funny together. I’m usually the quiet one that’s just laughing. I’m only talkative during interviews.

Among the members, does the age gap affect the chemistry?
Bom: Not at all. Seriously. I don’t really want to say it, but we’re really like friends. Sometimes [points at Minzy and CL] they take care of us like mom and dad. They really look after us.
CL: A lot of people get surprised. And some look at it in a negative light, but once you’re around us you’ll know. Both [Dara and Bom] spent a long time outside of Korea, so they treat us like equals, and look at us as friends in a very natural way. And we just have to watch out and not cross the line.

CL, now that you’ve acquired your goal as a singer, what are some other aspirations you wish to achieve?
CL: I just love art as a whole. Right now, I’m pursuing music, but there are many aspects of art. Fashion is art, and everything is intertwined. I just want to continue working in this field, whatever it may be. You know, a lot of people work in fashion, and a lot of musicians get involved in it as well. I think doing that like others isn’t really that fun. I want to get into it, and share similar outlooks with other young people.

Now that you’re officially 21, what do you do for fun?
CL: When I said I’m a boring person, I also meant to say that I stay home a lot. I’m always working, and when I’m not doing something, I just stay home.
Bom: I think we’re all similar in that sense. Not sure why, but we’re usually just home during our off time.
CL: We’ll have to see about Minzy, though. She still has few years left. [Laughs.]

Dara, you’ve had an active career in the Philippines. What was the reason for you to join YG Family in Korea?
Dara: Working in the Philippines was a lot of fun, but since I’ve had huge aspirations of debuting in Korea, I’ve decided to join the label. I started out as a trainee. I knew I had to start all over again from the beginning, but at the time, I came without much affliction. And I wouldn’t say I was distraught when I did come to Korea, but I definitely missed the Philippines.

Bom, I first saw you appearing on a record with GD & Top called “Forever With You.” At the time, I thought you were going to be Korea’s Mary J. Blige.
Bom: Yes, at the time I was thinking that, too. [Laughs.] But I always wanted to be part of a group. I could have a solo career even as a group. Other members have traits that I don’t possess, so I thought it’d make more sense to debut as a unit.

Dara and Bom, where do you guys see yourselves in the next five years?
Bom: Not sure if I’m still going to be a singer. But I’m sure I’ll be doing something related to music. I could even be a vocal teacher, and if the opportunity permits, I’ll continue singing.
Dara: Not sure if I’ll still be active as 2NE1, but I want to continue on as a musician.
Bom: Let me just add just one thing. I might still be active as 2NE1.

If each of you guys were to partake in solo careers, what style of music do you see yourselves pursuing?
CL: I like so many different types of music. I think I’ll be making various genres of music. Even if I pursue a solo career, I think I’ll continue to sing, rap, and I really love band music as well. I want to try reggae, I want to try straight-up hip-hop…
Dara: I personally want to do something that’s more bright and lively. It could be pop music, or acoustic music. Since I grew up in the Philippines I’ve been influenced by a lot of the local music.
Bom: I’ve released some music as a solo artist, but if I do get an opportunity, I’d love to do something more like Mariah Carey. Or something that’s more so traditional R&B. Just something with more soul.
Minzy: Ever since I was little, I’ve always enjoyed R&B, rap, and hip-hop. My idol growing up was Michael Jackson, but I also love Snoop Dogg.

Were you jealous that Girls’ Generation did a track with him?
Minzy: [Laughs.] No, I wasn’t, but I wish I could do a song with him, too.

What’s 2NE1 afraid of?
Dara: Loneliness. After leaving the stage, when we’re back at our individual hotel rooms, I think all of us could agree, there’s this sense of emptiness. It’s a little difficult to explain.
CL: I think that applies to anyone who performed for a huge audience. It takes you all day to prepare for the show, and you give it your all on the stage. When you go home after such an ecstatic show, especially when we’re not in Korea, without our friends and family, it feels a bit surreal entering that hotel room. Where everything’s so clean, so organized, and it’s not a space you can claim as your own. You were just somewhere with thousands of people screaming, and then you’re somewhere awfully quiet. That contrast in surroundings, really affects the mood.

But seems like the overall energy of the group is very optimistic.
CL: Yeah, since we’re doing what we love to do. If you think negatively, negative things will happen as a result. So we think of positive things, hoping more good things can happen.

Were there other trainees that you guys knew, who didn’t make the group?
CL: It was just four of us. [Laughs.] But we trained separately. We were all training to be solo artists. Bom was practicing to be a solo act, Dara was training to be an actress, Minzy was by herself, and I was by myself as well. There were only four us, so we’ve known each other for a long time. We never imagined a group would happen. When they announced it, I thought it was so weird, and so different that it wouldn’t work. There was an age gap, too.
Bom: At the time, Minzy was a real baby. She was very small.
CL: But I think that worked to our advantage. We were short sighted, too. We thought it would only work if we were similar. But looking at it now, it’s better that we’re different.

