When three different people with different stories meet,
they head towards their only destination, the sea (bada).

-Let's go on a trip to yourself
Blinded Taeseong, who can only see the world through his heart goes on a trip alone one day. However he is hit by a car, which infuriated Jini was driving in.
Surprised, Jini insists to take Taeseong to the hospital but for some reason Taeseong refuses, and only asks her to take him to his destination.
And Suhui, who jumps out of the road of Taeseong and Jini!
Suhui, a heavy boxer, attempts of suicide but is fortunately saved by the two and joins their trip.
Coincidental meeting, and the fateful fact that all three has never been to the sea (bada).

Their trip to bada,
somewhat imperfect but beautiful,
starts now!

-BADA as seen at 2010 JEONJU INT'L FILM FESTIVAL (review by HYEON Solip)

Heavy boxer Suhui (KO Suhui) is unhappy about her fat appearance. Twenty-year-old Taeseong (JEON Jihwan) is a surprisingly talented artist despite his blindness. Jini (KIM Jini) can't dare to tell her boyfriend about her pregnancy. Raged in anger, Jini steals her co-worker's car at the bar and leaves her workplace. However blinded Taeseong gets hit by the car. When even Suhui gets hit, the three starts a fateful journey together. Each with awful problems, the lonely people coincidentally enter each other's life and starts to fill their empty hearts.

Director YOUN Taesik depicts the process as a trip to the sea.

Jini has never been to the sea. So has Suhui, who has an old ailing mother. Blinded Taeseong has never been to the sea neither. To them, the sea is the only destination. Everyone dreams of a place to hide when all problems of reality come rushing. The place seems even more dreamy where one has never been to. Because your imagination is all yours. To the three, the sea is a symbol of hope, a whole new wonderland where they've never been to.

However the reality is tough. Reality won't let go of the three people. For Suhui, who only started boxing because she had a crush on the handsome coach, her problem is not the World Champion Title but her huge, enormous body. She lost confidence and that's what hinders her from confessing. Taeseong suffers continuously from an unknown shock is on the verge of death and has to get a surgery within a few days. Jini can't even eat because of her morning sickness and her boyfriend is unreachable. Unsolved problems and scars make them give up on the trip many times.

Giving up does not solve the problem. Their problems never seem to change.

However one thing has definitely changed. They are not alone anymore. Suhui protects Jini from her boyfriend who slaps and abuses her. Taeseong says he envies Suhui, who has been ugly for her whole life. Jini and Suhui saves Taeseong from the bullies. When they walk along the lonely dark tunnel of life they are not alone. They do not ask what the hell's wrong with your life. Instead, they hold their hands tight and shouts on the top of the world. Life returns the echo of comfort to them. You are not alone, don't be afraid.

The echo gives the three courage to face their problems. Suhui adorns herself with makeup and flowery dress and confesses her love to the coach. The result is not important. A brave challenge to fix one's problem is beautiful and precious. Life is solely yours, and the challenge is a evidence of youself trying to live a great one.

Director YOUN Taesik gazes on the three protagonist. He does not judge on their lives, although pathetic in some way. All he does is to show everyone how people of different characters, scars and sorrow, relies on one another on a trip to the sea. The three people, who do not look like friends at all, turns to perfect fellows in the trip. Audiences can't help but absorb themselves into Jini, Taeseong and Suhui's strange journey. Just like how black, black ink draws a beautiful line on the white paper.

-Filled with amazing scenes, Bada.
Director YOUN Taesik depicts the movie with his delicate sense of producing. The action scene where Suhui fights two burglars are only expressed by the movements of their feet, and the scene where Taeseong's big brother's trauma is depicted by an underwater silhouette show the talent of the director. The best scene, of course, is when the three finally arrives at the sea after all the troubles. It shows why they wanted to go there, with a magnificient scale. Director YOUN Taesik says that the sea was filmed with the help of the heaven's weather, of all the countless days of filming. The OSTs which can be heard along the journey are as amazing.

Life is a long interminable journey however the trip to the sea is much more happier with friends. Instead of going to my own sea, a sea shared together is happier. When someone holds your hands tired of life, when one meets another and two meets one, it is happy. Because the one is always there for you, life is the happiest.

