All the three land broadcasting company dramas have their eyes on the throne now that "The Greatest Love" is over. "The Greatest Love" was a big issue but other dramas behind it are also vigorous.

The follow up of "The Greatest Love" is MBC "Heartstrings" which is about the love and friendship of the characters who love music and arts. The cast includes Jeong Yong-hwa, Park Sin-hye and more with star producer Pyo Min-soo. It should also receive the after effects of "The Greatest Love" for a while which might increase the popularity quickly.

SBS "City Hunter" is also a very likely nominee for the throne. Its rate wasn't much different from that of"The Greatest Love". Lee Min-ho and Park Min-yeong play a big role in promoting the drama and the layout of the story is also winning it favors. It is very likely that "City Hunter" might take the place of"The Greatest Love".

"Romance Town" with Seong Yoo-ri is also eyeing for the increase in rate. Its firm cast and story layout shows potential for it to step over into the high level.

It's confirmed that Taiwan is shooting their TV version of Japanese manga "Absolute Boyfriend," a love story between robot and human, and the leads are Wu Zun, popular member in group Fahrenheit, and Goo Hye Sun, South Korean actress better known from the K-version of "Boys Over Flowers."

Yesterday the two idols met each other for the first time in the press event for their new drama. Perhaps into his character already, Wu Zun was "behaving like a robot" in contrast to Goo's frank personality. Wu Zun wanted to give a good impression since it was his first time working with a Korean actress. But he was so polite that he even asked Goo's translator shyly "Can I put my hand on her shoulder?" when reporters requested the pair to stand a little closer.

Nudity is something pretty much everyone is concerned about [In 'Absolute Boyfriend,' there are scenes where the robot Nighto appears topless, even naked. Of course, the important part is covered!]. After watching the Japanese version of the drama, Goo immediately went to search explicit photos of Wu Zun that had been taken in the past, and she is very satisfied. "He has a good body, plus he is handsome," the actress praised. "And I'm very excited to see scenes of him going naked." That scared Wu Zun and he told her she doesn't have to answer questions like that.

KBS drama ‘Sung Gyun Gwan Scandal’ became a hot topic as idol group DBSK Micky Yoochun’s debut into acting.

He became the center of attention for his role as the lead, Lee Sun Joon, and many were interested to see what kind of acting he would show.

But despite this kind of burden, Micky Yoochun digested his aloof character that has wealth, looks, and intelligence with his own unique color. Not only did he avoid going through a ‘foot acting’ critique, but he is also flawlessly performing in an old-time drama, in which delivering the lines is known to be difficult.

As idol stars are beginning to transform into actors, critiques of their acting ability are hot on their trails. But the number of idols who, like Micky Yoochun, are taking the high road with their surprising acting ability is far from few.

The hit drama ‘Cinderella’s Sister’ from the beginning of this year was a debut project for another idol star. And that is 2PM’s Ok Taecyeon.

Though his role was small compared to that of his co-stars Moon Geun Young, Chun Jung Myoung, and Seo Woo, he showed great potential as an actor by taking on the Kyung Sang Do dialect, which even seasoned actors have a hard time doing, and digesting the tender character of Jung Woo.

Big Bang’s TOP/Choi Seung Hyun, who made his acting debut in 2007 in the drama ‘I Am Sam,’ took on the challenge of big screen acting for the first time through Into the Gunfire. Choi Seung Hyun, who was given the role of rebellious Chae Mu Shin in ‘I Am Sam,’ made a name for himself with his forceful gaze. In the movie Into the Gunfire, he displayed a force that was not pushed aside by acting veterans Cha Seung Won, Kim Seung Woo, and Kwon Sang Woo, and has come up as the star to watch at this year’s Chung Mu Ro film festival.

As fans or viewers, it is no doubt welcome news to hear that talented idol stars are venturing out not only in singing but also in acting. But we anticipate more idol stars that will land on the path of acting through much preparation and deliberate decision-making, and thus will not get caught up in ‘foot acting’ critiques.