"Friends in Song
Two of a Kind"

The first appearance of the 6-membered idol group 2PM in Vogue Japan was in the August 2011 issue.

The photoshoot was done in June in Tokyo. While most international celebrities halted their activities in Japan after the earthquake, the members of the group had visited Japan again quite earlier than expected.

At a rooftop studio located in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo, they are riling up good responses from the readers as they immersed themselves and posed with the concept of "flying into the sky."

Approximately 2 years have passed, and big changes have taken place, be it in Japan, Asia, or even the world. And at the same time, the members have also grown more matured.
They received Golden status by the Record Industry Association of Japan for their 5th single "Masquerade" almost immediately after it was released last year in November, and now they're in the middle of a nationwide Arena Tour, which started on the 11th of January.
Moreover, they will also be having their first ever concert in Tokyo Dome on the 20th and 21st of April, titled "LEGEND OF 2PM in TOKYO DOME."
They've also made themselves quite known throughout the nation with their fixed program, "NHK One Point Hangul."

2PM Taecyeon and Nichkhun are members who actually grew up in the States. They came to Korea at the age of 18, and now both of them are the next generation's successful Asian stars who've received endless love and support from fans in Korea, Japan, China and all of Southeast Asia by the age of 24.
These two who had led a normal teenage life in the States have now grown into a very active and well-known stars in the Asian entertainment market. I wonder, what do they think of this unexpected situation?
The concept of the photoshoot for this time is about capturing how these two spend their relaxation time backstage, at ease before a performance. And no doubt with this very relaxed atmosphere, we were able to be exposed to their true selves.

---I heard your new album ('LEGEND OF 2PM', which will be released on February 13th) will be released soon.
TY: I have a good feeling about it. And the songs also reflect our thoughts and opinions.
NK: Solo songs composed by each of the members are also included in the album.

---Even self-composed songs?
NK: It'll be my first time for this album. I wanted to thank my fellow fans who've been supporting me and loving me without a fail, so I thought, "Isn't there anything I can do to repay them?" I was quite worried about it, when suddenly the title "Let It Rain" popped up in my mind. I immediately sat in front of the piano after that. And so, this song just came out quite naturally.
TY: As for my composed song, I put in the beats first, and then from there, the chorus part is created. I don't put in too much thought or sit still in front of the piano or anything like that. (Laughs) I also write the lyrics by myself~.
NK: Firstly, I wrote the lyrics in English. Because I think my true feelings are expressed the best in English, in the hope that the same meaning will get to each and every one of our fans. Do look forward to each of our solo songs at the Arena Tour.

"From the States to South Korea~ Testing out the possibilities."

---Your first encounter?
NK: I was scouted when I was in the States, and then I moved to South Korea for the first time. At that time, both of us were only 18 years old. I couldn't speak any Korean at all, so Taecyeon was my translator at that time. (Laughs) He was both my translator and a fellow trainee at the same time. It was a pity that he wasn't paid for the job though. (Laughs)
TY: We were also roommates. But when we first met, I thought he was a Korean person so I had said "annyeonghaseyo" to him, when he just went "Huh? Huh?" so I was thinking, "Why isn't he answering me?" (Laughs)
NK: Ahahaha. Taecyeon still wore his glasses at that time.
TY: And Nichkhun's hair was standing so upstraight that it gives the feeling of "What the hell is this!?" (Bursts into laughter)
NK: Ah, so embarrassing. I guess that's just me in my younger years.

---What kind of teenager were you when you were in the States?
NK: In short, I had this California feeling~.
TY: I had a Boston feeling.
NK: Taecyeon is the so-called "model student" type of teenager.

---Do you like studying?
TY: Of course!
NK: He is quite intelligent. Like we can be in a totally different conversation when he'd suddenly talk about science or history.
TY: I don't have any particular favorite, but I am generally really interested in world history. I really read a lot of history books in the past.
NK: I'm more of a "sports student" rather than a "model student." I started playing badminton when I was 9 years old, I even went to big matches. My father had adviced that this could be one of my possibilities.
TY: He's very good at it.
NK: I've only had a badminton battle with Taecyeon once and no more after that.
TY: It's very tiring to chase after the shuttlecock here and there, so it's definitely a no-no! (Laughs)
NK: Badminton is harder than you think.

---Were you worried when you had to come back to Asia from the States?
TY: At first, I had this "Let's see where this takes me" kind of mindset, rather than "Let's do this!" But after I debuted, my mindset had finally changed to "Okay, let's do this till the end!"