The movie "BADA" is a laud to the cliche that together, you can go anywhere.

When the “Korean Ocean’s Eleven” was first announced a couple months ago, we knew we could expect a big-name cast, from the attachment of A-lister Lee Jung-jae (The Housemaid) and based on the pattern established by the Hollywood franchise. And yup, the project has now brought onboard a whole slew of famous faces, starting with Jeon Ji-hyun (Snow Flower and the Secret Fan), who re-teams with Lee after first starring with him in the lovely romantic film Il Mare back in 2000.

The movie is titled Thieves and centers around a heist in a Macau casino; the prize is a multimillion-dollar diamond called “The Sun’s Tear.” Heading the “once-in-a-lifetime cast” is Lee Jung-jae playing the mastermind, with Jeon playing a loud-mouthed, curse-up-a-storm type of thief (my kinda girl!) who specializes in jewelry and art. Then there’s Korea’s veteran glamourpuss Kim Hye-soo (Home Sweet Home, Tazza) playing a familiar role, the femme fatale, though this one also is a master safecracker.

“National actor” Kim Yoon-seok (The Chaser, Jeon Woo Chi) also stars, as well as other famous veterans like Oh Dal-soo (The Fixer, Bang-ja Chronicle) and “Korea’s Mom” Kim Hae-sook (Life Is Beautiful, Thirst).

Thieves is helmed by a man who knows how to mix crime, action, and comedy; Choi Dong-hoon directed Tazza, The Big Swindle, and Jeon Woo Chi. It’ll begin shooting in May.

U-Kiss’s Dongho has been absent from the scene these days, and it’s mainly because he has been working hard as an actor.

Dongho is starring in the upcoming movie, “Villain & Widow (Villain on the Second Floor)“. This is his first acting role, and in it, he plays a good-looking middle school student.

The movie is about a woman (played by Kim Hye Soo) and her daughter, Jiwoo, who lives in a house with an empty second floor. A man with many secrets (played by Han Suk Gyu) moves into the house and the story captures what happens afterwards.

Dongho plays a boy that Jiwoo is crushing on. It’s been said that Kim Hye Soo thought Dongho would fit the character well.

Dongho said, “I’m really nervous since it’s my first time acting. It’s an honor to be working with sunbaes I look up to. I want to become a great actor later on and act with them again.”

The movie premieres on November 25th.

Won Bin‘s latest project, thriller-action movie Ajusshi (English title: The Man From Nowhere) released last Wednesday and looks poised to become a success. In its first week it beat out Inception (and also Salt, Toy Story 3) to take #1 at the box office with 1 million admittances.

Its first day (Wednesday) recorded 130,000 admittances, and the movie had solid word-of-mouth going for it all weekend, with sold-out screenings in many theaters. The movie centers around a secretive loner (Won Bin) who is drawn out of his reclusiveness when his next-door neighbor, a young girl, is kidnapped by gangsters.

It’s hard to believe that this is actually Won Bin’s first lead film role, but it’s true. (Even in movies where he played a pivotal role, such as Taegukgi and Mother, he was a supporting character, not the lead.)

One year after her last film project Rabbit and Lizard, Sung Yuri is taking the lead in another movie, Noona (or Older Sister).

She plays an older sister in a parentless family and works in a school cafeteria. Her character is tough and lives a hard life; she is burdened by the weight of enduring, and hope is difficult to find in her miserable life. She’s also a sufferer of domestic violence, and the film will include scenes of her being beaten around. As such, this role will require Sung to delve deep and show strong character acting.

Sung said, “People strongly advised me to take a bright, popular drama, but I’ll return to popular projects after I’ve shown a new side to my acting in this one.” She explained wanting to try a character she hadn’t portrayed before, and despite some worries of her people, she decided on this project because she didn’t want to only consider the project’s commercial success.

Noona begins filming on August 30, and afterward Sung plans to return to dramas sometime early next year.

In a dark school ally, a trembling girl clings to the shirt of a figure she believes will offer her help, only to have her faint hope crushed with a cold (and bloody) response.

This is the same girl who just a day before smiled triumphantly after becoming the class valedictorian and gaining entry to her high school’s prestigious summer program.

