[NEWS] Celebrities prove they aren’t too cool for school

Ever wonder what it’d be like to go to school with a celebrity or to call your favorite idol star ‘sunbae (upperclassman)’?

Many idols these days are squeezing school into their busy schedules, and on the November 17 broadcast of tvN’s enews, the cameras followed a few students to the college campuses they are lucky enough to share with some of Korea’s most studious celebrities.

Despite the fact that he is a member of top idol group Big Bang and calls a three billion won mansion home, T.O.P proves he can still look get down with the 3,500 won (roughly $3.50) dining hall food at Dankook University, where he is currently enrolled in the theater and film program. Photos of the rapper at school have been floating around the Internet for quite some time now, and I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen anyone look so sharp eating out of a stone bowl in a sweater, button-up and specs.

One female student said of the rapper, “To be honest, his image as a celebrity is really strong, so I really looked up to him in the beginning. But he’s really kind, comes to class often and buys me a lot of delicious food.”

2PM member Taecyeon is also a student at Dankook University, where he’s studying business administration. Unlike T.O.P, however, Taecyeon prefers to look casual and has been spotted on campus in sweats, a staple item in any college student’s closet. And who’s got time to look good if you’re trying to make the grade anyway? The brainy Taecyeon ranked in the top five percent of his class when he attended high school in Boston.

“He studies really hard,” said one female classmate. “When he came in to take an exam, he sat in the back, and that was what amazed me the most (laughs).” Who says you can’t be star struck by one of your classmates?

Finally, actor Song Joong Gi is a business administration major at Sungkyunkwan University, who became known for his good looks as soon as he stepped foot on campus. Thus, it was game over when he joined the broadcast department, where, by then, rumor has it, Song’s popularity had risen to celebrity status.

Even idol stars understand the value of education, so kids, be cool and stay in school.