Jang Geun-seok AND Moon Geun-young AND Kim Jae-wook, together in a love triangle?? Where are you, November?

Mary Stayed Out All Night is the manhwa-adapted KBS drama that gets the heroine tangled up in not one but TWO contract marriages. Writing is In Eun-ah (Goong); directing is Hong Seok-gu (Kyung-sook, Kyung-sook’s Father).

Kim’s Jung-in character is a “perfect” guy with the kdrama triple threat of brains, beauty, and money, with whom Mary has been betrothed since childhood. Complications arise when she meets Mu-gyul, Jang Geun-seok’s free-spirited hippie/indie rock singer character. Yes, Kim is technically the second lead, but I’m expecting this to be an epic love triangle — at least I hope so. (The best love triangles are the ones that give me the most trouble deciding who to root for, because I like that angst to be as organic as possible.)
Kim Jae-wook made an impression with his pretty face in 2007′s Coffee Prince as “Waffle Sun-ki,” but has been, in my mind, just another beautiful celeb who had yet to prove any acting talent. That was until he took on the nuanced, volatile, and vulnerable character of the damaged chaebol in this year’s Bad Guy, and knocked that role out of the park. I was thrilled to see him break out and show real charisma and acting talent, which may have not been polished but was all the more compelling for its raw intensity.
I can’t WAIT to see this drama now!

Mary Stayed Out All Night airs in KBS’s Monday-Tuesday slot following Sungkyunkwan Scandal, and premieres November 8.

Tensions seem to be increasing between the Korean Broadcasting, Film, Performing Artists Union and MBC as the two sides continue negotiations regarding the strike that is endangering the futures of several MBC dramas.

The matter centers around unpaid wages to the cast and crew of dramas being made by outside production companies. KBS and SBS came to settlements with the union, which spared their productions the threat of strike by their cast and crew members. However, MBC has yet to come to such an agreement.

After a day of interrupted filming when its cast stood by the union stance and refused to participate, weekend drama Gloria is back to work.

However, Dong Yi has been unable to film for four days now, and it remains unclear whether they will be able to air any episodes this week. The drama has not completed filming for the episodes scheduled to air on Monday and Tuesday, so it is likely that there will NOT be new episodes, and MBC is scrambling to find a Plan B. This drama has been filming in live-shoot for a while now and has no extra time to spare, so this delay has a pretty immediate effect on the production.

The union expressed frustration with MBC, whose behavior it has called arrogant, saying that it is finding it difficult to come to an agreement with the broadcaster. Despite working through the weekend to hold talks, the sides are at an impasse and “it’s as difficult as ever to negotiate our points of view.”

One of the union’s reps stated that they have been lenient, and offered to settle if they could at least pay Dong Yi‘s outstanding wages through July rather than the full amount to date, but MBC is talking in circles and being disingenuous. (Dong Yi alone is responsible for 690 million won in unpaid wages, or almost $590,000.)

On the other hand, a rep from MBC’s drama department took a more cautious line (of course), saying that it’s not clear whether the broadcast will be delayed, and that they’re doing their best to negotiate in order to mitigate any negative effects on the broadcast.

Meanwhile, weekend drama Kim Suro has also stopped filming. The union plans to talk to the cast of Playful Kiss next to get them onboard with the union stance in refusing to film until the unpaid wage issue is solved.

"Bread, Love and Dreams" continued to command the primetime lineup on Wednesday and Thursday night with high viewership ratings.

Data from TNmS (Total National Multimedia Statistics) on Friday reported that "Bread," into its final four episodes, scored a viewership rating of 44.7 percent on September 1, while soaring to 48.4 percent on last night's episode, indicating that the show may soon breach the 50 percent mark.

This week's episode focused on how both Tak-koo (Yoon Si-yoon) and Ma-joon (Joo Won) went out on a mission in developing a new product.

SBS' series "My Girlfriend is Gumiho," starring Lee Seung-gi and Shin Min-ah, held onto its position as the No. 2 show, maintaining ratings in the 11 to low-14 percent range on both charts.

