[News] Unauthorized Remake of JYJ’s Jaejoong Composed Song by Chinese Artist

T/N: The reporter of this article was not aware that the Chinese artist in question, Zhuo Qi Bo, might not actually be an official AVEX artist. Please take any mention of Qi Bo being part of the AVEX family lightly, as we do not know the full case so far.

Kim Jaejoong, a member of the group JYJ, is involved in the controversy of the year over an unauthorized remake of his self-composed song that has been made by a Chinese singer.

Zhuo Qi Bo (Ray Cho), a member of AVEX group China, relased two songs, one of which fans found the chorus to be strikingly similar to Kim Jaejoong’s composed song, TVXQ’s “Wasurenaide”. Fans complained that the remake was created by Zhuo Qui Bo without discussion or permission from Kim Jaejoong’s side, which prompted a quick apology and explanation from Qi Bo.

Zhou Qi Bo wrote in an entry on weibo “Regarding the unhappiness of fans over the remake of Kim Jaejoong’s self-composed Japanese song “Wasurenaide”, I want to greatly apologize. I know for many of you this song carries precious stories and memories, and I believe I can join you in that thought, because I am also a fan of Kim Jaejoong and his talents. He is not only my idol, but also my role model, so therefore I will carefully handle all matters for this song “Redundant” and will try to form a consensus”.

However, the fans continued to ask AVEX for an apology over the matter. Chinese JYJ fans have been searching for proper credit of copyright and composition rights over this matter. Fans have even created a signature campaign, entitled “Protect Jaejoong’s Right to Wasurenaide”.

In response to this situation, Kim Jaejoong wrote a tweet in Japanese stating “Wasurenaide is not mine, nor any singular person’s song. It is a song that belongs to the 5 members of TVXQ, therefore I do not want only one or three people to sing it”.

“Is there any deal to be made in the future?” is the question OSEN (the reporting company who wrote this article) has to ask. “It seems as though in China remakes without prior approval happen quite often”. However, for now, no legal action has been taken in this matter.
