[PROFILE]Yunho and Changmin debut as members of TVXQ in Korea in 2004, and realized their goal of debuting in Japan in their second year. All the members possess exceptional vocal and dance abilities and are able to perform a cappella, thus becoming very popular artistes. The five members halted their activities in 2009. This time, the two members have prepared for and released a single track, which is the OST for the drama serial “Beautiful Neighbour”, currently shown on Kansai TV and Fuji TV every Tuesday at 10.00pm.
An Update Regarding the Two Members’ SituationWhat did the two members go through exactly during this period of hiatus? From their work to their personal life, to their carrying out of activities again, we will now share the excerpts with everyone.
Leader Yunho’s and Youngest Changmin’s New Resolution!From January onwards, TVXQ, who halted their activities at the peak of the popularity, will re-emerge under the same name and begin their activities with the leader Yunho and the youngest member, Changmin.
Yunho : I’m extremely happy to be able to come back with Changmin under the name of TVXQ. Even though we have not been to Japan for a long time, but we are still able to maintain a calm and relaxed feeling.
Changmin : During my solo activities, while I was able to learn a lot of things, there were also numerous obstacles and challenges which I had to overcome on my own from the start till the end. Now that I’m with Yunho, we are able to depend on one another, and we are able to share the burdens and anxieties while doing what we have to do.
The first time the both of you appeared on stage as a TVXQ duo was during the SMT (SM Town) held in Seoul, in the summer of last year. To the both of you, that must have been a huge turning point.
Changmin : It was the first time I was so nervous since our debut.
Yunho : Me too! I was extremely nervous!!
Changmin : I kept drinking coffee before we went up on stage!! (laughs) Fans aside, the working crew was definitely thinking about what kind of stage the both of us would create, and with their expectations was probably some sort of unease as well.
Yunho : That was why we were so happy when we stood on stage and heard the cheering of the fans. That was the first time I felt Changmin danced so well.
Changmin : I’m really happy to be complimented by the perfect artiste, Yunho. (laughs)
Yunho : That was the one time which I saw him danced with all his heart; Changmin is good looking, and is capable in everything, he’s really great.
Changmin : No, no, no, I still have to put in more effort and learn from Yunho.
Yunho : This kid always torments me like this. (laughs)
When you began your activities all over again, you also decided to release the long-awaited track. The magnificent track was created out of a desire for the world to see TVXQ’s style and an anticipation towards the cool performers.
Yunho : During this period of hiatus, one had to grow naturally through the solo activities. As I am the leader, it has become a habit for me to consider seriously any issues regarding the members and the crew. Right now, it comes almost naturally. Right now, I would share my feelings and thoughts with Changmin, and when I see what he does, I would also want to do it as well.
Changmin : I think this is what we meant by relying on each other, but even as of now, the leader is Yunho. He has the leadership abilities, and he’s older than me. If I was the leader instead, it would definitely not work out. If I was the leader, everyone would be suffering from all the constant pressure that I give everyone.
Yunho : Changmin gives me pressure at times too, but I can’t say it out because I’m older. I only express it when there we have differences in opinions. That’s only recently, other than that, I still show a lot of concern for Changmin.
Changmin : Up till now, we’ve been giving out best every day and we don’t even have the time to look back and evaluate ourselves. The pessimistic side still exists, but after having been in a state of calmness for about a year or so, I’ve been able to monitor myself and discover my own potential so I’ve am earnestly more optimistic towards the future.
The both of you still live together in Korea.
Changmin : After we moved into a different apartment, we now live in separate rooms. My room is very spacious; there is a television complete with speakers. I can play PS3 so I’m very happy. I even bought a mini refrigerator.
Yunho : My room is very simple. I bought curtains to keep out the sunlight because it’s not easy to fall asleep. There is also a large closet.
Changmin : There’s none in my room…
Yunho : Because I won after the game of scissors, paper and stone.
Changmin : But I’m contented with how things are now.
Yunho : My room is less spacious. (laughs)
Changmin : Even though we live together, we hardly had time to meet each other recently due to our personal schedules. There are a lot of activities, and the timings are different, so we have not set any rules about not messing up things and so forth.
Yunho : Like how we need to answer a call outside.
Changmin : Yunho has this habit of making calls while lying on his bed before he sleeps, so when we were sharing a room, it was very frustrating.
Yunho : But that is what I enjoy most after a day’s work, sorry, sorry. (laughs)
Lastly is what they wish to express.
Yunho : Overall, I’m just very happy and I’m filled with renewed hope, now that I’m able to hold on tightly to my dreams.
Changmin : Please watch out for us as we create different styles and feels. I’ll also work hard in mastering Japanese.
“A” is a card that can be the strongest or weakest link. I feel that it is very attractive due to its ability to be multi-faceted.
Q : Up till today, when was the time which you felt most challenged?A : [Yunho] After we debut, when we appeared on Kōhaku Uta Gassen for the first time. In order to impress everyone who was watching TVXQ, we worked really hard and gave our best in our dance. Even though we were very nervous, we also felt very happy. To me personally, my dream was realized when Mirotic was produced.