The spy-action drama “IRIS Season 2 - Athena: Goddess of War,” in which actor Jung Woo sung and actress Soo Ae will appear as the male and female protagonists, will be broadcast from this coming winter in December on SBS. The drama is a spin-off of the original “IRIS” drama and it is based on the original story of the KBS drama “IRIS,“ which had aired last year on KBS. “Athena: Goddess of War” is very similar to the original “IRIS” as the production company Taewon Entertainment, which had produced “IRIS,” will also produce this drama, and it has been equipped with an all-star cast and large-scale action and melodramatic storyline. But the backdrop of the drama has been expanded from the Korean peninsula and Asian countries into the whole world, and the relationships among cast members have become more complicated.

“Athena: Goddess of War” will depict espionage activities of members of the National anti-Terror Service (NTS), the same organization in “IRIS,” fighting against the secret organization named “Athena” concerning the new energy source “TWR.” The drama has become a hot topic as actors who used to appear in movies, such as Jung Woo Sung, Cha Seung Won, and Soo Ae, have been cast as the main protagonists, and it already has begun filming from last June in six different countries including Italy and Japan.

In the preview, which was released in the showcase event held at the Garden stage in Lotte World on August 30, the scenes depicting an explosion and gunfight, which reminded viewers of action movies, filmed in Italy were unveiled to the viewers.

Actor Jung Woo Sung will make a comeback to the small screen after a fifteen-year break since his dramas “1.5” and “Asphalt Man” in 1995. He will play the elite special agent named Lee Jung Woo who will confront the huge shadowy conspiracy. Jung Woo has been transferred from the National Intelligence Service to the NTS, which is the special organization preventing any crisis with international undertakings, as he had been recognized for his excellent strategic performance during his work. At NTS, he meets his former colleague Yoon Hye In (Soo Ae), whom he once loved, and becomes confused after finding out that Hye In had been involved in a secret organization within NTS. In the showcase, Jung Woo Sung said, “In this drama, I have to present both a love story and an action performance. While I had been searching for my next work, I had been informed that this drama was under planning, so I willingly decided to appear in this drama because I thought that it would be a good opportunity to participate in producing a good drama.”

Actor Cha Seung Won will play the heartless character Sohn Hyuk, the head of the branch office of the United States Department of Homeland Security in East Asia, and he also leads the secret organization “Athena,” and confronts Jung Woo Sung in the drama. Cha Seung Won said, “The role that I play is a so-called villain who forms an alignment with a third force to hatch a wicked plot. But as the story of the drama develops, the character will be changed dramatically. This drama is a spy action drama like “IRIS,” but it will contain more various scenes to enjoy watching and it will present a more complicated storyline with various characters. It is not just a simple spy action drama, but a more interesting and exciting spy action drama.”

Actress Soo Ae has shown her pure and graceful beauty so far, will this time transform into a cold-blooded spy. The character whom she will play is a double agent, Yoon Hye In, who belongs to the National anti-Terror Service (NTS) as a profiler and also takes a role within a secret organization as a special agent. She is a character who locks a secret away in her mind. Soo Ae said, “I really enjoyed watching ‘IRIS.’ I had confidence in performing action scenes, and I received the casting request at an appropriate time.”

Actress Lee Ji Ah will play a special agent, Han Jae Hee, who is a colleague of Yoon Hye In. She hides her feelings of love towards Jung Woo, and has to have an inevitable confrontation with Yoon Hye In. Lee explained about the character, whom she will play, by saying, “She is a very rational and thorough person when performing her work, but at the same time, she is very honest in expressing her love.” She added, “I worry, as I heard that my action looked too bloody and spiteful, but actually I had taken much care about performing action scenes not to receive an evaluation saying female actor’s action scenes look too weak.”

Actor Kim Min Jong, who will play a former North Korean intelligence agent coming from a rich labor party named Kim Ki Soo, said, “Kim Ki Soo is a very freewheeling character with manly charms and charisma. There was no indication about a North Korean dialect on the script, but I tried to express the language of a North Korean defector while acting.”