---If you weren't in 2PM, then what do you think you'd be doing in Boston right now?
NK: He probably would've turned into a teaching Professor at a university by now.
TY: What the? (Laughs)
NK: At the age of 24.
TY: I'm not THAT intelligent! But even so, I really liked studying then, so I probably would have been majoring in history at a university by now. And who knows, maybe I decided to become an expert in World History..
NK: I can't even remember what I was doing back then. But still, I do remember that I wanted to be a pianist..

---Memories during your trainee days?
NK: I had to wake Taecyeon up every single morning. (Laughs) He still had to finish high school in Korea, so he had to set his alarm to 7 o'clock in the morning because of that, but he never wakes up. From what I remember, his alarm song was "Singin' in the Rain."
TY: Tarararara~ (Starts singing)
NK: I would always be shouting "Taecyeon, Taecyeon," but since he never wakes up, I'd be the one who shuts his alarm off. Every single morning!
TY: I'm not a morning person.

---When did you started feeling close?
NK: I think we got close right away.
TY: We didn't have any arguments, not even once. (Laughs)
NK: Though no doubt, we did have small things where we weren't satisfied with each other, but there was never a situation where we'd fight or say things like "I hate you!"
TY: That's right.

---If you were to give an example?
NK: Eum.. for example, maybe when we're discussing dancing.

---Only things like that?
NK: We'd discuss it until we change and fix ourselves for the better. Also at times when we felt like we had done well, but still feel certain insecurities, too.
TY: Ahahaha. But he's the most strict when it comes to cleaning your room. He also say things like "Shush, be quiet" a lot.
NK: That's right, that's right.
TY: Come to think of it, he's quite strict when it comes to work too. He says things like "Do this properly!" a lot.

"If I were to do this again, I'll work very hard on it."

NK: The moment I arrived in Korea, I had immediately started training (singing and dancing), and I also started attending Korean classes. But aside from that, Taecyeon had always been by my side translating for me.
TY: That's right. We were like "1+1" or something.
NK: "1+1" (Laughs)
TY: We gave off this "Taecyeon sticks to Nichkhun without a fail and Nichkhun also sticks to Taecyeon without a fail as they move around!" kind of feeling to other people. (Laughs)
NK: And because we were like that, people who work at the company warned us that my Korean would not improve if we kept moving around together, speaking English to each other. But still, we kept moving around like that for 3 years. (Laughs) So in the end, the staff would say things like "Stop talking in English!"
TY: At first, the fellow staff would say things like "Taecyeon-ah, thank you for being our translator"... (Laughs)
NK: But then since we stayed like that for 3 years, the staff got mad and would say things like, "Taecyeon! Don't you dare use English with Nichkhun! And stop sticking onto Nichkhun!" instead. (Laughs)
TY:At that time, I'd have this "Huh? Did I do something wrong?" kind of feeling. (Laughs)

---If given the chance to go back to your past and try to do that one thing properly once again, what would that be?
NK: I'd work even harder. On dancing, singing, learning Korean..... everything.
TY: (Deeply nods)
NK: Because then, we still wouldn't know what kind of job we'd do in the future.
TY: I also think that I'd work even harder. Back then, if there was a new dance or song, then we'd practice just that for a month and then we'd have a test. In other words, I'd learn just one new dance every month. But these days, we have this mindset that we'd be in trouble if we can't master the steps in just a few days. Because we'll also be showing it on TV too. It's like we have to finish everything in time no matter what. And then by the end of the month, we'd feel really at ease as we exclaim, "We still have a month left!"

---Traits that have changed and haven't changed at all from each other?
NK: Taecyeon's intelligence hasn't changed at all. And as for the change, I think his body got bigger.
TY: Because I didn't exercise at all back then.
NK: But still, his height was the same as now. He has really matured a lot from then and acts much more professionally. I think he's still on the way of maturing, even now. I don't mean this as in like talking wisely or something along those lines, I mean as in he knows what he has to do for this job. He can even wake up at 7 in the morning now. (Laughs)
TY: Though waking up early is not a problem these days, the real problem now is whether I can continue staying up after that. (Laughs) The fact that Nichkhun is nice and honest to everyone hasn't changed. And what has changed is he carries more self-confidence these days and knows exactly what he's doing. His Korean has also improved a lot. (Laughs)

---Since Taecyeon grew up in the States, wouldn't you have forgotten your Korean by then?
TY: There are times where I'd get confused. Because my Korean level is only of an elementary school student.. and then suddenly I had to move back to Korea so I was clueless about a lot of words. Though not as clueless as Nichkhun was. (Laughs)

---Are you still learning Japanese, even now?
NK: He can already speak Japanese comfortably, but as for me, I'm not up to that level yet.
TY: Before we came to Japan, we were told that "If you can't speak Japanese, then there'll be a big gap between you and your fans." So because of that, we got really worried and started to work hard on learning Japanese. We're still learning even now!

