[News] Wonder Girls 2 hours late, thousands of excited fans at the mall

[Direct from Beijing.] Korean girl group WONDERGIRLS of 'Nobody' fame in Asia was in the mainland recently to promote a new album. Because the quintet is so popular, the scheduled venue attracted a great many fans who flocked there. Their appearance in Beijing yesterday caused impenetrable crowds at the scene. The police threatened to order an early end to proceedings, causing WG to hurriedly apologize when they turned up.

Popular Korean girl group WONDERGIRLS of 'Nobody' fame in Asia had successfully cracked the mainland market. They even launched a Chinese edition. Even Kenny Bee's [HK singer] daughter Eloise is addicted & can sing 'Nobody', which shows how deeply the song has penetrated the hearts of the masses.

Recently, WG had begun a series of 2 Different Tears' promotions in Asia. Yesterday, they were at Beijing Xidan Joy Mall to meet the fans. Their ultra-popularity attracted thousands of fans to the venue since morning. The four-storey building was filled with impenetrable crowds, startling even the police on security detail. The latter warned that there would be an early end to proceedings if the spectacle got out of hand. Only then did the fans reined in their enthusiasm somewhat.

Advance notice of year-end concert

WG encountered traffic problems en route to the event venue. They arrived late by almost 2 hours. The fans were boisterous; there were many more of them by then too. WG appeared to a frenzied reception from the entire audience. Remarkably, WG apologized in Chinese, which had the fans shrieking incessantly. WG then performed 'Nobody' Chinese version, & praised the mainland fans for their enthusiasm & support. Group leader Sunye: "There are plans to hold a concert at year's end, hopefully everybody can show support."

WG accepted '5 sacred grains' (symbolizing bumper harvest) greeting gifts from the fans. They divulged that every WG album launch is different. Some would have film clips, while others were musical performances. But what made them happiest was frequent contact with the fans.

In addition, WG was in Changsha yesterday for the filming of the 'Happy Camp' TV show. They performed 'Nobody' & even admitted that they had erroneously sung the Korean version in English instead while in Malaysia. The TV hosts had tested them by requesting an impromptu Sino-Anglo-Korean rendition. Yeeun also sang the Mandarin song 'Sadly, It's Not You' on the show, her accurate word pronunciation drawing applause from the audience. During the filming, Sohee abruptly turned her back to the camera to straighten her attire, which was rather rude.

Apple Daily also uploaded a video (3gp format, 3.27mb, wholescreen, voiceover in Cantonese).