The girl only wanted to raise her scores on Korea’s College Scholastic Aptitude Test (CSAT). Needless to say, however, the program becomes her worst nightmare.

In real life, the unlucky victim is Choi Ah-jin, a budding actress whose appearance in this film will likely boost her stardom. The film is the recently-released “Death Bell 2: Bloody Camp,” directed by Yu Seun-dong.

Unfortunately, Choi’s solid performance as the typical “mean girl” overshadows the performance of Park Ji-yeon, who plays the lead character Se-hee. Despite her charming looks and decent acting, Park appears more as eye-candy for her legion of fans than as a character who moves us to tears. Rising star Yoon Si-yoon’s celeb-worthy charisma also brightens the screen, but his spotlight moment in which his character Kwan-woo throws a lighter in slow motion disrupts the flow of the movie. In the role of the teacher Mr. Cha, veteran actor Kim Su-ro adds some much-needed weight to the film, but is killed early on. Similarly, Hwang Jung-eum, another top celebrity, is killed off in one blow. And yet, had the movie followed a single well-crafted story line, rather than attempt to show each character’s history in speedy flashbacks, it might have had more to offer than just pretty faces.

Given the success and potential of the previous “Death Bell” film from 2008, directed by Yoon Hong-seung, it is safe to say that “Death Bell 2: Bloody Camp” will ride the tide of the previous film.

But it should have taken more chances and offered audiences more than blood. Although director Yu worked to improve the murder scenes - using devices such as a metal-spiked motorcycle, a boiler room that becomes a death trap and drugs - the film won’t do much for viewers who are die-hard slasher film fans.

According to a viewer named Chang who saw the film on opening day, the film stood “somewhere between the ‘Saw’ series and other Korean creep-fests.”

Still, the sequel is missing the psychological pressures of midterm exams that made the previous film so thrilling. In that film, the audience shares the stress and guilt of the characters, who witness a classmate die each time they fail to solve a given problem in a certain number of minutes. In this way, test-taking became a matter of life and death.

That exaggeration of the high-pressure education system in Korea distinguished the first “Death Bell” film from other school-related horror flicks. In the sequel, however, the issue of Korea’s education fever only gets a mention in the first five minutes and is then discarded. The head teacher batters kids with instructions to sleep less and study more, but shortly thereafter he disappears, taking with him the weight of reality. The students, meanwhile, are left behind to “play” the killer’s game.

If another “Death Bell” is to toll, the makers of the film series will need to be more creative. The movie does deserve some credit for its novel use of a swimming pool and frank exploration of teenagers’ sexual curiosity, but the rest of the conventional plot kills the freshness of these scenes. The beginning is like deja vu: a gruesome corpse thuds on the library floor and a disembodied voice follows: “The exam has now begun. One by one, you will die!”

To make the audience shake with metric tons of unchecked terror, new elements of surprise are needed.

The director of part three, if there is one, should take the advice of another viewer who saw the film on opening day and said she was more scared by the character who walks around the school stalking a crush than by the killer.

I can only hope the series’ creators will make us shudder if and when the school bell rings again.

Hollywood Star Sylvester Stallone has expressed his regret in a recent interview recently of not being able to cast RAIN in his latest flick. The joy of rediscovering actors is great. Especially on-screen this first half of the year, there are actors who gave us the pleasure of new discovery to the point where one could add on the thought of, ‘There was this side to him too,’ to what one already knew.

Member of the group Big Bang, TOP went beyond being an idol star and beyond being a home theater star and made a successful debut on the big screen.

Idol stars who make the transformation into actors have the benefit of at least some degree of fixed adoration from their fans, but movies are harder than dramas. More than simple stardom is needed to appeal to the audience who paid money to come.

Through the genre of war movie, not drama or action, TOP received attention by bravely throwing away his star image and transforming into a war-scarred boy, weak and yet still tough. He was able to express the fear and the weight of war felt by a seventeen-year-old boy thrown into a huge war.

If the charisma of his character from ‘IRIS’ is what you thought of until now when you thought of TOP as an actor, then you could say that he found his potential that’s like blank drawing paper through Into the Gunfire. He could be the idol star actor we can expect the most from.

