Netizens love to compare. It's not an assumption but a fact.

A post comparing YG artists' and SM artists' airport fashion has started when the idols recently appeared together at the airport.

Apparently, there was really something distinct to differentiate when the big groups of both agencies appeared on exactly opposite airport fashion.

To point it out, YG artists like 2NE1 and BIG BANG appeared very stylish and fashionable wearing the latest get ups and mostly rather unique. However, SM's Super Junior and SNSD preferred more comfortable and casual clothes but still looked in style.

As for the ladies, it's versus "Sexy and Innocent". 2NE1 girls chose to be sexy while SNSD girls appeared innocent. In particular, Park Bom is wearing shorts and black top that emphasized her curvy body and CL wore a sexy and sophisticated black slit dress. In contrary, Yoona and Seohyun wore comfortable dresses while Yuri enjoyed her simple t-shirt and white khaki pants.

As for the gentlemen, it's very obvious how they were able to carry their agencies' unique trademark when it comes to airport fashion. G-Dragon, who is known for his one of a kind sense of fashion, mixed and matched accessories and clothes to appear stylish and attractive. Same goes with Taeyang, who is rather a head turner with his over-sized white t-shirt with a sort of white "skirt" underneath. On the other hand, Super Junior's Donghae and Kangin didn't even bother to accessorize themselves and hit the airport on their most comfortable and neat look. Wearing simple white sleeveless and white polo shirt, Donghae and Kangin departed for Indonesia that day.

Nevertheless, there's really nothing to battle out. Both agencies have their own styles and loved by media and fans. Whether it doesn't match at all or too comfy for a celebrity's look, they are still being anticipated by fans and especially by media who were always present and claimed it's "worth the wait", just to see artists' 'airport fashion' so that we can have something to talk about.

After 2NE1 leader's solo debut, the group is expected to have their comeback in June.

On May 30, an official confirmed that a popular foreign choreographer secretly visited YGE days ago to work on the choreography of 2NE1's comeback song. As a matter of fact, CL, who just released her solo single on 28th, is already rehearsing the new choreography along with other members despite her busy schedule.

YG representative said, 'The choreographer who is working on the choreography of 2NE1's new song is a famous choreographer in Japan. They are working hard to show a different dance so please anticipate."

At the time of 2NE1's 4th anniversary on May 17, YG released a mysterious photo with a caption 'Are You Ready?', and confirmed that it hints 2NE1's upcoming comeback.

The official added, 'Actually even the people inside the agency don't know the exact date of the comeback, but the information about the foreign choreographer is true."

YG's birthday poster for Taeyang teases his approaching comeback.

On May 18, YG uploaded a comic-strip type poster to greet Taeyang for his birthday. Other than a warm greeting, the poster also hints Taeyang's comeback as they wrote, "Are You Ready!" along with expression "Grrrrr..." which suggests that he is impatiently waiting for his come back.

In connection with this, Taeyang already teased his fans with his recent tweet, "Being on stage makes me want to put my music already...most of my songs are done... now only if @IBGDRGN would finish his songs for me :) Jiyong ah?"

Are you ready for Taeyang's comeback?

Recently, there was a post on popular website with the title: "YG's self-service canteen, where Big Bang came regularly" , drawing much attention.

These images were captured from the latest episode of SBS's K-pop Star when Kpop Star's contestants were enjoying their meals. This restaurant is in the basement of YG building. YG artists such as Big Bang and Se7en mentioned it many times on television in the past. They complimented its good quality of services and products offered right in the company.

In 2010, YG's president Yang Hyun Suk said in an interview, "Because it was difficult that the artist had to walk to the store to buy food, I recruited the 4 best chefs I knew to serve all members of the YG."

Netizens commented, "YG's restaurant is luxurious", "Look like a buffet dinner" and "YG's artists are so lucky. They always have good meals with adequate nutrition.", ...

YG Entertainment opened their online shop in China today.

YG plans to sell Psy, 2NE1, Big Bang and other YG artists merchandise as well as albums, DVDs, photo books and more. They have sold their merchandise in China before, but this is the first to open their own online store in China.

