[News] FT Island files lawsuit against a cosmetic company
FT Island and its management agency, FNC Entertainment, filed a lawsuit against cosmetic company, Baviphat. According to FNC Entertainment, “FT Island has filed a claim for damages from Dereon Cosmetics at the Seoul Central District Court on February 24.”
The suit came from using the images of FT Island in cosmetic advertisements beyond the contract period. FT Island signed a contract with Baviphat in April to endorse the brand for a fixed period of 6 months in Korea. But according to the claims, Baviphat used the images of FT Island beyond the scope of the contract. Baviphat had even used them for advertising in Malaysia, Japan and other Asian countries, which was not part of the agreement.
FNC Entertainment has sued Baviphat for a total of $177,000 ($35,000 per member). “Now that the Hallyu is creating waves across the globe, there are a lot of these instances where corporations violate copyrights and portrait rights,” they said.
Meanwhile, FT Island is currently promoting their fourth mini-album “Grown Up,” featuring the title track “Severely.”
