In 2011, the intense competition between the girl groups who made their debut this year became one of the conversation topics.Among the idols who made their debut stage this year, rookie boy groups also had their breathtaking battles to stand out from the rest, just like the girl groups. The group B1A4 is a quintet group consisting of Jinyoung, CNU, Sandeul, Baro and Gongchan, who made their debut on April with their debut song “O.K” and is known as “Sprout-dol” group.
▶ Charming points: Manliness being the general trend of boygroups, B1A4, however, emerged with their cute looks and pure image causing a brand new trend.
Adding to the above, among the latest boy groups it’s a trend to have perfectly syncing choreographs, however, the boys performed special witty performances during their stages like play-off baseball performance and Korean traditional style hide and seek showing their playfulness on stage.
In September they released their mini album’s title track “Beautiful Target” and showed off their more upgraded and matured performances on stage which is quite exceptional to see from rookie group stages.
▶Career records: Jinyoung took part in composing for their debut mini album and second mini album tracks, “Bling Girl” and “Wonderful tonight”, showing off his talents and potentials which were worth including in their albums’ track list. Baro and CNU took part in rap making and composed the song ‘Beautiful Target’. Moreover, their main vocalist, Sandeul was the winner of many awards and grand prizes from Youth Singing Festivals.
▶Number of fans and Popularity: During “Idol Star Athletics Championship 2011”, Baro was known as the ‘Athletics-dol’ raising their popularity and their ‘Sprout Dance’ which was introduced in ‘MBC Quiz to Change the World’ became another hot topic.
They have almost 50,000 members in their fan cafe (as at November 22th). That’s the highest number of members compared to other groups who debuted this year. That’s not all, around 900 fans gathered to attend their comeback stage of ‘Beautiful Target’.
▶Overseas expansion: Despite being a rookie group, B1A4 has signed an exclusive contract with Pony Canyon which is one of the biggest media agencies in Japan and is also the agency of w-inds, Ueto Aya, Jang Geun Suk, Kim bum and many other celebrities.

The group Boyfriend is a sextet group consisting of Dong Hyun, Hyun Seong, Jeong Min, Min Woo, Kwang Min and Young Min who made their debut with their debut song ‘Boyfriend’and ascended as the new ‘Pet-dol’ group.
▶ Charming points : They emerged as the cute boygroup among their manly senior boygroups and immediately grabbed many’s attention, however, they returned with a brand new concept for their 2nd single album ‘Don’t Touch My Girl’ catching the eyes of many noona fans. The six cute and young boys came back with ‘Don’t touch my girl!’ which sent out a strong message, making them look more grown up.
Especially, with their special group dance drawing attention as the next new “group dance-dol” like Infinite. With the bling-bling smiles of Boyfriend members, their group dance is more lively and fresh compared to the engergic and manly group dances of other groups which differentiates them from the rest.