Cha Seung Won and Kim Seung Woo of the movie Into the Gunfire predict the birth of luxury actor/idol (= TOP) and is the hot topic.

Pulling in over 2 million viewers, becoming the pride of South Korean film with its release in 14 major North American cities, and in the midst of Into the Gunfire’s Choi Seung Hyun’s (T.O.P) remarkable acting ability becoming the talk of the town, the hot topic to date comes from his seniors, who had the first look at his potential that exceeds all expectation.

Kim Seung Woo, whose role was that of a mentor and father-figure to the student soldiers, revealed that, “I was the first to predict Choi Seung Hyun’s potential.” It is said that during the five months they spent in a small town called Hap Cheon, Choi Seung Hyun was able to find the face of Jang Bum in the movie through each expression, one by one. He said, “Choi Seung Hyun doesn’t have a lot of experience with acting, but looking at his expressions you really get the feeling of a boy in a war.”

The audience, who came to see the film with the same feeling as Kim Seung Woo, is sending tribute to Choi Seung Hyun whose acting practically melted through the screen.

Though enemies on screen, off-camera Cha Seung Won cared for Choi Seung Hyun more than anyone, and he revealed more of Choi Seung Hyun’s acting potential. “His ability to engage in the acting was remarkable. I was often surprised because of his intense greed when it came to acting,” he said, and had supported his passion as an actor. His surprising ability that his seniors had already anticipated is spreading like wildfire by word-of-mouth throughout the entire nation.

A war movie based on a true story, Into the Gunfire illustrates the sad and great battle of 71 student soldiers who ran into the line of fire wearing their school uniforms to protect the Nakdong River frontier on which the fate of the Korean War laid, and is currently playing in theaters everywhere.

Ousted 2PM leader Park Jae-beom is still making headlines a year after an incendiary Internet controversy. Now, nine months following his unexpected flight to the United States and fall-out with JYP Entertainment, he's back in the news - but this time, fans are all ears.

Park recently gave Yonhap News Agency his first media interview since the incident, at a Gangnam recording studio.

"I'm glad to be in Korea. I really wanted to come," said the 23-year-old who, according to Yonhap, appeared uncharacteristically thin and pale. He returned to Korea last month to begin filming for the upcoming "Hype Nation."

"I spent my time in the United States b-boying. I was really thankful that a lot of fans came out to meet when I arrived at the airport,"
Park said, referring to the roughly 1,000 followers that showed up to greet him. "Uploading videos onto YouTube of me singing and dancing during my stay here has been on behalf of my fans."

"Hype Nation" follows the story of American and South Korean b-boy teams competing in a dance competition. Park will play the leader of his real-life b-boy crew Art of Movement.

"I'm practicing my script in Korean and English, but the Korean dialog is easier to memorize," Park admitted. "This morning I practiced dancing with Jang Kyung-ho (leader of the b-boy team Gambler) for four hours while doing a script read through ... Since I'm a b-boy anyway it isn't that hard, but since this is my first time acting it's taking a lot of hard work."

Last month Park, along with hip-hop group B2K, the local all-girl RaNia crew and AOM, shot for four straight days to capture one of the movie's most climactic scenes.

Busy as he is, Park recently signed on with the U.S. company Digital Media Wire (DMW) to manage his affairs.
He said that he hasn't yet thought about signing with a Korean entertainment agency.

The former idol's singing career has also yet to stall.
He recently worked with hip-hop artist B.o.B., lending his smooth vocals to the special edition of the hit single "Nothing On You."

"It was a great opportunity and very much an honor for me," Park said about the collaboration. Additionally, he has already recorded four songs for the film's original soundtrack.

R&B/hip-hop producer Terry Riley has announced that if the song "Demon" is included in the film, it will be released as the first single in both the U.S. and Korea. For the other songs, Jae-beom worked with such names as Snoop Dogg, T-Pain and even Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

A public relations official noted that if more songs are released in the U.S., it could pave the way for an official album debut for the Korean singer.

When asked by Yonhap if it was difficult abandoning his fans when he left 2PM, Park simply gave a bashful, nervous laugh, choosing instead to save his words.