YG decided to open an online store because of the increasing popularity of YG artists in China. They also considered the fact that it was harder for fans in China to purchase YG merchandise as well.

YG commented, “We hope that ‘YG e-shop_CHINA’ will help stop the purchase of fake merchandise. We are happy to be able to sell our official merchandise to fans in China.”

They also plan to open a weibo account, similar to Twitter, and update with new merchandise for the site. Check out the new of YGeshop page 'here'.

It will be the first time since 2008 that YG Artists will grace the stage as a family unit for the Gayo Daejun. The confirmation of attendance of these YG artists minus PSY who is busy with US activities adds more meaning to the event.

Big Bang, 2NE1, Epik High, and Lee Hi are the major players that have helped establish YG syndrome from the beginning of the year with their continuous streaks of all kills and number one spots on the music charts. Top idol group Big Bang, who has been busy with their global tour has been unable to appear on programs for some time. The announcement of their appearance has peaked the interest in many fans for the Gayo Daejun show.

Also, the MBC is planning to offer a block of their show for a joint stage of YG family groups Big Bang and 2NE1. These stages are expected to carry the famous YG Family concert feel which will surely attract viewers...

In addition, viewers can look forward to a performance by Lee Hi who has topped the charts at number 1 for 14 consecutive weeks."

[NOTE] Osen reports that All of YG Family (except for PSY) will perform at MBC Gayo Daejun on the 31st December 2012.

The articles released are actually focusing on how YGE’s market shares and profit have increased in the year. They said that the growth rate will be at 30%-40% for next year, which is more than pretty good. The article talked about YGE’s plans for next year, though it sounds like a summary of expectations and plans only, and not anything concrete. Well, we all know about YG by now, and know that nothing is set in stone. But here’s what the article says:

“In the first half of next year, YG is expected to debut its new rookie group; Big Bang is also scheduled for a comeback next fall. YG is also expected to expand its lineup with the girl group that they are also planning to debut next year, four years after the debut of their successful girl group, 2NE1. Psy is also expected to release an album in the US, maybe February or March of next year, and also a world tour. He will continue to do his highly successful local concerts also. In summer of next year, the YG Family Concert tour and 2NE1′s Concert tour are also scheduled. Former Mnet ‘Superstar K2′ contestant Kang Seung Yoon will also debut next year.“

For all these activities, market consultants and analysts expect a continuing growth for YGE, especially with a lot of activity coming from them in the first half of the year.

YG Entertainment is back with another mysterious teaser! The teaser simply said “12.14 SEND ‘YOU.GREAT” along with a mysterious photo, hinting at something bigger to come.

Viewers were left curious as YG Entertainment has once again provided no details to accompany the teaser. This time too it’s hard to guess what the teaser is supposed to imply. Many speculated it might be for the new albums from Big Bang’s Taeyang or 2NE1.

What could it possibly be? Stay tuned on DKP for more updates.

YG Entertainment was the dominant player on YouTube in Korea for this year.

With 21 days left in 2012, the current records on YouTube indicate that the top three most popular videos from Korea for the year belong to YG’s top artists, Psy and Big Bang.

As of December 10th at 2 PM KST Psy’s viral music video “Gangnam Style” had a staggering 923,582,430 views, putting it in first place. The 2nd place honors went to the spin-off rendition of “Gangnam Style” featuring 4minute's Hyuna, titled “Oppa, You're Just My Style”, trailed significantly behind with 185,157,922 views. Big Bang’s “Fantastic Baby” music video was able to garner 54,495,880 views, enough to place it within the top three..

However, “Gangnam Style” isn’t just number one in Korea. The international hit was acknowledged as the most popular music video in the world. It’s gained quite a following in countries such as the US, France, Australia, the UK, etc. The video “Oppa, You’re Just My Style” was actually Psy’s way of showing his appreciation to his fans, featuring Hyuna who also danced alongside the rapper in the original video.

As for Big Bang, various other videos from their releases this year made it into the top 10 YouTube videos from Korea: “Blue”, “Bad Boy” and “Monster” placing 3rd, 6th, and 9th, respectively.