Choi Si Won, a member of the idol group Super Junior, will play a rookie NTS agent named Kim Joon Ho. Choi said, “At first, I was very nervous due to pressure, but as other senior actors are taking care of me as if I am their real nephew, I am filming the drama with no more pressure. Other members of Super Junior are very envious of me about acting together with great senior actors.” He was smiling while making his comments.

In addition, singer BoA and actress Lee Bo Young will appear in “Athena: Goddess of War” as guest stars.

A spokesperson for Taewon Entertainment said, “The story is based on the war on energy, which is not an absurd story, but can happen in the real world. We will attract viewers’ eyes with a solid story line reflecting world policy and a grand scale.”

Shin Min Ah left a message on her Me2Day on 30 August, saying “It’s been a while.. It was raining like crazy for a while and we had to spend every second and every minute with much care. We all forgot how to sleep, so much that we wonder when the last time we’ve slept was. Sleepy. Feels like standing in the middle of dream and reality, so to speak…"

Shin Min Ah seemed to be pressed with her schedule without any time to sleep, as she is busy with SBS’s new drama, “My Girlfriend is A Nine-Tailed Fox” (‘Gumiho’). She seemed to be in a situation where she couldn’t even express her fatigue, probably because the filming was delayed due to the rain.

Fans who visited Shin Min Ah’s me2day commented, “cheer up~ we are always here”, “take care while filming”, “it hurts me because you seem to be suffering quite a lot. There will be a good result”, etc, showing their support.

KBS2′s "Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child" is fielding offers from foreign broadcasters interested in buying the rights to the supernatural-fusion-sageuk, that puts a new spin on the mythology of the gumiho. They’re throwing around that hot-ticket word, Hallyu, as hopes ride high on this drama becoming the next international hit.

According to KBS, they’re looking to broadcast the show in Japan, all over Southeast Asia, and even Europe and the States. They’re currently looking into broadcasters and service areas to plan for the worldwide release.

The series started at an 8.7 rating, but steadily grew each week, now pulling in a 15.3 rating (at Episode 12), essentially doubling viewership over the course of its run. It’s become a runaway cult hit, as the show’s homepage exploded with fan support and interest. There’s something so great about a show that starts small, but becomes a fan favorite and grows its own audience.

Praise abounds for the actors, especially for Kim Yoo Jung and Seo Shin Ae (above), who seem born to play these roles. The young girls are stealing the show, as well as they should; their supernatural transformations and the ensuing struggles are the most interesting storylines, as well as requiring an acting range that goes beyond cute and innocent. They stand toe-to-toe with adult actors, even with their complex characters, and people are taking notice.

In a saturated market full of trendies, action-adventures, and traditional sageuks, "Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child" is standing out precisely because of its unique genre and distinct Koreanness, in its mythology.

It’s interesting that the old-school horror genre is getting a revival in series like this one, and that such a mythology-heavy show is garnering interest from foreign distributors. I generally like the feel of a low-budget horror or supernatural show, because there’s a certain nostalgic charm about it, and there’s something more interesting to me about an engaging story and mythos that can transcend the lack of glossy, high-budget sheen.

"Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child" isn’t one that I’ve kept up with once other series took up my attention, but it’s definitely one I want to go back to, as it’s got a stellar cast and an interesting take on the lore.

How much importance will U-Kiss have in SBS drama 'I Am Legend'?

U-Kiss members Dongho (drums), Kevin (guitar), Soohyun (vocal), Kiseop (bass), Kibum (keyboard) will be starring as the idol group Kiss Band that is discovered by a music company manager Kang Sooin (Jang Shinyoung) in 'I Am Legend'. Kibum has already starred in the Thai drama 'The Horizon Under the Same Sun' alongside member Eli, but for the other members, this is their first time acting. Because of this, the interest in how much they will be appearing has been gathering.

A NH Media representative stated, "Their importance itself isn't big. The plan is to show a little bit of them playing in the latter half of the drama", "Because they won't be appearing a lot, the burden about acting isn't very big. However, to show the image of a rock band, they are practicing very hard with indie band Wiretap in My Ear". He continued, "The members are pulling through with a busy schedule with both preparations for their next album and the drama. They will be able to show everyone a good image".