[Changmin] To me personally, the most nerve-wrecking moment was when the both of us appeared on stage as TVXQ duo for the first time at SMT.
Q : Share with us some methods on how to overcome adversities!
A : [Yunho] Enjoy the process while you overcome, and never ever run away, because it doesn’t only bring me happiness, but also to those around me.
[Changmin] I’ll leave it to time while I give my best in overcoming these obstacles.
Q : Any strategy in the area of dating and love?
A : [Yunho] I’m not dating at the moment~
[Changmin] There is none because I’m not dating, this is something that requires two person to work together.
[Yunho] There’s no such thing as a strategy for love, you have to experience it for yourself! (laughs)
[Changmin] There will only be one person existing in your world, and falling in love is not that troublesome.
[Yunho] Changmin’s and my stand towards falling in love is very simple – it’s purely on instinct. That is why when Changmin is in love, I would know immediately even if he doesn’t say it.
[Changmin] I would know it as well. (laughs)
Q : Were there any challenges?
A : [Yunho] I’d rather use the word “goal”. For me, during the period of Mirotic, in order to believe in myself, I would hit myself on the chest.
[Changmin] He would hit to the extent that it hurts!!
[Yunho] That’s wrong, that’s wrong, I only hit myself two to three times (laughs)
[Changmin] I’m not that superstitious; to such matters, I’ve never given it much thought at all, even up till today. I’ve always believed in myself, and if I’m with Yunho, then there’s no problem.
[Yunho] Woah!!
[Changmin] The energy comes when the both of us are together.
[Yunho] I’m someone who’s very inquisitive!
Q : What are some things you want to challenge as artistes from here on?
A : [Yunho] I want to work hard in order to gain comments like “this is really expected of TVXQ” for as long as I can. Because of the numerous matters that took place, I wish to let everyone see our charisma after having grown through this period of time.
[Changmin] After becoming 2 from 5, there are a lot of things which the two of us must do, from photo shoots, to filming of PVs, amongst other matters. While we want to progress even more, we also wish to let everyone see the unexpected side of us.
Conversation Between The Two <>
To the both of you who will be battling to win, please tell us all sorts of interesting stories!
Q : Between the both of you, who has a stronger desire to win?
A : [Yunho] I do.
[Changmin] I don’t have that strong a desire. If it’s something which I’m not interested in, it doesn’t matter if I lose. I would still feel good no matter what. (laughs)
[Yunho] For me, it’s not for the results. Whether I am able or not, or whether I win or lose, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I gave my all while doing it.
Q : Tell us the secret to fulfilling our dreams!
A : [Yunho] Believe in yourself. Even if the journey is tough, there will be a day when you will realize your dreams. I feel that even if there are times when you wish to give up, you must continue to stand and not run away. This way, you will get closer and closer to your dreams.
[Changmin] (claps while keeping silent) I’ve a lot of areas in which I have to learn from Yunho.
[Yunho] (burst out in laughter) Well said!
Q : He simply cannot lose in this matter! What are such examples?
A : [Yunho] The soccer game “Winning Eleven”. Changmin always wins.
[Changmin] How many books have you read till now?
[Yunho] The both of us like to read books, but who has read more? Just to mention, I’m now reading a book titled “Secret”.
[Changmin] You’ve obviously just flipped through it casually!
Q : How do you help to improve the other person’s weaknesses?
A : [Yunho] Under a very natural atmosphere without saying a word. It’s very important to read a person’s body language before you try to help. The both of us can never quarrel. We’ve lived together for a long time now, so we’d understand each other after our activities even without spending a lot of think to think or consider.
[Changmin] Yunho is the perfect leader!
[Yunho] OH NO~ (Laughs) Not perfect!
Q : Whose luck is better?
A : [Yunho] I don’t believe in luck; we only get what we want through hard work. No luck was involved when TVXQ first debut, it was based on endless hard work before the luck came. We truly felt it when we appeared on stage. There was almost no time for rehearsal, but when they saw me alone, practicing hard, they gave us ample time for a rehearsal.
Yunho’s & Changmin’s Battle To Win At The Photo Shoot!
In between the interview and the photo shoot, the both of them quietly began a competition. Let us find out how it went!
1. Why did Yunho choose Ace of Spades? “My father used to tell me before that this is card that is the strongest and the weakest, and I still like it most up till today, so I chose it without hesitation.”3. It was expected of Changmin, who is an expert in both Black Talk and in making jokes, to choose this card! “It’s not because of this reason, isn’t this trump card very useful? I like this domineering feeling.”
7. “The leader is definitely going to win!”
8. The two of them beginning to use the poker cards to play the card. Changmin watched strictly as a very nervous Yunho shuffled the cards. Changmin’s high morale broke out from time to time. The results of the competition was…three to two – Changmin won!
9. Full house! “Yay! I won!”

14. The both of them started to play again after having discovered the international chessboard which was used as a prop in the photo shoot. To the both of them who are very familiar with the rules of the games, they had a great time even though it was in the midst of the photo shoot. From time to time, the photographer would remind them to look into the camera as they continued their battle on the chessboard. Indeed, Changmin emerged victorious again! Yunho’s smile was eventually mixed with a look of chagrin.