Alongside these videos, f(x)’s “Electric Shock” music video, TaeTiSeo’s “Twinkle” video, Hyuna’s “Ice Cream” and 2NE1’s “I Love You” also were honored within the top 10 ranking.

The announcement two weeks ago of YG Entertainment collaborating with Cheil Industries on a fashion joint venture created a buzz.

It was an unprecedented tie-up between one of the major arms of Samsung Group and Korea’s second-largest entertainment agency. Analysts were quick to point out that Lee Seo-hyun, second daughter of Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, leads the luxury goods and fashion division of the affiliate.

That day, YG’s share price jumped 5.1 percent.
YG and Cheil will establish a joint venture to roll out a fashion brand next year that targets the global market, said the press release from both companies on June 29. They have yet to decide on further details such as the size of the joint venture, brand name or concept.

“Fashion and music are inseparable,” said a spokesman for Cheil Industries. “Singers are supposed to be fashionable and some fashion brands originate from musical genres such as hip-hop. We have been in a close business relationship thus far with YG, using its artists such as T.O.P. and G-Dragon from the boy band Big Bang as models for some of our brands. Although we could have chosen SM Entertainment and JYP [for the joint venture], we opted for YG because we highly appreciate its creative power.”

The spokesman stressed that the partnership won’t take advantage of the popularity of YG artists.

“It’s a deal to merge our strength in fashion and YG’s leadership in youth culture,” he said
.
“Samsung seems convinced of YG’s competence as a creative content provider,” said Jin Hong-goock, an analyst with Hyundai Securities. “For YG, there is nothing to lose from a business tie-up with Cheil - whether it gets involved in the design or its artists model the goods. If the clothes from the joint venture sell well, the profits will go to YG, and even if they don’t, YG won’t need to pay for the loss.”

Last Friday, YG went so far as to announce a sponsorship from global tech giant Samsung Electronics. BigBang is having a year-long global concert tour of 25 cities from Asia to the Americas and Europe under the “Bigbang Alive Galaxy Tour 2012” title.

This is the first time a tour of a K-pop singer or band will include the name of a product from Samsung. The product is Galaxy, the flagship brand of Samsung’s smart mobile products, including smartphones and tablet PCs that account for more than 70 percent of Samsung Electronic’s profit.

An industry source who spoke under the condition of anonymity said YG probably received several billion won from Samsung.

“We think the sponsorship was an opportunity for both Galaxy and BigBang to effectively promote the brands,” said a Samsung spokesman. “That the event combines smartphones and music, the key elements of life for the younger generation around the world, makes a crucial point.”

YG was established in 1996 by Yang Hyun-suk, one of three members of the popular 1990s trio, Seo Taiji & Boys. With hip hop as its musical identity, the Mapo, western Seoul-based agency has produced and managed dozens of entertainers including musicians such as Big Bang, 2NE1, Se7en and Psy, and actresses like Kang Hye-jung, the tortured heroine in Park Chan-wook’s 2003 incest-themed film “Old Boy.”

Thanks to its internal culture, which is reputed to appreciate the free spirit and personality of their artists more than its rival firms, YG’s entertainers aren’t caught in the typical K-pop mold of being sexy or cute. They have emerged as icons of unique and trendy styles.

“YG has been getting obvious attention in overseas markets including Japan on the back of its strong lineup of competent artists,” said Chung Woo-chul, an analyst with Mirae Asset Securities.

For instance, 2NE1, the four-member girl group, has been receiving stage outfit support from U.S. fashion designer Jeremy Scott, while will.i.am of American band the Black Eyed Peas has served as their musical patron, producing and composing some of their works.

An entertainment agency going corporate as such is rare in this country. Most of the profitable businesses of entertainment companies, aside from their talent, is in fields like restaurants and cafe franchises.

JYP, with girl groups such as Wonder Girls and Miss A, has been running a Korean restaurant in Manhattan since March. SM Entertainment in April formed a joint restaurant venture, SM Kraze, with burger chain Kraze International. Formerly known as sidus HQ, iHQ, which manages actress Han Ye-seul and actor Jo In-sung, established a strategic partnership with cafe chain Caffe Bene in 2008, contributing to its massive expansion across the country.