---The hardest thing you've experienced during your time working in Japan?
TY: Though it's not to the point where it'll be a big problem to us, there was quite the difference in terms of culture, so we were pretty culture shocked.
NK: That's right, we were.
TY: Come to think of it, Korea, America, and Japan, each of them are really different.
NK: Each of them has a different feeling. In America, the working culture is quite carefree and people don't pay attention to you as much. While in Korea, it's completely the opposite and they're extremely detailed.
TY: I guess you could say they're very serious about details? And also about every little things.
NK: When we came to Japan, the fact that everybody was extremely punctual really surprised us, though it's actually a very good habit in reality. And also, the fact that you must definitely introduce yourself properly and that they're much more detailed. (Laughs)
TY: That's right. They're up another floor more detailed than us. (Laughs) Regardless of cultures, I don't think they've just been created now. Instead, I think it was already like this since a long time ago. The same goes for Korea, Japan, and America. As we experience each of these differences, we'd always try to match with it and move on.
NK: There are a lot of differences that can't be explained through words. We can't really list exactly what the differences are that we've experienced, but one thing for sure is there is a clear and obvious difference.

"Thoughts about family and future goals."

---Do you invite your family to each of your concerts in every country?
TY: Our family would be the very first.
NK: My family has become my personal motivation to keep on going.
TY: Every time our families come to our concert, we would have dinner with them by ourselves.
NK: And also, Taecyeon's parents would always be translating for my parents. (Laughs) Regardless of the generation, the same situation applies even to our parents.

---Have you thought of what kind of family you'd want to have?
TY: Yes..? I've never thought that far. (Laughs) Let me think for a moment.. (Seriously ponders for a long while) Well firstly, Khun has a rather large family and a very strong bond between the siblings. So I thought if I were to build a family, then wouldn't the best family conditions be a lot of children while they have a close bond with each other?
NK: There's a possibility that my future wife will be intimidated by the number of members in my family. Because if we were to have a gathering, the number of people could easily pass over 50, so she might be shocked. If my future wife can adapt herself to this situation and everybody accepts her, then I think it's impossible to let her go.

---How about Taecyeon?
NK: Taecyeon still thinks that he can only be with a woman who can manage herself well. A woman who can manage herself, a good mother, and also a good cook. Even though Taecyeon is also a good cook himself...
Moreover, she has to take care of him too. Because he can't even handle his own business that well. (Laughs) I think a woman who can still care for him even though he starts doing something else instead of finishing his work, is good for him.

---I think both of you have challenged acting by now. Nichkhun had appeared in a Thai movie titled "Seven Something."
NK: It was a very meaningful experience for me, considering I really do want to continue on acting. But at that time, I was lacking time to prepare and practice my acting skills to film for that movie. And I couldn't even meet the fellow actors before filming for the movie either. So it was extremely awkward for me at first. I think everything went well because my fellow female partner was much more experienced and older than me, but.. since I've begun to improve myself too, I think the filming ended quite quickly every time because of this.

---Taecyeon also appeared in the Japanese drama "99 Days With a Star."
TY: I am planning on pursuing acting in the future. Although I do want to appear on different movies or dramas every year, since 2PM was busy with schedules in 2012, I don't think it's possible to reach that goal for now.

---What's the difference between acting and singing to each of you?
TY: Instead of saying that I'm a singer or I'm a dancer, I think I feel more like an entertainer who's expanding his turf. Everything is considered entertainment to me.
NK: Though there are certain things that I like about singing, dancing and standing in front of thousands of people, acting is not as comfortable. There's only me and a camera, and yet I already find it difficult to be at ease. So I think there's nothing else I can do other than just keep doing this until I can feel that I am "right here," at this new place.

---What will you be in 10 years time?
NK: I'll be 34 years old. Will I be married by then?
TY: I don't think I will ever get married. Back then, I was thinking of marrying at a young age, but it's clearly impossible now. I'm always busy with work.
NK: That's right.
TY: I'm also having fun with work.

---Will you do activities in Asia? Or maybe globally?
TY: Globally would be nice, but I think continuing to promote ourselves in Asia is our true thing. I think experiencing different cultures along the way will be quite nice as well.
NK: I think we're all really close with each other right now, and we are all the same human beings who probably want to stay together as long as we can.

---How about 20 years from now?
NK: I'll be 44 years old. If I already have a family by then, I'd want to invest some time to my family and children. And who knows, maybe I would open a cafe or restaurant in Thailand. I think I'm already on my way to happiness.
TY: After I went to Africa (for a TV program) together with Nichkhun and came back, I was thinking of doing some more international collaboration activities or worldwide development activities.

---Will you still be friends after 10, 20 years have passed?
TY: Of course!
NK: I think we'd probably gather each of our families and go on trips together.
TY: Ahahaha!
NK: I've imagined the scene of introducing each of our family members to each other as we say things like, "This is my son!" "It's Uncle Taecyeon!" (Laughs)