U-Kiss is expecting to make a come back in September.

A goodnight kiss, to be exact. Daniel Henney plays the gentle protector to Lee Na Young in the upcoming action drama Runaway, which is a character type I’ve nicknamed “The Bae Soo-bin” in my mind. Then again, it’s a familiar role for Henney as well, so maybe I should just call it The Henney.

In the drama, his character is a wealthy shipping magnate named Kai who loves Jin Yi (Lee). She in turn deliberately approaches Ji Woo (Rain) for her own goals, which remain a mystery to us.

In this scene, Kai gives Jin Yi a “loving kiss” on the forehead, although reportedly the two actors stood back and traded embarrassed laughs as as soon as the “cut” notice was given by the director.

This is Lee Na-young’s first drama in six years, ever since Ireland in 2004. Daniel Henney’s last K-drama was 2006′s Spring Waltz. Both have done movies in the interim, such as Sad Dream and Dad Likes Women in her case, and My Father and X-Men Origins: Wolverine in his.

Runaway is a romantic-comedy action series created by the PD and writer of Chuno, and will air on KBS in September.

UEE was supposed to debut in her first starring role this summer. But summer’s going by and Birdie Buddy is nowhere to be found. Looks like Group 8′s playing favorites, and Birdie Buddy is coming up with the short straw. It’s been six months since production began on the drama, but it hasn’t quite found its direction, and the production is continuing to go adrift.

Birdie Buddy, starring UEE, Lee Da-hee, and Lee Yong-woo, drew some interest after its initial press conference in February, and has been in production for the past six months. The show has been plagued with problems from the get-go, but seemed to be moving along. Stills are being released, as all productions do, but since entering principal photography four months ago, they have yet to produce any substantial footage.

The show reportedly only has the equivalent of seven episodes in the can, which if you’re familiar with the Korean production system, is ridiculously under par. Most 20-episode dramas complete all of principal photography AND air its complete run in six months’ time. Only the most big-budget productions spend a few extra months shooting in advance, and even then, the shooting ratio is nowhere near as slow because there are large action sequences to be covered.

It looks like the budget is a problem, although production house Group 8 is releasing announcements that things are fine. It’s not hard to see that they’re focusing more of their efforts on Playful Kiss, which already has a broadcaster (MBC) and an air date, and is set to be their next Boys Before Flowers.

Idol group U-Kiss's members will debut as actors.

According to SBS drama 'I Am Legend' producer A Story on the 27th, U-Kiss will star as a five-member rock band 'Kiss Band' who have been discovered by a manager Kang SooIn (Jang ShinYoung).

U-Kiss is a 7-member international idol group composed of Alexander, Kevin, Eli, KiBum, SooHyun, DongHo, and KiSeop. They have been receiving hot love from nuna fans by starring in various variety programs such as 'Invincible Saturday' and 'Star King'.

Before debuting, U-Kiss had the experience of preparing to be both an idol group and a band. In this drama, DongHo (drums), Kevin (guitar), SooHyun (vocalist), KiSeop (bass), and KiBum (keyboard) were cast. The name of the band that the five members make up will be 'Kiss Band'.

According to the staff, the U-Kiss members are firmly determined to do well in the drama. They have invited indie rock band 'Wiretap in My Ear' as their teachers to learn about rock music, and they have been practicing acting and rock music 24 hours a day, giving it their all.

A representative of A Story stated, "The drama 'I Am Legend' is about women in their 30s starting a rock band. With the addition of U-Kiss, who are popular with teens, we have been able to connect the generations between people in their teens and 30s."

'I Am Legend' will be directed by Kim HyungShik, who also directed the dramas 'Surgeon Bong Dal Hee' and 'Cain & Abel'. The drama stars Kim JungEun, Hong JiMin, Jang ShinYoung, Juni, and Kim SeungSu, and will have its first broadcast on the 2nd of next month.