YG is outspoken about its open-mindedness about business opportunities. “We are pretty much open to every industrial field for synergy and we always pursue something new,” said a spokeswoman for YG.

With nearly 200 employees, a four-fold increase from the end of 2009, the firm listed on the Kosdaq in November last year. Yang is the top shareholder with a 36 percent stake in the firm, which has a market capitalization of 491.2 billion won ($427 million). Its share price has surged 40 percent in the past eight months to close at 47,600 won last Friday.
With YG’s entry into the Kosdaq, all of Korea’s top three agencies are now listed on the secondary stock market, increasingly luring investors’ attention to the so-called entertainment category and giving birth to analysts specializing in that field.

SM Entertainment, the nation’s largest, manages Girls’ Generation, Super Junior and F(x). Listed in 2000, it became the first company in the industry to be listed on the market. It ranks seventh on the Kosdaq in terms of market cap at 1.04 trillion won. No. 3 player JYP has a market cap of 106.5 billion won and was listed on the Kosdaq in late 2010. YG also opened a store on eBay Korea earlier in June to sell CDs as well as souvenirs including photo books, T-shirts and cell phone accessories representing YG and its artists. Last year the agency launched a joint record label with Avex Group, Japan’s leading entertainment firm, and set up YG Asia, an Asian headquarters in Hong Kong.

A month ago, YG started a joint project with Hyundai Card, Korea’s second-largest credit card issuer, which has gained a reputation as an icon of hipness and creativity due to a series of cultural projects it has brought to Korea in recent years. They include Hyundai Card Super Concert series, which has invited a slew of top-notch musicians ranging from Sting to Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga and Eminem, who is set to perform in Seoul on Aug. 19.

Through a project dubbed “Re-Monster, ” YG aims to discover talented yet obscure musicians. They will submit their own interpretation of Big Bang’s latest single “Monster,” and YG’s key music producers, and will introduce those covers on Hyundai Card’s Music, a Web site for music.

On the 8th of July, 2ne1 had their much awaited comeback stage at SBS "Inkigayo" and their stage was nothing but spectacular and one of a kind. The girls performed an intro and their new single "I Love You", However not all was good with their comeback stage as some viewers felt that it was animal cruelty when they used a live parrot which was perched on CL on their intro performance.

Due to this, YG Entertainment issued their apology and said, "We are sorry for causing discomfort to our viewers for using live animal's on 2ne1's comeback stage. Before the performance, we consulted animal trainers and experts and went on with the performance with their permission and guidance. We were thinking of giving a good performance but we are sorry for causing worries and discomfort to our viewers. We will be more careful in the future."

What do you think? Was it animal cruelty or are some just blowing it out of proportions?

UPDATES AS OF MAY 31, 2012:
- Domestic Sales of Special Edition Still Alive: 130,000
- Release of Special Edition (Monster) in Japan in June
- Additional dome concerts in November and December: 250,000 attendees expected
- Southeast Asia tour in second half of 2012. Concerts will also be held in China, the US, South America and Europe.
- Big Bang closing show or YG Family Concert in December
- G-Dragon's album release and domestic concerts in August
- T.O.P's ongoing movie filming

Recommendation for YGE's stock: BUY

(BUY = the company's stock is expected to give a return of +15% or more.)

Reasons for "BUY" Rating for YGE:
1. Increased promotions in Japan to contribute to higher revenue from royalties.
2. Expectations for new groups growing.
3. YG plans to strengthen its other business segments backed by the brand power of its artists, such as Big Bang, 2NE1 and Psy.

Notes:
- Royalty revenue was less than expected as YG signed a contract with AVEX in second half of 2011. Earnings will be booked two to five months after the settlement period.
- Operating profit dropped 15.3% due to large production expenses and labor costs related to Big Bang’s fifth album, Alive, released in February. BUT earnings should improve in the 2nd quarter of 2012 when revenue from YG Family Concert in Japan, Big Bang, 2NE1 and Se7en's albums will be reflected.
